 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Addison-Wesley Announces Publication of Second Edition of "Cocoa(R)
Programming for Mac(R) OS X", by Aaron Hillegass

Upper Saddle River, NJ (May 5, 2004) - Addison-Wesley, the leading
publisher of advanced technology books, announces the publication of the
Second Edition of "Cocoa(R) Programming for Mac(R) OS X", updated for Xcode
and Mac OS X 10.3 and including several new chapters, while keeping with the
acclaimed First Edition's objective to help developers best utilize Apple's
powerful suite of Cocoa tools.

The Second Edition likewise benefits from the invaluable feedback that
Hillegass has accumulated from teaching more than a dozen classes, using
this book as the text, at Big Nerd Ranch. In addition, Hillegass has written
five new chapters, including:

 1) Chapter 7 describes how to add undo capabilities to an application using
NSUndoManager

2) Chapter 28 shows how to make an application AppleScript-able

3) Chapter 29 shows how to use OpenGL calls within a Cocoa application

4) Chapter 30 shows how to create a reusable framework

5) Chapter 31 instructs on how to create Cocoa applications on Linux using
GNUstep

To see a complete table of contents, visit:

http://www.awprofessional.com/title/0321213149

Hillegass' approach is to guide readers through the key features of Cocoa by
detailing the creation of six applications and an Interface Builder palette.
He emphasizes design patterns, to help the reader predict the behavior of
unfamiliar classes, and skillfully introduces several new ideas through each
of these projects. As each new concept/technique arises, Hillegass refers to
his own experience to instruct the reader on the optimal way to make use of
it.

Author Aaron Hillegass, who worked at NeXT and Apple, teaches popular Cocoa
programming classes at Big Nerd Ranch. This book is based on his Big Nerd
Ranch coursework, and benefits from more than a decade of his work with
OpenStep, the Cocoa predecessor, and of course, Cocoa, itself.
