Subject: Advanced Bash Scripting Guide: version 3.5 update

Announcing the version 3.5 release of the "Advanced Bash Scripting Guide."
This e-book tutorial and reference is the equivalent of a 668-page
print book. With 316 illustrative examples (including such goodies as an
anti-spammer script), the book covers virtually every aspect of scripting.

This e-book contains printable reference cards, just like commercially
available computer tutorials.

The author invites comparisons with *any* commercially printed book on
shell scripting. His aim was to write "best of category" documentation.

"This tutorial assumes no previous knowledge of
scripting or programming, but progresses rapidly toward an
intermediate/advanced level of instruction . . . all the while
sneaking in little snippets of UNIX wisdom and lore. It serves
as a textbook, a manual for self-study, and a reference
and source of knowledge on shell scripting techniques. The
exercises and heavily-commented examples invite active reader
participation, under the premise that the only way to really
learn scripting is to write scripts."
                -- from the Introduction

This means the book is *free* and freely distributable.

Gramps is genealogy software. Very interesting work! FN

========== Forwarded message ==========

The GRAMPS project is pleased to announce the release of GRAMPS 2.0.2.
This release provides performance improvements for large databases,
translation updates and many bug fixes.

Unfortunately for us, Sebastian V=C3=B6cking had to step down as our German
translator. Providing a language translation for GRAMPS can be a
considerable amount of work, and the development team would like to
thank Sebastian for considerable amount of effort he has contributed to
the project.

However, our German users should not despair. Anton Huber has
volunteered to take over the German translation and has put in an
amazing amount of effort in a very short period of time to provide a
full translation for 2.0.2.

Another factor that has helped us with this release is a new bug
tracking team headed by Trevor Rhodes. Trevor, along with help from
Jason Salaz and Kurt Weber, is helping us manage, track and prioritize
bug reports that we receive. This effort has helped us track down and
eliminate a lot of bugs in this release.

Version 2.0.2 -- the "Little fermented curd will do the trick" release
* Updated German translation (Anton Huber).
* Usability improvements for large databases.
* Bug fixes

Subject: Digital Room Correction 2.6.0

Hello,

Digital Room Correction 2.6.0 is available at:

http://freshmeat.net/projects/drc

Changes:

A new prefiltering curve based on the bilinear transformation has been
introduced. An improved windowing of the minimum phase filters used to
apply the target frequency response and the microphone compensation has
been implemented. A missing normalization of the minimum phase correction
filter has been added. A new logarithmic interpolation has been added to
the target transfer function computation. The new interpolation method
simplifies the definition of the target transfer functions. Small
improvements to the documentation and to the Octave scripts used to
generate the graphs have been applied. A new improved version of the
measurejack script has been included in the package. Some new sample
configuration files, including one approximating the ERB psychoacoustic
scale, have been added.

Bye,

Subject: Version 3.10 of HLA Adventure released for Linux

A new version of HLA Adventure has been released. The version number is
now 3.10.

Additions to this version include:

Bug fixes, a "talk to" command (allowing the player to communicate with
monsters in the game), the deletion of the "lk" command (to avoid
confusion with "talk", from the parser's point of view) and an expanded
"help" command display.

HLA Adventure can be downloaded freely from the websites below:

http://www.geocities.com/dunric/hlaadv.html

and

http://members.tripod.com/~panks/hlaadv.html

You may need to reload or refresh the webpage for the latest version of
HLA Adventure to be available for download. Sometimes browsers "cache"
the old saved files and make downloading them instantaneous. By
refreshing or reloading the webpage, it ensures that the browser only
downloads the latest version.

Sincerely,

Paul Panks

From: wcsnyder@gmail.com
Subject: RPSL GNU autotools-based build system, initial release

I am pleased to announce the initial release of RPSL (Rapid Prototyping
Shared Library). RPSL is a set of bash scripts and utility files that
coordinate the GNU autotools (automake, autoconf, libtool) and
pkg-config for C/C++ build automation. The scripts and procedures
define a system for building and linking libraries that supports
individual or small group development.

A single command (rpslSyncBuild) scans for source, writes Makefile.am's
and Configure.ac, and results in a conventional autotools tree ready
for the usual "configure, make, make install" build steps. RPSL knows
and implements the build procedures in the "Goat Book" with the
stipulation that the source tree be fairly conventional and that the
source code is largely platform independent.

The target audience is not so much GNU project developers, but rather
scientific and engineering software developers who want to exploit the
features of the autotools without manually crafting the input files.
RPSL is also useful for populating an autotools tree around existing
code for source distribution.

The distribution contains html documentation with a simple project that
demonstrates some of the features.

The RPSL home page is http://rpsl.sourceforge.net. This has a link 'Get
RPSL' to the sourceforge download page.

Send email about RPSL to wcsnyder@gmail.com.

Subject: liberror 2.0.16

liberror - Message Printing
(c) Henrik Theiling
Current Release: 2.0.16
Site: http://www.theiling.de/projects/liberror.html
License: freely distributable open source

This is a library for C and C++ that solves the allegedly
simply task of printing messages. Thus, it is essentially
a feature-rich substitute for fprintf(stderr,...)

Features include colours via ANSI mark-up, multiple error
streams, report files, automatic error number assignment,
filtering by number, subsystems and groups,
buffering with manual filtering and re-issuing, callbacks,
error counters, time stamping, and message styles.

The library was mainly developed for Unix, but is regularly used
and tested under Windos, too (with MSVC). For compilation, you
still need a Unix account, since some files are generated for
Windos under Unix.

There is also a command line tool 'eprintf', that implements
a shell interface to the library, so you can easily have nicely
coloured error messages from shell scripts now.

Enjoy!
