out before another storm rolled in.
On the way home he insisted on sharing his peanut butter and
honey sandwiches with me and the chief-of-staff, Andy Card. The sun had
started setting as we left to return to the White House and
we talked just like friends do he asked me all about
my family, travels, pets and goals. I remember every moment of that
night including the orange and pink sunset that lasted the whole
flight. Another time he howled when I told him how my mom
had asked me about my first week at the White House, and
how Id told her all about how great it was and how
Karl Rove had been so nice and helpful to me, and how
he was just so smart and how happy I was to be
at the White House.when I broke to take a breath my mom
said, Who the hell is Karl Rove? Every week he held a
secure video conference either with Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki or Afghan
President Karzai, and I learned from his strong but gentle guidance of
them always respectful, firm, encouraging and non-condescending. I noted
that even behind closed doors, President Bush strongly, ably and graciously
defended America. He used to catch my eye during policy meetings and
tip me a wink with a little smile as we had noticed
when Vice President Cheney had been resting his eyes. Then wed share
a laugh realizing once again that it was clear the VP had
heard every word. President Bush treated my dad like the king of
England when he came for a state dinner as if his
e, operating
separately from Goodlatte's committee, has been working behind the scenes
on a sweeping bill expected to be similar to what the Senate
is considering. Goodlatte said he will be interested to see what that
group produces but hasn't determined how his committee might approach it.
He also said that while he's decided to begin with hearings on
individual bills, there's been no decision on how to approach voting on
any legislation or when to hold a vote. And whatever Goodlatte's committee
does, final decisions on the approach in the House will be made
by Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, who's avoided taking any public stance
so far on how to move forward. Boehner issued a brief statement
through a spokesman Thursday commending both Goodlatte and the bipartisan
House working group on immigration "for their continuing work on this complex
and important issue."

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">Republicans say spending for House operations, including lawmaker offices,
has dropped by more than $200 million since they took control three
years ago.GOP lawmakers said Thursday they saved the money mainly by trimming
the budgets of committees, leadership offices and individual lawmaker offices. The
House imposed an 8.2 percent reduction on lawmakers' personal office budgets
in March, after automatic, across-the-board cuts in most federal programs
took effect. That came on top of 11 percent cuts to office
budgets during 2011 and 2012.Committees also took an 11 percent hit this
year."Many families and small businesses are cutting back, and it's only
right that the House of Representatives lead by example," House Speaker
John Boehner, R-Ohio, said.Congress "should not be immune to our economic
hardship, which is why Republicans have implemented the largest cut to the
House's operating budget in recent history," said House Administration Committee
Chairman Candice Miller, R-Mich.They said the operating budget in fiscal
2013, ending in September, was $1.16 billion, down from about $1.37 billion
in 2010, the last year Democrats were in the majority.House members, who
receive annual office budgets of more than $1 million, say they are
economizing by traveling less, putting off new office purchases and not
hiring new staff. While furloughs have largely been avoided, House maintenance
projects have been delayed, retiring employees are not being
rt says Ferrelle told officers that
when he passed back by the house on his return trip later
in the day, Currington got in his own boat with a camera
and chased Ferrelle to where he docks his tour boat. Currington was
cursing and threatening to "(expletive) Mr. Ferrelle up," the police report
said."If I hadn't gotten into my slip fast enough, I believe he
would have run me over," Ferrelle told police, according to the incident
report.A woman saying she was the caretaker of an elderly man sharing
the same address as Currington also called police to complain a passing
boat nearly knocked the man off the home's dock and into the
water. The police report said the woman was talking about the events
that led to Currington chasing after the tour boat."Well what is it
we can do to keep people from coming up on our docks
or swamping our docks?" said the woman, identified in the police report
as Julie Muscleman.Ferrelle called police again the next day saying he feared
for his life because he had another tour scheduled and would have
to pass by Currington's property again after being threatened. The incident
report said police agreed to have a patrol boat nearby when Ferrelle
passed the home. The tour boat captain told police he had no idea
why Currington was so angry. Ferrelle did not return phone messages left
Wednesday and Thursday by The Associated Press.Currington is a native of
the Georgia coast. His hits include "Pretty Good At Drinkin'
