For many looking for offerings and updates to software here, I and
many others may find themselves at a loss as to what does the
software do -- what is it's purpose.

One could go to the various listed web sites but wouldn't it be
courteous to include a basic description of the software at the
beginning of the post. Many existing posters here do and have done
this for some time.

It's just a suggestion and one that I hope the moderator will let
through and/or enforce it or remind announcers about it.
It is part of the charter :

=====
How do I write a successful announcement?
Note: This section is very much based on my own opinions. I have not
made any survey of whether following these notes will actually make
things better for you.

Within the first five lines, say what the program does. Don't make
people read through fifty screens of text to find out.
[snip]
Don't assume people have heard of you or your program. Always explain
what it does, even if only with a couple of sentences.

Subject: AMPC 1.3.5 released (C to JVM compiler suite)
From: Mohd-Hanafiah Abdullah <napi@axiomsol.com>
Reply-To: napi@axiomsol.com

This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.3.5'
of AMPC (Axiomatic Multi-Platform C) C to JVM compiler suite.

Detailed info can be found at:
http://www.axiomsol.com

Fixed bugs related to handling of multiple blocks within a
function. Jasmin assembler also updated to properly handle
octal digits found in strings.

Project description:

Axiomatic Multi-Platform C (AMPC) is a C compiler suite with
an IDE that generates Java bytecode to produce platform
independent applicatons. It supports a very large subset of
ANSI C (1989). It can be used to develop new applications
using C as well as port existing applications written in C
to run on JVM enabled devices. A JNI (JVM Native Interface)
feature is available for calling native C or C++ functions.
Also, many Java methods can be called from AMPC. The asm()
directive can be used to embed Jasmin assembly code within
C source code. It is useful for writing new applications
using existing C skill-sets and porting C programs.

Towards platform independence with 'C'.

Subject: Xarchiver 0.3 released

Xarchiver is a GTK+2 lightweight archive manager supporting
arj,zip,rar,7z,tar,bzip2,gzip and RPM (open and extract only).
Arj,zip, rar and 7z password protected archives are supported.

This is the changelog:
- 7z and arj (also password protected) formats are supported if you
have 7za and arj installed. 7z password
protected archives are not automatically detected.
If you are able to decompress the main header of a 7z archive
                  let me know about it.
                - Added a view ability for text files inside the
archive. No external editor needed :-) !
                - The size columns are treated as uint instead as
string so that sorting by size is possible now.
                - The bottom window is now used for reporting messages
to the user.
                - Added a progress bar that shows the archive's
operation progress.
                - Greatly improved the zip password detection; if a an
archive contains 10 files and only the last one is password
protected Xarchiver will detect it (the same for arj).
                - When you open or create a password protected archive
a small padlock is shown in the window bottom right.
                - Fixed an occasional crash when opening zip archives.
                - Fixed a bug causing filenames of rpm archive not
displayed correctly.
                - Fixed a bug causing cpio temp file not to be deleted
when an error occurs.
                - Added russian and german translation (thanks to
Eugene Ostapets and Enrico Troeger).
                - Better gettext support.

Enjoy handling your archives without KDE or GNOME libs
