Subject: LiS 2.18.3 Released - SVR 4 STREAMS for Linux
Reply-To: bidulock@openss7.org
LiS 2.18.3 was released under GPLv2 on March 15, 2006.
LiS (Linux STREAMS) is a STREAMS framework that is compatible with UNIX
SVR 4 STREAMS as described in the "UNIX System V Release 4 Programmer's
Guide - STREAMS".
The LiS 2.18.3 release is the OpenSS7 Project's <http://www.openss7.org/>
most recent release of the Linux 2.4 and 2.6 kernel compatible package.
It includes libraries, documentation and all the things needed to run
STREAMS for OpenSS7 SS7 packages and other LiS based products.
This release provides:
- Corrections for and testing of 64-bit clean compile and test runs on
x86_64 architecture.
- Some bug corrections resulting from gcc 4.0.2 compiler warnings.
- Corrected build flags for Gentoo and 2.6.15 kernels as reported on
mailing list. Builds on FC4 2.6.15 kernel and with gcc 4.0.2.
- Added in many of Paul's 64-bit corrections.
This is an unstable public alpha release of the package.
This release, as the release before it, suppresses versioning of
LiS exported symbols and restores to a large degree binary compatibility
of interface functions with LiS 2.18.0. It again contains the pipe
performance programs an POSIX conformance test suite used with Linux
Fast-STREAMS for comparison testing between LiS and Linux Fast-STREAMS.
These programs were used to generate the comparison performance test
results <http://www.openss7.org/streams_perf.html> and conformance test
results <http://www.openss7.org/streams_pics.html>.
A large number of additional tests cases were found to fail on x86_64
and SMP architectures making the LiS packages largely unusable. Please
read <http://www.openss7.org/codefiles/LiS-2.18.3/README-alpha> in the
release.
The package is still largely unusable on 64-bit or SMP kernels. Linux
STREAMS IS DEPRECATED. DO NOT USE IT. THE PACKAGE CONTAINS MANY
UNRESOLVED BUGS. USE Linux Fast-STREAMS INSTEAD.
This is the OpenSS7 Project's third, and likely last, LiS-2.18.0-based
release of LiS. The release includes all of the improvements from
previous releases as well as a few additional 64-bit patches. The
OpenSS7 Project will be replacing LiS with Linux Fast-STREAMS in all
further production releases.
As with other OpenSS7 releases, this release configures, compiles,
installs and builds rpms for a wide range of Linux 2.4 and 2.6 RPM-based
distributions, and can be used on production kernels without patching or
recompiling the kernel.
This package is released under the 'GNU Public License Version 2'. The
release is available as an autoconf/RPM tarball, SRPM and set of binary
RPMs. See the download page <http://www.openss7.org/download.html> for
the autoconf tarballs and SRPMs. See the LiS package page at
<http://www.openss7.org/streams_pkg.html> for tarballs, SRPMs and binary
RPMs.
See <http://www.openss7.org/codefiles/LiS-2.18.3/ChangeLog> and
<http://www.openss7.org/codefiles/LiS-2.18.3/NEWS> in the release for
more information. Also, see the manual/LiS.pdf manual in the release
(also at <http://www.openss7.org/LiS_manual.html>).

Subject: streams 0.7a.5 Released - High Performance SVR 4.2 MP STREAMS for Linux
Reply-To: bidulock@openss7.org
streams-0.7a.5 was released under GPLv2 on March 15, 2006.
Linux Fast-STREAMS is a complete reimplementation of SVR 4.2 MP STREAMS
for Linux, intended as a high-performance production replacement for the
failing and deprecated LiS.
This is the second fully functioning OpenSS7 Project public release of
Linux Fast-STREAMS, the high-performance reimplementation of SVR 4.2 MP
STREAMS for Linux. This release is a beta release and has been
extensively tested and is mostly stable. The purpose of the release is
to provide the community with the ability to try the code and
documentation. Later releases will include any fixes or missing
functionality.
This release has been performance tested (see the results at
<http://www.openss7.org/streams_perf.html>) and conformance tested (see
the results at <http://www.openss7.org/streams_pics.html>) and tested in
comparison with LiS. Linux Fast-STREAMS far exceeds LiS in every
dimension. Linux Fast-STREAMS is upt to seven (7) times faster, one
eighth (1/8) the size, and conforms far better to POSIX/SUSv3 standards.
Linux Fast-STREAMS is already more stable that LiS on 64-bit, SMP
kernels, and SMP platforms, and does not lock up on UP kernel where LiS
does.
This release is primarily to support additional compilers (gcc 4.0.2),
architectures (x86_64, SMP, 32-bit compatibility), recent Linux
distributions (EL4, SuSE 10, LE2006, OpenSuSE) and kernels (2.6.15). It
includes:
- Changes to wait queues. Split single wait queue into four
independent wait queues. Reworked wait queues for both old style
(2.4) and new style (2.6) semantics.
- Changes to satisfy gcc 4.0.2 compiler.
- Corrected build flags for Gentoo and 2.6.15 kernels as reported on
mailing list. Build and run tested on FC4 i686 and x86_64 kernels
based on 2.6.15.
- Corrections for and testing of 64-bit clean compile and test runs on
x86_64 architecture. Some bug corrections resulting from gcc 4.0.2
compiler warnings.
- Initial corrections for and testing of SMP operation on Intel 630
Hyper-Threaded SMP on x86_64. This package should now run well on
N-way Xeons even with Hyper-Threading enabled.
- Corrections and validation of 32-bit compatibility over 64-bit on
x86_64. Should apply well to other 64-bit architectures as well.
This is a public beta test release of the package: it deprecates
previous releases. Please upgrade before reporting bugs on previous
releases.
See the streams package page at
<http://www.openss7.org/streams_pkg.html> for tarballs, SRPMs and binary
RPMs.
See <http://www.openss7.org/codefiles/streams-0.7a.5/ChangeLog> and
<http://www.openss7.org/codefiles/streams-0.7a.5/NEWS> in the release
for more information. Also, see the STREAMS.pdf manual in the release
(also in html <http://www.openss7.org/STREAMS_manual.html>).

