(AFP) South African swimmer Chad le Clos celebrated the one year
anniversary of his Olympic 200 metres butterfly gold in perfect fashion
Wednesday as he added the world title in the event in Barcelona. The
21-year-old, who beat legend Michael Phelps on the wall in the Olympic
final, clocked 1min 54.32secs with Poland's 2005 world champion Pawel Korzeniowski
0.29 behind and China's Wu Peng third at 0.37 back."It is the
first time I have won a world title so it is a
landmark moment for me," beamed Le Clos."I wanted to win this title
to mark the anniversary of my Olympic title."It is the exact same
day that I won the gold last year and almost to the
hour, so it is a very special day for me to win
the world gold."Le Clos admitted with US star Phelps now retired and
no longer the name to beat, he struggled to cope with the
'favourite' tag."I think going into the race I was a little bit
anxious, I didn't expect to go in as first seed so as
you come out last, it is a little bit nerve-wracking," he said."My
main goal was just to try and win tonight."Last year I remember
being really relaxed before my

on July 31, 2013.AFP/FileBAGHDAD (AFP) Violence in Iraq killed 989 people
in July, government figures released on Wednesday showed, making it the
deadliest month since April 2008.The dead comprised 778 civilians, 88 police,
55 soldiers and 68 insurgents, according to the figures compiled by the
health, interior and defence ministries.Violence also wounded 1,567 people
in July -- 1,356 civilians, 122 police and 89 soldiers.The figures make
July the deadliest month since 2008, when Iraq was emerging from a
bloody sectarian conflict. In April of that year, 1,428 people were killed,
according to official figures -- 966 civilians, 69 police, 38 soldiers and
355 insurgents.Iraq has faced years of attacks by militants, but analysts
say widespread discontent among the Sunni Arab minority, which the government
has failed to address, has fuelled this year's spike in unrest.Sunnis accuse
the Shiite-led government of marginalising and targeting their community,
including unwarranted arrests and terrorism charges.Protests that erupted
in Sunni areas at the end of 2012 are still ongoing. In addition
to major security problems, the government is also failing to provide adequate
basic services such as electricity and clean water, and corruption is widespr

for a book on how the U.S. responded to atrocities in Rwanda
and Bosnia in the 1990s and for years has backed intervention --
including military force -- to halt human rights atrocities. At her Senate
confirmation hearing this month, she distanced herself from her 2002 call
for a "mammoth protection force" to prevent Middle East violence, calling
it a "remarkably incoherent answer."On Tuesday, the Senate approved nominees
for all five seats on the National Labor Relations Board, which tries

two days after being confirmed, the new leader of the FBI is
facing pressure from Congress to get to the bottom of the Benghazi
terror attacks.Eight Republican lawmakers, voicing frustration about the
seemingly slow pace of the investigation 10 months after the Sept. 11
attacks, are preparing a letter to James Comey demanding he make the
Benghazi probe a priority, Fox News confirms. Comey was confirmed on Monday
to replace Robert Mueller at the helm of the FBI.Rep. Jason Chaffetz,
R-Utah, who started the letter along with Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told
Fox News that the FBI is failing to interview key people connected
with the militant group Ansar al-Sharia."Our FBI has never talked to these
people, and that's just wholly unacceptable," Chaffetz said."This is a pathetic
effort to bring people to justice," Graham said, in a separate interview
with Fox News.In the draft letter, the lawmakers ask for a status

suspects involved in the attack. The FBI continues to add pictures of
potential assailants to its website and asks the Libyan people to assist
