Changi is an NNTP server running on OS/2 2.0 and above. It's
distributed as set of programs which enable you to read and write
newsgroup articles using any popular NNTP newsreader on a single
machine, on a local TCP/IP network or through the global Internet.
It's popularly used as an offline newsreader for standalone
computers.

The design of this software is mainly oriented towards

offering a complete, fast, flexible and cost effective news
   system.

   using platform-independent standards.

In particular:

   1. Very fast operation even on low cost hardware. Changi is able to receive
more than half a Gigabyte of news per day on a 486DX2/100.

   2. Supports the entire NNTP protocol standard plus most of the commonly
used extensions like XOVER, XHDR, XPAT, XROVER and XGTITLE.

   3. Extremely fast and very flexible news expiration including 'Expire:'
      header support.

   4. Specially designed to operate 24 hours a day. Incoming articles are
accepted and queued even during critical internal operations like
      history rebuilding.

   5. Open design. Article storage, overview database and history file layouts
follow well accepted *NIX implementations and will easily interface to
      existing and coming news software.

   6. No cryptic binary or platform-dependent configuration files.

   7. Three different modes of news exchange:

      a) Online via pushfeed (Operates with INN, nntpd and other
         popular news software).

      b) Offline, using the included passive client, which supports
         filtering.

      c) Via third party software like UUPC/extended, which supports
very efficient news exchange via compressed batches.

   8. Uses cross-platform syslog daemon for logging.

   9. Supports standard, platform-independent user authentication.

  10. Configurable host and user based access permission (read, write and
      feeding) to any newsgroup.

  11. More than hundred configuration options to meet user specific needs, but
      easy basic installation within minutes.

  12. Controllable from remote hosts.

The program is supported through a mailing list. Send mail to

   listserv@gigo.com

Have fun.