Subject: strxnet 0.9.2.8 Released - XTI Library for Linux Fast-STREAMS
Reply-To: bidulock@openss7.org
strxnet-0.9.2.8 was released under GPLv2 on March 15, 2006.
The STREAM XTI/TLI Library for Linunx Fast-STREAMS is an implementation
of the X/Open Transport Interface or SVID Transport Layer Interface
library in accordance with SUSv2 and XNS 5.2 standards. It consists of
a user-space library (libxnet) and a set of cooperating STREAMS modules
(timod and tirdwr). The STREAMS module timod is pushed on any Stream
implementing a Transport Provider Interface (TPI 2.0.0) service
interface and provides XTI/TLI library access to the transport provider.
This OpenSS7 Project release is another separate release of the OpenSS7
STREAMS XTI/TLI Library and modules that were formerly present in the
(now deprecated) Linux STREAMS (LiS) package. These networking modules
provide TPI and XTI/TLI Library (libxnet), as well as providing TPI and
XTI header files. The package contains all the necessary manual pages
and other documentation for XTI components in a separate autoconf
tarball.
This release is primarily to support additional compilers (gcc 4.0.2),
architectures (x86_64, SMP, 32-bit compatibility), recent Linux
distributions (EL4, SuSE 10, LE2006, OpenSuSE) and kernels (2.6.15).
This is primarily a maintenance release. Validated for operation on
x86_64 SMP kernel using Linux Fast-STREAMS. Changes included to handle
__LP64__ kernels. Corrected build flags for Gentoo and 2.6.15 kernels
as reported on mailing list. Corrects one bug from inspection. It
includes:
- Changes necessary for __LP64__ compatible builds. Changes to support
32-bit ioctl compatibility for __LP64__ architectures. Binary
compatibility should not have been disrupted. At the same time as
the ioctl32 changes, TRANSPARENT ioctl support for most of the IO
controls for the ldl(4) driver has been added.
- Changes to satisfy gcc 4.0.2 compiler.
- Corrections for and testing of 64-bit clean compile and test runs on
x86_64 architecture. Some bug corrections resulting from gcc 4.0.2
compiler warnings.
- Corrected build flags for Gentoo and 2.6.15 kernels as reported on

Subject: strcompat 0.9.2.3 Released - UNIX SVR 4.2 Compatibility Modules for Linux Fast-STREAMS
Reply-To: bidulock@openss7.org
strcompat-0.9.2.3 was released under GPLv2 on March 15, 2006.
The STREAMS Compatibility Modules package provides the ability for both
Linux Fast-STREAMS and the deprecated Linux STREAMS (LiS) to exhibit
source level compatibility with a wide range of UNIX STREAMS
implementations. Also, it provides source compatibility with Linux
Fast-STREAMS for Lis, and LiS (source and some 2.18.0 binary)
compatibility for Linux Fast-STREAMS. The objective of the package is
to provide source level compatibility with a wide range of UNIX STREAMS
implementations permitting drivers and modules to port easily to Linux
Fast-STREAMS from any other STREAMS implementation, making it possible
to release drivers and modules from a single UNIX code base with minimal
localisms for Linux.
This is the OpenSS7 Project's third separate release of the OpenSS7
STREAMS Compatibility Modules that were formerly present in the Linux
Fast-STREAMS streams-0.7a.2 release package. These compatibility
modules provide source level compatibility with AIX, HPUX, OSF/1, MacOT,
Mentat, SUX, Solaris, SUPER/UX, IRIX, LiS, UnixWare, UXP/V and SVR 4.2
STREAMS. The package contains all the necessary manual pages and other
documentation in an autoconf tarball.
This release is primarily to support additional compilers (gcc 4.0.2),
architectures (x86_64, SMP, 32-bit compatibility), recent Linux
distributions (EL4, SuSE 10, LE2006, OpenSuSE) and kernels (2.6.15). It

Subject: strinet 0.9.2.3 Released - XTI Library for Linux Fast-STREAMS
Reply-To: bidulock@openss7.org
strinet-0.9.2.3 was released under GPLv2 on March 15, 2006.
STREAMS INET is an implementation of Internet Protocol for Linux
Fast-STREAMS directly over the Linux NET4 Sockets implementation, using
a STREAMS over Sockets approach. This permits modules to be pushed on
UDP or TCP Streams and allows use of the XTI/TLI library with Internet
Protocols on Linux.
This OpenSS7 Project release is another separate release of the OpenSS7
STREAMS INET driver that was formerly present in the (now deprecated)
Linux STREAMS (LiS) package. The networking driver (streams-inet) is
provided, as well as the TPI and XTI header files for INET operation.
The package contains all the necessary manual pages and other
documentation for INET components in a separate autoconf tarball.
This release is primarily to support additional compilers (gcc 4.0.2),
architectures (x86_64, SMP, 32-bit compatibility), recent Linux
distributions (EL4, SuSE 10, LE2006, OpenSuSE) and kernels (2.6.15).

as reported on mailing list. Corrects several bugs reported by project
sponsors. It includes:
- Corrected build flags for Gentoo and 2.6.15 kernels as reported on
mailing list.
This is a public gamma release of the package: it deprecates previous
packages. Please upgrade before reporting problems with previous
packages.
