Subject: AntiRight Desktop Environment 2.0-pre12 Released
Version 2.0-pre12 of the AntiRight Desktop Environment has been
released. The AntiRight project is looking for contributors and
testers, so please download and help wherever possible.
AntiRight is a lightweight and scripted desktop environment which
currently uses the Motif toolkit. Development is carried out with a
minimalistic philosophy in mind. The software consists of a text
editor/viewer, a desktop panel, a sticky note utility, system
management panels, a file manager, a calculator interface, a
color/background selector, a command launcher, a simple help system,
an email and Web browser launcher, a theme selector, a preferences
utility, and a CD player. The desktop panel consists of a launcher
panel button, a screen lock button, 8 virtual desktop buttons, an
alarm utility, a command launcher, a clock, a user counter, a load
meter, and a mail checker.
AntiRight is based on a scripted and configurable architecture known
as the AntiRight Configuration Environment, or ACE. ACE provides a
simple meanse for defining the environment. The arshell utility is
used to implement the user interface of the desktop environment. It
is currently written in motif, but its design and API is simplistic,
lending it to easy interface changes. This version includes
arshell-x, an experimental version of arshell written using only xlib.
The arshell user interface is defined by its command line parameters.
This is in similar fasion to the dialog utility, but arshell is much
flexible. Arshell can be used in your own projects to obtain a
quickly designed and usable user interface. The core of the desktop
environment, ACE, is written using bash and awk code.
