November 1, 1996 -- Pinnacle Technology, Inc. announces the Beta Program for
Desktop Observatory v5, the next generation in OS/2 desktop management and
security. New features include:
* SES Interface - Desktop Observatory v5 takes advantage of IBM's Security
Enabling Services (SES) which provides file level security for OS/2 machines.
IBM is relying on third-party products to interface with this functionality as
they are not developing an interface of their own. SES is available for Warp 3
and is shipped as an installable option in Warp 4.
* Single Interface - Pinnacle has combined the interface for client machine
security characteristics and user rights administration into a single
interface. Administrators can define and distribute security easier than ever!
* Drag and Drop Configuration - The new single interface gives the user the
ability to configure desktops and security restrictions for individuals,
departments or groups by simply dragging and dropping objects from one side of
the interface to the other.
* New file Size and speed! Pinnacle has reduced the size of its security files
(stored centrally on any NOS) by an average of 90%! In addition, numerous
performance improvements have been made. Desktop Observatory V5 is more
optimized than ever for large, mission critical networks!
* Roving User Restriction - Security restrictions can be applied based upon
not only who is logging on, but also where they are logging on. Previous
versions applied restrictions based solely upon who was logging on. This means
that a user can have wide access on their own machine but have limited access
on more secure machines.
* Single Sign-on option! Desktop Observatory V5 works with Secure
Gen-Ticket, Pinnacle's unique single sign-on solution that works with ANY
intelligent workstation!
Desktop Observatory v5 is available at no extra additional charge to customers
who have purchased Desktop Observatory v4.0X and a service agreement. The
service agreement also covers future products on other platforms as they
become available.
The Beta Program will begin November 5th. Those interested in participating
should go to Pinnacle Technology's web page
