At the end of last year, with the release of the first OS/2 application with
60 Hz real-time audio/video synchronization, Flight for OS/2, problems were
discovered in certain audio device drivers that could not keep up with the
high data rate and small audio buffer required by Flight/2; even though they
worked fine with most other DART applications, including Dual Module Player
and the Digital Sound & Music Interface Navigator for OS/2 plug-in.
Known affected drivers are :
- Media Vision Pro Audio series, including Spectrum / + / 16 / Studio
- All ESS soundcards
IBM, which authored the drivers, was made aware of the problems and just
released updates, which will appear shortly in the OS/2 Device Driver Pak, but
are already available on the Flight/2 page at :
http://www.polsci.wvu.edu/Madbrain/software.html#flight
I recommend all OS/2 users watch the Flight demo to discover the real
multimedia potential of Warp.
