This is a port of the set6x86/get6x86 1.2 program for Linux and DOS done by
Koen Gadeyne. I've changed some of the option flags to get around the
differences between the Linux/gcc and OS/2/gcc/emx implementations of the
getopt function.
This program will allow you to set some of the special registers in the Cyrix
6x86 (and possibly 5x86). Most important is the power-saving feature that
will power down the CPU from its whopping 24W normal state to a 0.3W state
when OS/2 issues a halt instruction. You'll be able to hear the CPU
power-down when idle--there is much less strain on the power supply.
There is no performance penalty associated with the power-down feature.
The file set6x86.zip has been uploaded in the incoming directories of HOBBES,
Walnut Creek, and Leo. The expected placement locations are:
