out before another storm rolled in.
On the way home he insisted on sharing his peanut butter and
honey sandwiches with me and the chief-of-staff, Andy Card. The sun had
started setting as we left to return to the White House and
we talked just like friends do he asked me all about
my family, travels, pets and goals. I remember every moment of that
night including the orange and pink sunset that lasted the whole
flight. Another time he howled when I told him how my mom
had asked me about my first week at the White House, and
how Id told her all about how great it was and how
Karl Rove had been so nice and helpful to me, and how
he was just so smart and how happy I was to be
at the White House.when I broke to take a breath my mom
said, Who the hell is Karl Rove? Every week he held a
secure video conference either with Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki or Afghan
President Karzai, and I learned from his strong but gentle guidance of
them always respectful, firm, encouraging and non-condescending. I noted
that even behind closed doors, President Bush strongly, ably and graciously
defended America. He used to catch my eye during policy meetings and
tip me a wink with a little smile as we had noticed
when Vice President Cheney had been resting his eyes. Then wed share
a laugh realizing once again that it was clear the VP had
heard every word. President Bush treated my dad like the king of
England when he came for a state dinner as if his

ny pretenses. He takes the job seriously but he doesnt take himself
too seriously. Hes a good man.Obama injected contemporary politics into
the ceremony, when he claimed current efforts in Washington to pass immigration
reform are a continuation of Bush policies. "And even though comprehensive
immigration reform has taken a little longer than any of us expected,
I am hopeful that this year, with the help of Speaker Boehner,
and some of the senators and members of Congress who are here
today, that we bring it home for our families, our economy, our
security, and for this incredible country that we love," Obama said. "And
if we do that it will be in large part thanks to
the hard work of President George W. Bush."Former President Jimmy Carter
praised Bush for boosting humanitarian efforts in Africa, Bill Clinton recalled
private conversations with his successor and expressed hope that the candid
talks will never come to light and President George H.W. Bush spoke
briefly to warm applause."Dear God, I hope those conversations never come
to light," Clinton said of the private chats that took place during
Bush's sometimes tumultuous second term."I like President Bush," Clinton
added later, noting the two appear together often on the lecture circuit.
"He's disarmingly direct."Carter praised Bush for helping to fight AIDS
in Africa and also bringing peace to troubled regions there,. He recalled
talking to Bush shortly after his election and hold

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">April 23, 2013: Authorities say a Baltimore gang member ran a corruption
ring from behind bars. Tavon White, who was named in the indictment,
allegedly impregnated four prison guardsMyFoxDC.comA Maryland gang member
is accused of running a scheme to smuggle contraband into prison by
"corrupting" 13 female prison guards from behind bars, four of whom he
impregnated.A federal indictment says Tavon White has been charged in the
plot to smuggle drugs, cell phones and other contraband into the Baltimore
jail and other corrections facilities, along with the prison guards, six
of his fellow inmates and five others with gang ties who allegedly
operated outside the jails. The indictment also says the ring involved sex
between the inmates and guards, which led to four of the officers
becoming pregnant by White, the leader of a jailhouse gang called the
Black Guerrilla Family.White is accused of "corrupting" the female officers
through personal and sexual relationships and other bribes and convincing
them to join his ring, Fox Baltimore reports.MyFoxDC.com reports the ring
became increasingly brazen and confident over time, with White quoted as
saying: "You understand me? This is my jail. I am dead serious,
I make every final call in this jail."White was being held at
the Baltimore City Detention Center awaiting trial on a charge of attempted
murder at the time. The gang members and the corrections officers have been
charged with conspiracy, drug po
Frustrated at being left out of an immigration overhaul, gay rights groups
are pushing to adjust a bipartisan Senate bill to include gay couples.
But Democrats are treading carefully, wary of adding another divisive issue
that could lose Republican support and jeopardize the entire bill. Both parties
want the bill to succeed. Merely getting to agreement on the basic
framework for the immigration overhaul, which would create a long and costly
path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million people in the U.S.
illegally, was no small feat for senators. And getting it through a
divided Congress is still far from a done deal.Even so, gay rights
groups, their lobbyists and grass-roots supporters are insisting the deal
shouldn't exclude bi-national, same-sex couples -- about 28,500 of them,
according to a 2011 study from the Williams Institute at UCLA Law.
They're ramping up a campaign to change the bill to allow gay
Americans to sponsor their partners for green cards, the same way straight
Americans can. Supporters trekked to the Capitol to make their case at
senators' offices on Wednesday."Opponents will be proposing amendments that,
if passed, could collapse this very fragile coalition that we've been able
to achieve," Sen. John McCain, an Arizona Republican, said last week at
the unveiling of the bill. He said the eight senators from both
parties who crafted the legislation are committed to voting against changes
that could kill it.For Dem
