immigrants. And most Americans will agree. Theres little appetite in either
party for mass deportations of long-term Hispanic illegal immigrants. Whatever
critics of the immigration plan offer in the Senate have to say,
even most of the staunchest opponents have given up on the idea
of a coast-to-coast crackdown. But when the discussion turns to those illegal
immigrants who are not part of the Hispanic majority or even the
substantial Asian minority, things get more difficult especially when those
illegal immigrants are from Muslim countries, especially those with ties
to Islamist militancy. It pleases the Emma Lazarus within the collective
American heart to offer refuge to the huddled masses yearning to be
free, especially when we think of those desperate to escape from the
horrors of places like Somalia, Yemen, Syria and, yes, Chechnya and Kazakhstan. But
when the troubles and terrorism of those countries follow the refugees,
many would be happy to see the Statue of Liberty narrow her
embrace just a bit.And thats when the bargain on offer in the
Senate loses some of its appeal.Whatever specifics are on offer in the
800+ pages of the Senate deal, the bargain at the heart of
the proposition is this: In exchange for conservatives agreeing to allow
most of the millions here illegally to attain legal status of some
kind, liberals are offering to increase protections against new border jumpers
and to crack down on those already here who re
day. It
estimates 133,000 children under age 5 died, with child death rates approaching
20 percent in some communities. That's 133,000 under-5 deaths out of an estimated
9.3 million people. That compares to 65,000 under-5 deaths in all other
industrial countries in the world, a combined population of 990 million,
according to Chris Hillbruner, a senior food security adviser at FEWS NET,
a famine warning agency. The Associated Press earlier reported Monday on
the overall findings of the report.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">An Idaho man charged with attempting to assassinate President Obama by shooting
at the White House practiced with his weapon for six months and
may have been upset about the country's marijuana policy, prosecutors said
in a newly filed court document.Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez is currently
awaiting trial for the 2011 shooting, which didn't injure anyone but left
more than five bullet marks on the executive mansion. Prosecutors filed
a 14-page court document Tuesday that adds additional detail about Ortega-Hernandez,
who allegedly shot at the White House the night of Nov. 11
while the president and first lady were away.Ortega-Hernandez has pleaded
not guilty to the attempted assassination charge and to other charges. In
the document, prosecutors said Ortega-Hernandez "expressed anger towards
the government regarding the continued criminalization of marijuana," which
they said he acknowledged smoking and claimed makes people more intelligent.Prosecutors
said they will offer evidence to show that Ortega-Hernandez's motive in
shooting at the White House "was to punish and kill the president,
who he believed was the head of a government that was oppressing
its citizens in various ways, such as by continuing to criminalize the
use of marijuana."Prosecutors also reiterated previously disclosed information
that Ortega-Hernandez repeatedly expressed contempt for Obama, whom he called
the antichrist.Ortega-Hernandez practiced firing the assault r
rowing costs as long as they first ask
for help from the eurozone's bailout fund. The purchases would lower borrowing
costs because they would drive up bond prices up and interest yields
down, since prices and yields move in opposite directions. Governments could
then take advantage of those lower yields when they sell bonds to
pay off old bonds that are coming due.The ECB has actually bought
no bonds under the offer. The mere fact that the offer exists,
however, affected the bond market and lowered borrowing costs for countries
such as Spain and Italy.CHEAP LOANS TO BANKS: The ECB made an
unlimited amount of cheap, three-year loans available to banks on two occasions.
In December 2011, 523 banks borrowed 489 billion euros ($608.17 billion)
and 800 banks borrowed 530 billion in a second operation in February
2012.The long duration of the loans gave banks security that they would
have the money they needed through 2015. It eliminated market fears
that one or more banks might collapse and thus made it easier
for banks to borrow money and function in support of the wider
economy. Some of the money is now being repaid by banks under a
provision that lets them give the money back after a year.EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE:
The ECB is allowing national central banks in troubled countries to make
emergency loans to banks that are not eligible to borrow from the
ECB's programs. That is because those banks don't have enough safe collateral
such as hig
