WITHIN THE FREE AND OPEN SOURCE (FOSS) MOVEMENT.
Linuxchix Africa was formed in 2004 by African women and for African women.=

is a chapter in Africa affiliated to Linuxchix worldwide. The aim of the
African chapter is to help toward building the critical mass of Linux skill=

among African women, and to advocate for the use of Free and Open Source
Software for the many community development challenges being faced by
Africans, especially African women.
The challenges of Africa are well documented, with HIV/AIDS representing th=
e
most significant development challenge of our times. Community development =
can
no longer be viewed in isolation but require multi-tiered, cross-sectoral, =
and
well-coordinated approaches that are aligned to Information and Communicati=
ons
Technology (ICT). Without ICT, communities get left behind and are unable t=
o
take advantage of the social and economic benefits that come with ICT. This
integration of ICT into social development programmes is often referred to =
as
eDevelopment, eHealth and eLearning and represent models of ICT interventio=
n
in development, health and education respectively.
With the advent of Free and Open Source Software, it has now become possibl=
e
to make software available to people who would otherwise not afford it. Wit=
h
FOSS, countries will no longer have to prioritise between poverty and the
digital divide. Also since women are the ones mostly affected by poverty an=
d
HIV/AIDS, it is relevant that they be properly tooled and positioned to mak=
e
that difference in their lives. Furthermore, ICT is still male dominated,
moreso the Open Source technical environment, so Linuxchix Africa will play=
a
role as a catalyst that will demystify FOSS to the people who stand to bene=
fit
the most from it.

femmes qui sont surtout affect=E9es par la pauvret=E9 et le VIH/SIDA c'est
elles quiont besoin desoutils qui neuvent changer leurs vies'. ICT est
toujours domine par les nommes donc l'Afrique de Linuxchix jouera
un r=F4le de catalyseur qui d=E9mystifiera FOSS aux gens qui pourrout en

Lineox Releases Lineox Enterprise Linux 4.0

Lineox has released today Lineox Enterprise Linux 4.0 which is built
from the source packages available from
ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/4/en/os/i386/SRPMS
Lineox has replaced some graphics files and changed or replaced some
other files mainly because of trademark issues while retaining full
compatibility. This release includes also updated packages which were
built from 28 source packages available from
ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/enterprise/4AS/en/os/SRPMS
Lineox expects to release the x86_64 version next week.
Because Fedora Core 3 and Beta 2 of the product on which Lineox
Enterprise Linux 4.0 is based were released almost simultaneously and
1216 of the 1398 packages in Beta 2 are exactly the same, Lineox
encourages Fedora Core 3 users to upgrade their "beta quality" Linux
to the stable version offered by Lineox.
Pricing and availability
A bittorent for CD binary iso files is available from Lineox download
page at http://www.lineox.net/download.php Please leave your download
client running after the download is complete (with ports 6881-6889
open) as your client will become part of the peer to peer bittorrent
network and reduce the load on our network mirrors. Most of the disk
images are also already available from our mirrors via http, ftp and
rsync. 4 CD-R set and DVD+D are available from Lineox at 14.90 Euros.

Linux distributions ranging from the first one to the predecessor of

The version 0.3.0 of Fail2Ban is available.
Fail2Ban is written in Python. It scans log files like /var/log/pwdfail
or /var/log/apache/error_log and bans IP that makes too much password
failures. It updates firewall rules to reject the IP address. Currently,
iptables, ipfwadm and ipfw are supported. Needs log4py.
