Walnut Creek CDROM Releases the Official Slackware Linux CDROM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 19th, 1995. Concord, CA--Walnut Creek CDROM announces the release of
the Official Slackware Linux CDROM. Slackware version 2.2 turns your machine
into a multitasking workstation with a full range of software development,
text editing, and image processing tools like GCC C and C++ compilers, TeX,
XView, and others. Linux also enables you to connect your machine to the
Internet and use electronic mail or news (with a supported ethernet card, or
with SLIP/PPP using a standard modem).
This two disc CDROM set was created by the author of Slackware and gives
you everything you need to install and run the operating system. The
first CDROM contains the Linux system (kernel 1.2.1) and source code. The
second contains archives from popular Internet Linux FTP sites like
sunsite.unc.edu and tsx-11.mit.edu. The popular "DOOM" arcade game from
id software is even included, to make sure you have a little fun with
Slackware Linux.
Slackware has been described as "the best Linux distribution we've come
across. Slackware's set up program made it simple to install." (PC Week,
April 1994) This ready-to-run operating system requires as little as 4 MB
of memory and 12 MB of hard disk space to run in CDROM dependent mode.
Custom installing Slackware Linux is easy using Linux's own high speed
Linux file system. A typical installation (including C and C++
development tools, emacs, networking with e-mail and news, the XFree86 X
Window System, and several applications) needs around 40 MB of hard disk
space.
Walnut Creek CDROM began hosting the Slackware Linux project on the
Internet in 1993. Since then, Slackware Linux has grown into one of the
most powerful operating systems available. Linux "is generally considered
to be the most user-friendly variant of UNIX around. . . the
[distribution] from Slackware is often a favorite." (SunExpert Magazine,
April 1995) Walnut Creek CDROM's two-disc Slackware Linux CDROM set is the
official distribution of Slackware Linux on CDROM.
This two disc set retails for $39.95.
