DSS is pleased to announce DACS version 1.4.7.
This is primarily a bug fix and minor enhancements release.
Because DACS is security software, all users are advised to upgrade.
This release includes:
o many bug fixes and documentation revisions
o some log entries now include a "session tracking identifier"
o sensible https/SSL defaults for the http command
o new dacs_auth_agent web service
o replacement of Store clause with VFS configuration directive
Note: this may require revisions to dacs.conf and site.conf
o added version header/footer lines to HTML man pages
o important bug fixes for local_ntlm_authenticate and local_ldap_authenticate
o upgrades to samba-3.0.20a, openldap-2.2.26, docbook-xsl-1.69.1,
openssl-0.9.7i, and Apache 2.0.55
o new delegated ACLs feature
o aclcheck now also checks the revocation list
o reworking of the former "url" virtual filestore type (now called "vfs")
o http/https URI schemes are supported by the new VFS directive
DACS is:
o a flexible and powerful role-based access control system
o a set of feature-rich authentication methods
o an Apache 2.0.X module and suite of CGI programs
o a federated identity management system (single sign-on)
o oriented towards (but not limited to) controlling access to web service
requests made using standard web browsers
o a collection of web services that can provide access control and identity
management functionality to your middleware
o a C/C++ toolkit for building new authentication and access control
functionality into programs, whether web-based or not
o for Unix-type platforms (currently), such as Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris
DACS can help you to manage access to web resources in many situations,
whether you have just one web server, several web servers at one site, or
many web servers spread across the Internet. You may find it to be
useful simply as a universal authentication mechanism for a single Apache
server or as a full-fledged, single sign-on multi-server identity management
and access control system.
DACS 1.4.7 is released under dual licensing terms (a GPL-compatible open
source license and a commercial license).
DACS is hosted on SourceForge at http://sourceforge.net/projects/dacs
