MEXICO CITY The Mexican government has lowered its forecast for the
nation's economic growth this year to 1.8 percent. That's down from the
3.1 percent gain it predicted earlier this year. The National Statistics
Institute says the country's GDP expanded only 1.5 percent in the second
quarter of 2013, compared to the same quarter of 2012.Compared to the
first quarter, GDP actually contracted 0.74 percent in the April-June period.
Growth for the first half of 2013 averaged 1 percent, due to
weakness in the mining and construction sectors. The Finance Department said
Tuesday that the fundamentals of Mexico's economy remain solid and that
growth should pick up.

our children are safe," Thurmond said at the news conference. "This was
a highly professional response on the ground by DeKalb County employees
assisted by law enforcement."Though the school has a system where visitors
must be buzzed in by staff, the gunman may have slipped inside
behind someone authorized to be there, Alexander said. The suspect, who
had no clear ties to the school, never got past the front
office, where he held one or two employees captive for a time,
the chief said. Hill, who had address listed about three miles from
the school, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, terroristic
threats and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. There was
no information on a possible court date.A woman in the office called
WSB-TV to say the gunman asked her to contact the Atlanta station
and police. WSB said during the call, shots were heard in the
background. Assignment editor Lacey Lecroy said she spoke with the woman
who said she was alone with the man and his gun was
visible."It didn't take long to know that this woman was serious," Lecroy
said. "Shots were one of the last things I heard. I was
so worried for her."School clerk Antoinette Tuff in an interview on ABC's
"World News with Diane Sawyer" said she worked to convince the gunman
to put down his weapons and ammunition."He told me he was sorry
for what he was doing. He was willing to die," Tuff told
ABC.She told him her life s

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">n for 17-year-old Michael Jones, who allegedly drove
the vehicle carrying the other suspects. He was charged with the use
of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon and accessory to
murder after the fact. Jones is considered a youthful offender but will
be tried in adult court.Prosecutor Jason Hicks called the boys "thugs" in
court, saying Luna was sitting in the rear seat of a car
when he pulled the trigger on a .22 caliber revolver and shot
Lane once in the back. Hicks said Jones was driving the vehicle
and Edwards was in the passenger seat.Edwards has had run-ins with the
law previously and had been in court Friday, the day of the
killing, to sign documents related to his juvenile probation."I believe
this man is a threat to the community and should not be
let out," Hicks said as he requested no bond for Edwards. "He
thinks it's all a joke."The 17-year-old wept in court after he tried
to speak and was cut off by the judge."I'm appalled," Hicks said
after the hearing. "This is not supposed to happen in this community."Police
Chief Dan Ford said Lane appeared to have been chosen at random,
saying in a variety of media interviews since Friday's killing that one
suspect told officers that he and other boys were bored and that
they followed Lane and killed him for "the fun of it."A woman
tried CPR and paramedics arrived on scene, but Lane was pronounced dead
an hour later."He went by a residence where these three boys were,

ve Boone and other past mascots
a retirement ceremony in the upcoming academic year. The image of Denver
Boone was originally designed by a Walt Disney artist and named by
a UD student back in 1968 .The cartoony figure, which sports a
scruffy beard and a raccoon skin cap, is reminiscent of the Daniel
Boone character from the 1950s TV show based on the real-life pioneer.Boone
was a legend of early American history and the archetypal hero of
the American Western Frontier.Later, his image and legend fell victim to
revisionist history as he became associated with the forceful displacement
of Native Americans from their land.So how closely linked are Denver Boone
and Daniel Boone?Any association of the Denver Boone caricature with America's
pioneer hero, Daniel Boone, is misguided, said Randell Jones, historian
and author of the book In the Footsteps of Daniel Boone.Mythology and
Fess Parker aside, it is well documented that Daniel Boone never wore
a coonskin cap. Neither did he wear a beard. Moreover, any exploits
by him west of Missouri are speculative at best.
