reform, FWD.US also supports education reform and expanded scientific research,
with other co-founders including Joe Green of NationBuilder and LinkedIns
Reid Hoffman.Council for American Job Growth is led by Democratic strategists,
but has a TV ad in which Alaska Sen. Mark Begich, a
Democrat seeking 2014 re-election in a largely conservative state, supports
drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The group Public Citizen
argues that such support is surprising, pointing to a 2010 Greenpeace blog
post in which Zuckerman tells Facebook followers that new offices in Oregon
will go from coal to hydro power, adding were moving in the
right direction here. They also cite an op-ed Zuckerberg wrote last month
announcing the group in which he said the economy of the last
century was primarily based on natural resources and a zero-sum situation
in which if someone else had an oil field, then you did
not.Credo has also taken its protest one step further by starting a
campaign that calls on protesters to pledge to risk arrest if President
Obama moves forward with a plan to approve the pipeline. The group says
at least 60,000 people have already signed the pledge.
essTANTA, Egypt An Egyptian prosecutor says prominent activist Ahmed
Douma has been arrested and immediately referred to trial for allegedly
insulting the country's president in comments he made on TV.There are a
myriad of complaints against journalists and TV personalities, including
satirist Bassem Youssef, for insulting Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.
At least two journalists faced trials while others are still questioned. But
Douma is the first activist to be quickly referred to trial while
in custody.Prosecutor Mohammed el-Taneekhi said Thursday that Douma's trial
will begin on Sunday. He was arrested Tuesday after a Muslim Brotherhood
member complained that Douma called Morsi a "killer" and a "criminal," and
blamed him for a violent security crackdown on protesters in the coastal
city of Port Said that left 40 people dead.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">June 30, 2011: California Gov. Jerry Brown signs the state budget.APSACRAMENTO,
Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown announced Wednesday that he has signed legislation
expanding the ability of state agents to seize firearms from nearly 20,000
Californians who are not allowed to have them. They collectively own more
than 39,000 handguns and 1,670 assault weapons but are prohibited from owning
firearms because they have been convicted of crimes, ruled mentally unstable
or are subject to domestic violence restraining orders. The bill authorizes
$24 million for the state Department of Justice's Armed and Prohibited Persons
program. The money will go to hire more agents to confiscate the
weapons and reduce the backlog over the next three years. The program, which
is unique to California, cross-checks five databases to find people who
bought weapons they are no longer legally allowed to own.SB140 by Senator
Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, authorizes $24 million to hire more agents to
confiscate the weapons and reduce the backlog over the next three years. The
bill is the first of numerous firearms bills introduced by lawmakers in
response to recent mass shootings in Connecticut and Colorado. The Democratic
governor signed the bill without comment."California is leading the nation
in a common-sense effort to protect public safety," Attorney General Kamala
Harris, who oversees the state Department of Justice, said in a statement.U.S.
Rep. Mike Thompson, a Democrat f
extremist groups in Syria are playing," Little said. "We understand
the dynamics that that creates."He said the U.S. has to also look
beyond any move to bring an end to the Assad regime, and
work with allies on what a post-Assad Syria would look like.Dempsey, however,
also noted that during these difficult fiscal times, the U.S. military could
do whatever was needed or ordered in Syria, but would likely require
supplemental funding in order to sustain any operations over time. He said
the military options are ready, although he has not yet been ordered
to take any action.Obama has said all military options are on the
table, but there has been little appetite for putting U.S. military boots
on the ground in Syria.
