CHINESE MINISTRY OF ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY ENDORSES OS/2 WARP
The Ministry of Electronics Industry of the People's Republic of China
and IBM have agreed to use the OS/2 Warp software platform, in
conjunction with Lotus Notes groupware, in their effort to establish
specifications for Chinese computing platform standards.
Under this agreement, the Ministry agrees to endorse OS/2 Warp as a
preferred product and recommend it to users. Meanwhile the Special
Committee on Chinese Computing Platform will invite IBM and Lotus to act
as correspondent members. The Special Committee will recommend
character fonts, character style and input methods which are consistent
with Chinese standards, to expedite the standardization of OS/2 Warp and
Lotus Notes.
This is the first time that the Ministry has officially endorsed a
specific product for computer users. It is also the first time that the
Ministry has invited a foreign company to join the Special Committee on
China's Computing Platform.
