11. June 2005

Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux 4.026 adds Update 1 compiled
from the source packages from
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/enterprise/4AS/en/os/SRPMS
Release notes can be found at
http://www.lineox.net/RELEASE-NOTES-U1-x86-en.html
(x86 architecture) and
http://www.lineox.net/RELEASE-NOTES-U1-x86_64-en.html
(AMD 64-bit x86_64 architecture).

In the version 4.026 the installation environment is rebuilt, so it
offers better hardware support during the installation. See the
release notes for full information.

Compared to version 4.0 4.026 has 286 updated packages totaling 650MB
and x86_64 release has even more. See the Always Current Lineox
Enterprise Linux 4.x page for more information.

The x86_64 release requires either AMD Opteron or Athlon64 CPU based
computer. Some new Intel Xeon and Pentium IV processors with EM64T
(Extended Memory 64 Technology) will also be able to run this version.

Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux is a version of Lineox
Enterprise Linux 4.0 which is constantly updated and contains only
current versions of program packages. This means that there is no
instant need to download and update the system after installation and
the system is secure right from the start.

Lineox has an automated system running on a cluster which builds new
binary rpm packages as soon as new source code is available. All the
needed changes to source code are made automatically. These include
replacing some graphics files and changing or replacing some other
files mainly because of trademark issues while retaining full
compatibility. The resulting new rpm packages are usually available in
less than 12 hours after source code release. After that Lineox builds
Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux disks automatically, but
because of the time it takes to transfer the disk images to our web
server, they are available from 2 to 12 hours after we release new
packages.

Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux 4.026 was available for
download from Lineox site about 24 hours later than all the original
Update 1 sources were available.

Pricing and availability

Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux download quota costs 10 Euros
for one disk set and 15 Euros for two disk sets. Version 4.026 is also
available for free from our mirror servers and from the Lineox server
later next week.

Subject: IpTables ROPE 20050611 - eDonkey 2000 identification rule added

The iptables ROPE module allows users to write IP packet matching logic
using a simple and safe scripting language. Scripts are installed into
the Linux kernel using the iptables command and have "read-only" access
to all the packet header fields and the data payload. Example scripts
are povided to block Gnutella, block Bittorrent and block large HTTP
downloads.

The 20050611 release supplies the following changes..

1. New "ed2k_hello.rope" script for identifying eDonkey 2000 protocol -
to control (QoS, block, limit, allow - etc). For details of the new
logic, see http://www.lowth.com/rope/BlockingEDonkey2000.

For documentation, tutorial, dowloads and sample scripts, vist the ROPE
project home page at: http://www.lowth.com/rope.
