LONDON A prominent Saudi prince has lost a case in Britain
over the handling the sale of a jet to the late Libyan
dictator Moammar Gadhafi.Prince Alwaleed bin Talal was being sued by Jordanian
businesswoman Daad Sharab, who claimed she was owed a 6.5 million pound
($9.9 million) commission for helping arrange the 2005 sale. The prince,
a nephew of Saudi King Abdullah whose wealth is estimated in the
billions, had denied agreeing to pay a specific commission.High Court Judge
Peter Smith ruled against the prince Wednesday at a hearing in London,
describing his evidence as "confusing and too unreliable."Sharab praised
the ruling, saying the decision reinforced her faith in the impartiality
of British courts.
wrote."It has been more than 10 months
since the attacks. We appear to be no closer to knowing who was
responsible today than we were in the early weeks following the attack.
This is simply unacceptable. We encourage you to be aggressive in your
investigation to properly hold accountable those who attacked our compounds
in Benghazi."Obama administration officials have tried to assuage lawmakers'
lingering concerns and questions about the Benghazi attack, including over
allegations that the administration misled the public about the nature of
the assault last September. But lawmakers have also grown increasingly frustrated
over the fact that nobody has been brought to justice since four
Americans were killed in the attack on two U.S. posts in the
eastern Libya city that was a home base for the anti-Qaddafi rebellion.Lawmakers
probed further on Wednesday, when they had a closed hearing with Col.
George Bristol, who was the commander of a task force operating in
northern and western Africa. He briefed members of the House Armed Services
Committee.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;"> July 29, 2013: Tourists and locals play on Ko'Olina beach on the
island of Oahu, Hawaii.ReutersLawmakers in the Aloha State want to wave
goodbye to their growing homeless population -- by buying them a one-way
ticket off the island.Hawaii's controversial three-year Return to Home pilot
program launches later this year and is being billed as a way
to help the states 17,000 homeless residents, while reducing the financial
burden the state has in caring for them. Under the plan, the
state will pay for a one-way plane ticket for any homeless resident
who can find someone on the mainland to take them in.The program,
which has a $100,000 annual budget, is the brainchild of state Rep.
John Mizuno, who had unsuccessfully tried to get a similar plan through
the past three legislative sessions. This year, the measure was attached
to a larger spending bill and squeaked through the state legislature.Critics,
though, say the program is a quick fix and does nothing to
address the root causes of homelessness.Patricia McManaman, director of
the Department of Human Services the agency tasked with implementing the
program -- told lawmakers she had reservations about the plan to send
the states homeless away and questioned the programs funding. She also had
a problem with language in the bill that suggests homeless people are
in need of sufficient personal hygiene in order to travel something
she calls an unnecessary and inappropriate stereotype. But Miz
MIAMI The Justice Department has shifted course on whether terrorism defendants
deserve notice about evidence derived from formerly secret government surveillance
programs.Prosecutors in a Miami case involving two Pakistani-born brothers
now acknowledge they must notify the defendants if evidence from National
Security Agency phone and Internet surveillance programs were part of the
case. In May, the government insisted no such notice was required. The change
follows leaks by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealing the massive
surveillance programs to the public. The programs were authorized by amendments
to the Patriot Act in 2008.Despite the shift, prosecutors say they don't
plan to use any of this evidence to prosecute Raees Alam Qazi
and Sheheryar Alam Qazi. Both have pleaded not guilty to terrorism-related
charges involving an alleged New York bomb plot.
