MIAMI The Justice Department has shifted course on whether terrorism defendants
deserve notice about evidence derived from formerly secret government surveillance
programs.Prosecutors in a Miami case involving two Pakistani-born brothers
now acknowledge they must notify the defendants if evidence from National
Security Agency phone and Internet surveillance programs were part of the
case. In May, the government insisted no such notice was required. The change
follows leaks by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealing the massive
surveillance programs to the public. The programs were authorized by amendments
to the Patriot Act in 2008.Despite the shift, prosecutors say they don't
plan to use any of this evidence to prosecute Raees Alam Qazi
and Sheheryar Alam Qazi. Both have pleaded not guilty to terrorism-related
charges involving an alleged New York bomb plot.
FILE: O.J. Simpson testifies during an evidentiary hearing in Clark County
District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada.ReutersCARSON CITY, Nev. O.J. Simpson
won a small victory Wednesday in his bid for freedom as Nevada
granted him parole on some of his convictions in a 2008 kidnapping
and armed robbery involving the holdup of two sports memorabilia dealers
at a Las Vegas hotel room. But the decision doesn't mean Simpson will
be leaving prison anytime soon. Because he was convicted on multiple charges,
Simpson still faces at least four more years in prison on sentences
that were ordered to run consecutively.- O.J. SimpsonThe Nevada Board of
Parole Commissioners on Wednesday released an order approving the former
NFL star's parole request.Simpson appeared before a two-member parole panel
last Thursday to plead for leniency. He expressed regret for his actions
and said he's tried to be a model inmate while behind bars.Lovelock
Correctional Center officials say he's had no disciplinary actions against
him.Simpson was convicted in December 2008 on charges including kidnapping,
robbery, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to
nine to 33 years for the 2007 stick up of two memorabilia
dealers, Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong.Simpson still faces time for
four weapon enhancement sentences, following by consecutive terms for two
counts of assault with a deadly weapon.During last week's parole hearing,
a graying Simpson told Paro

<p style="font-size:xx-small;"> iStockOn Tuesday morning, a frustrated passenger on Delta Air Lines Flight
1452 from Seattle Tacoma International Airport to New York's JFK International
Airport took luggage fee resentment to a new level. The traveler apparently
simply gave up his bags.Rather than face $1,400 in overweight baggage fees,
the flier opted to leave his belongings behind at the Delta check-in
kiosk in Seattle, reports NBC News. As a result, the Delta lobby
was closed down for more than two hours while security inspected the
unattended luggage.Eventually Seattles airport security determined the discarded
bags were not a threat and were able to identify their owner
and the owner's flight.Law enforcement officials with the Port Authority
of New York/New Jersey met the flight and interviewed the passenger upon
arrival at JFK, TSA spokesperson Ross Feinstein told NBC News.Upon interviewing
the traveler, officials determined there was no criminal intent by the passenger. While
this is an extreme case, Delta admits that they find unattended bags
on a regular basis, according to Yahoo Finance. This does not come as
a surprise after examining the airlines rates for checking luggage. Delta
currently charges $25 for the first checked bag, $35 for the second
checked bag on domestic flights. A checked bag costs $125 and bags
4-10 cost $200 each.Even worse, the airline charges fees on top of
fees.According to Delta's website, If an extra piece of baggage exceeds
the weight
onight when I called and emailed Olivia to apologize," she said in
a statement.Josh Marshall, editor and publisher of Talking Points Memo, told
The Wall Street Journal in an email that the conversation was "definitely
on the record."In her Daily News piece,Nuzzi wrote that Weiner often called
interns "Monica," a reference to former White House intern Monica Lewinsky,
and that many people worked on the campaign to get close to
Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin. Abedin is an ex-aide to former Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton.Meanwhile, Weiner released a new campaign video Tuesday
evening saying he won't quit the race, despite calls from politicians and
newspaper editors who have said he should quit.In the one-minute video posted
on his campaign's website, he said his critics don't know New York
or him and that quitting isn't what New Yorkers do, they "fight
through tough things."He said in the video that when "embarrassing" things
in a person's private life become public, the person should talk about
it.The Associated Press contributed to this report.Click here for more from
The Wall Street Journal.
