Phoenix OS/2 Society General Meeting, Tuesday February 11

Because OS/2 Warp includes an Internet access kit, just about every member of
the Phoenix OS/2 Society is online. Many of us are starting to dabble with our
own home pages -- or, sometimes, we create Web sites for work. But learning
HTML is like learning any other language: it takes time and effort, which are
often in short supply.

At the February general meeting of the Phoenix OS/2 Society, Tuesday February
11, Panacea Software will show the company's successful application, HTML
Studio. Bill Young is coming in from Lakenheath England to show us what HTML
Studio can do, and to give a sneak preview of other Internet-related software
Panacea has in development.

Panacea

Panacea Software began in June 1996. Since then they have developed and begun
to market HTML Studio (through shareware) and have recently begun work on
ProNews/2 -- about which we'll learn more at the meeting.

Panacea Software is a company made possible by the Internet: their software
has been developed by three people who live in different countries! The
developers use all-OS/2 software, in conjunction with the Internet, to
collaborate efforts. Dealing with time zone changes can sometimes be a boon;
when it's time for Bill Young to go to bed, his partner is ready to go to
work.

HTML Studio's features

HTML Studio is a text based HTML editor, letting you work with HTML (which
tells your Web browser how a page should look). Because it's text-based, it
has a slightly steeper learning curve than a graphically based one, but
Panacea claims that gives you more control and flexibility.

HTML Studio includes:
 - A built-in preview using Web Explorer's libraries.
 - Seamless preview with Netscape for OS/2.
 - The ability to edit more than one document at a time.
 - FTP support: documents can be uploaded and downloaded from the FTP server.
 - A drag and drop interface, allowing rapid development.
 - A configurable toolbar
 - External program support
 - Complete online documentation
 - Support for the nearly-complete HTML 3.2 specification
 - Speed keys for expert users

There's more, of course: from editing tools to color support to thumbnail
previews. But you'll have to attend the meeting to learn more!

(If you really can't make it to the meeting, you might want to check out
Panacea's Web site at www.program.com/panacea)

When & where

The February meeting will be held at our usual time and place, from 7:00PM to
9:00PM on Tuesday, February 11th, at the Mountain Preserve Reception Center
(1431 East Dunlap). At 6:30PM, we have a half hour of "random access" during
which you're invited to engage in general Q&A with other OS/2 users. We look
forward to seeing you there!
