political, economic -- could not properly be rendered for 50 years or
more.Other aspects of Bush's presidency also loom large, such as the enactment
of across-the-board tax cuts, the expansion of Medicare to include prescription
drug coverage, the No Child Left Behind education reforms and a massive
push to fight AIDS in Africa. A financial collapse also struck at
the end of Bush's tenure, though some trace its origins to the
enactment of deregulatory housing policies in the Clinton era.A Washington
Post/ABC News poll found majorities still disapproving of Bushs handling
of Iraq and the economy, but history offers some hope for Bush
that his standing may rise further. The fact is it's very difficult to
get an accurate assessment of an American presidency, certainly while it's
going on, but even four or five years after it's ended, Knott
said. It took at least 20 years before Truman began to creep
up on those lists of presidential greatness.Fox News Poll: Bush's Favorable

been buying Treasury bonds since the fall. That has helped to lower
the yield. And in recent weeks, concerns that the U.S. and global
economies are slowing have led investors to shift money into safer assets,
like Treasurys, and away from stocks. Greater demand for Treasurys raises
their price and lowers their yield. The yield was 1.72 percent at midday
Thursday, up from 1.69 percent last week but still at a historically
low level. To calculate average mortgage rates, Freddie Mac surveys lenders

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">Editor's note: Watch former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino's interview
with former President George W. Bush Thursday on "The Five" at 5
pm ET.The George W. Bush Library and Museum opens this week in
Dallas and many already have written about our 43rd president and his
legacy. As commentators and historians hash over the big decisions, successes
and mistakes over those eight years, heres my personal take on what
President Bush means to me.On election night 2000, I had never met
then-Governor Bush, though Id supported him for years. I believed he would
be a strong, optimistic and gracious president with solid conservative principles
and a big heart. When I got a call to volunteer on the
campaign in early 2000, I had to turn it down due to
a new job and a new life we were trying to start
in San Diego. When I hung up the phone, I cried, Now
Ill never get to work for George Bush. Then the 9/11 attacks
changed everything for everyone. I moved back to D.C. and worked for
the Bush administration from the fall of 2001 until the last day
on January 20, 2009. Over those years, President Bush became a friend
and a leader who made me strive to be a better person
and citizen. Here are some of my favorite memories: One night when I
first took the deputy press secretary job, I went with him on
Marine One to an event in rural Virginia for the Boy Scouts
Jamboree. Weather had kept us from going for two days, but on
the third night, we made it
he says he never wanted to hear
someone say, "Oh, THAT'S why he wrestles."In fact, though more gay and
lesbian athletes are coming out in college, gay male professional athletes
in major sports have waited to do so until they have left
their sport, one of the more recent being Robbie Rogers, an American
soccer player who played professionally in England. There have been reports
that gay male athletes who are currently playing may be on the
verge of going public. But women have already done so with little backlash.U.S.
soccer star Megan Rapinoe, for instance, came out right before she played
in last year's Olympics. WNBA star Seimone Augustus and the league's No.
1 draft pick, Brittney Griner, are some of the more recent female
athletes to follow suit.In Hollywood in recent years, both openly gay men
and lesbians have had successful careers. And when it comes to television
and movies, it appears there are more high-profile gay male characters.Still,
while many see the two dads on the "Modern Family" sitcom as
groundbreaking, others have a sense that the societal discomfort with gay
men as parents is at the root of many of the jokes."A
good portion of that is for comedic effect," says Don Todd, a
32-year-old father in a two-dad family in Orange, Calif. He doesn't think
most people would think it was as funny if the characters were
two moms.Herek, the researcher at UC-Davis, has, in fact, found in surveys
that heterosexuals think lesbians
