July 11, 2013: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi speaks to reporters on
Capitol Hill in Washington.APThe big news on ObamaCare these past two weeks
has been the administration's announcement that it will delay by one year
the requirement on businesses to provide health insurance.Nancy Pelosi,
though, had a curious take on the whole thing. Actually, she instructed
reporters, "The mandate was not delayed."The House Democratic leader used
some creative reasoning to make her case -- she claimed the administration
really only delayed the requirement on businesses to report insurance coverage
details. But The Washington Post fact-checker on Friday shut it down, effectively
ruling that Pelosi is trying to "deny reality.""Yes, reporting requirements
were delayed. But there also was a one-year delay of the actual
employer mandate. It's right there in the announcement," the Post wrote.-
House Democratic Leader Nancy PelosiHere's what Pelosi said during a press
conference on Thursday:"The point is, is that the mandate was not delayed.
Certain reporting by businesses that could be perceived as onerous, that
reporting requirement was delayed, and partially to review how it would
work and how it could be better. It was not a delay
of the mandate for the businesses."Pelosi was correct in the first part
of that statement. In an announcement last week on the Treasury Department
blog, Mark J. Mazur. assistant secretary for Tax Policy at Treasury, said
th
SAN DIEGO The mayor of San Diego apologized on Thursday for
failing to respect women who worked for him after a prominent former
supporter accused him of sexual harassment and urged him to resign as
leader of the nation's eighth-largest city.Mayor Bob Filner said he needs
help and pleaded for patience. Without detailing his actions, Filner, 70,
called his behavior inappropriate and wrong and said he "diminished" the
office."If my behavior doesn't change, I cannot succeed in leading our city,"
Filner, a Democrat, said. "You have every right to be disappointed in
me. I only ask that you give me an opportunity to prove
I am capable of change, so that the vision I have for
our city's future can be realized."Donna Frye, a former councilwoman and
once a key supporter of Filner, choked up earlier in the day
as she called for Filner to step down, calling it one of
the most difficult decisions she has made. She said the allegations were
based on firsthand accounts but refused to divulge specifics such as the
nature of the abuse or whether it occurred while Filner was mayor.Frye,
who is embraced by Filner's liberal base, said more than one woman
told her about being harassed but she didn't elaborate."I believe what they
have told me, and they need to know that they are not
alone," she said at a news conference. "There are people who support
and care about them."Filner, who is divorced, said he has started working
with professionals to change hi

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">charges were probably true or
definitely true.My bet is that poll would have different results today.
The trial has failed to prove Zimmerman acted with a depraved mind
as required for a second-degree murder conviction or even with
a racist mind. He certainly killed Martin. And the jury may decide
he is guilty of second-degree murder or manslaughter. But what we heard
in the courtroom fits with an FBI report that found race was
not a factor in Martins shooting death. The strong public judgment of Zimmermans
guilt in the poll reflected a racially weighted media telling of the
story. Photos of a bloodied Zimmerman after the incident, Zimmermans claim
of self-defense and the police decision not to charge Zimmerman all got
a dismissive glance from the press and contributed to public assumptions
about Zimmerman before the trial. Liberal and conservative news TV and radio
have played to the racial theme, too. The left, notably Rev. Al
Sharpton, have made the case a crusade for racial justice. The right-wing
media, especially talk radio, has responded by making Zimmerman a hero.
In fact, Zimmermans lawyer, Mark OMara, created an online site that attracted
more than $145,000 from people who somehow made Zimmerman into their champion,
possibly their great white hero. The national focus on race in this case
hit a high point when Rachel Jeantel, a 19-year-old student, testified that
she spoke with Martin just before he was killed. Jeantel, Martins
s behavior and that he and his staff
will participate in training regarding sexual harassment. He said he will
personally apologize to current and former employees over the next few days,
including men and women."It's a good thing that behavior that would have
been tolerated in the past is being called out in this generation
for what it is: inappropriate and wrong," he said. "When a friend
like Donna Frye is compelled to call for my resignation, I'm clearly
doing something wrong."The apology came as Filner's allies clamored for
an explanation. The scandal erupted during a bad stretch for Filner, who
was elected to a four-year term in November after 10 terms in
Congress. On Monday, his fiance, Bronwyn Ingram, announced in an email to
her team of volunteers that she was breaking their engagement."I am extremely
disappointed and heartbroken, both for what Team First Lady could have accomplished,
and for me, personally; however, this is the only action I can
take given the devolvement of our personal relationship," Ingram wrote. Two
top Filner aides recently quit. Allen Jones, his deputy chief of staff,
resigned at a staff meeting over what Filner called disagreements about
how he was running the office. When Filner asked if anyone else
in the room wanted out, Irene McCormack, his communications director, came
forward.Frye served as Filner's director of open government for several
months until resigning for a position at Californians Aware, a
