Corel has announced availability of their Corel Office for Java, a
comprehensive suite of business applications including the QuattroPro
spreadsheet, WordPerfect wordprocessor, and a personal information organizer
with electronic mail. Printing and file saving/loading is supported when
Office for Java is run as a trusted Java application (on an intranet or on
individual computers and devices).
Corel Office for Java runs on all Java Version 1.02 (or later) platforms and
devices, including IBM OS/2 Warp Version 4 (or Version 3 with added Java
support) and the IBM Network Computer. Office for Java also works with all
popular Internet browsers, including Netscape Navigator. U.S. list price is
$79.95. A trial version of Corel Office for Java is available for download
from Corel's Web page on the Internet at http://www.corel.com.
Corel Office for Java embraces the world of network computing and open
applications. The entire office suite, with comprehensive function, is
contained in a file less than 2.5 MB in size, demonstrating the enormous
performance advantages of Java and network computing. (The latest office
suite is nearly 100 times as large, making installation and maintenance on a
network slow and expensive for most companies.) Corel's suite can be
delivered across a network quickly and easily and is well suited to emerging
corporate intranets. Documents can be exchanged with any Java device and
platform, and popular printers are supported.
