Mandrake 10.0 (Official) box froze overnight. Needed a hard boot. Came up
and dropped me to a console. X Server fails to start. I can run
startx from a console but it won't boot into X.

Running /etc/init.d/dm -status returns

"dm dead bu subsys locked"

I'm guessing I've got an orphaned lock file somewhere?

Any ideas - google ain't no help.

Regards
Gordon
