Subject: GNU CLISP 2.33.1 (2004-05-22) bug fix release
Reply-To: sds@gnu.org
From: Sam Steingold <sds@gnu.org>

Common Lisp is a high-level, general-purpose programming language.
GNU CLISP is a Common Lisp implementation by Bruno Haible of Karlsruhe
University and Michael Stoll of Munich University, both in Germany.
It mostly supports the Lisp described in the ANSI Common Lisp standard.
It runs on most Unix workstations (Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD,
Solaris, Tru64, HP-UX, BeOS, NeXTstep, IRIX, AIX and others) and on
other systems (Windows NT/2000/XP, Windows 95/98/ME) and needs only
2 MB of RAM.
It is Free Software and may be distributed under the terms of GNU GPL,
while it is possible to distribute commercial proprietary applications
compiled with GNU CLISP.
The user interface comes in German, English, French, Spanish, Dutch
and Russian.
GNU CLISP includes an interpreter, a compiler, a debugger, CLOS,
a foreign language interface, sockets, i18n, fast bignums and more.
An X11 interface is available through CLX, Garnet, CLUE/CLIO.
GNU CLISP runs Maxima, ACL2 and many other Common Lisp packages.

More information at
  <http://clisp.cons.org/>,
  <http://www.gnu.org/software/clisp/> and
  <http://clisp.sourceforge.net/>.
Sources and selected binaries are available by anonymous ftp from
  <ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/clisp/>
and their mirrors.

Lineox Announces Support Prices, Migration Instructions from Red Hat
Linux 9

27. May. 2004

Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 is an enterprise level Linux distribution
with almost 5 years of planned support life. In the past Lineox has
provided updated program packages with feature enhancements, bug and
security fixes for free. The update service will be fee based
starting fall 2004. As an introductory offer, Lineox sells one
year update service licenses including free coverage until the end of
2004. The update service entitles you to all released errata updates.

Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0 is very similar Red Hat Linux 9, because
it is based off of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0. About 25% of RedHat 9
and RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0 are the same. Lineox Enterprise Linux
3.0 was built mostly from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 sources,
therefore upgrading from Red Hat Linux 9 is very easy and fast. In
some cases, it might even be possible to use Lineox Enterprise Linux
3.0 updates on Red Hat Linux 9 without the need to upgrade the rest of
the system. As security updates are released the Red Hat 9 packages
will be updated to Lineox 3.0.

Lineox targets mainly Red Hat Linux 9 users who were left without
support from Red Hat, Inc. on April 30. Many long time Linux users need
only a reliable, long lasting, and affordable source of updated packages
and that is what Lineox provides. Annual subscription fees start from
15 Euros per year for a single system, 5 Euros if the customer has
over 50 systems. For larger customers Lineox offers Enterprise
subscriptions starting from 3 Euros per system from 50 to 99 system
sites and 2000 Euros for unlimited site wide license.

To help Red Hat Linux 9 users upgrade, Lineox has made instructions
available on how to upgrade their systems to Lineox Enterprise Linux
using only command line tools, thus making the procedure easy to
deploy even remotely over a network and multiple systems at a time.

One former Red Hat Linux 9 administrator, Lucas Albers from Montana
State University of Bozeman Montana says "We upgraded our RedHat 9
boxes to Lineox 3.0 because it was a seamless upgrade. Fedora would
have been a poor choice, as we would have had to upgrade much too
quickly. Most of the major package versions for RedHat 9 and Lineox
3.0 were the same, so the upgrade was seamless. We have also used
Lineox to upgrade RedHat 9 on our computational servers, which we
couldn't take offline for a CD based upgrade. We used the apt based
upgrade to do a completely remote upgrade, with no interruption of
service. Lineox has been very helpful and quick to respond with any
questions we have had concerning upgrades on our existing systems.
Lineox supports a local apt repository so keeping systems up to date
is quick and easy, we can also use third party apt repositories that
are compatible with RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0, such as the dag
repository.
Our central library also upgraded their servers from RedHat 9 to Lineox
3.0 and have been very happy with the process. Their pricing is very
economical, service is great, and system upgrades have been seamless.
Most of the tools work the same as RedHat 9, so it has been very fast
learning curve. I recommend Lineox to any companies/institutions
looking for a cheap, reliable, and low maintenance replacement for
RedHat 9."
