PeerSec Networks Releases MatrixSSL Embedded Security Solution
Bellevue, Washington Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - PeerSec Networks LLC, a
leading provider of secure device management software, announced today the
release of MatrixSSL 1.0, a dual-licensed Secure Sockets Layer (SSL/TLS)
implementation unique in the embedded marketplace.
"PeerSec is focused on providing solutions for secure device management",
said J Harper, CEO of PeerSec Networks. "Our embedded SSL library,
MatrixSSL, enables standards based network security on even the smallest
device. Current implementations of SSL are too large for the embedded
market. MatrixSSL enables an entirely new class of devices to ship with a
full security implementation. The compact footprint of MatrixSSL frees up a
considerable amount of resources for new functionality in embedded devices."
MatrixSSL is less than 50 KB including cipher suites. The product includes
TLS and SSLv3 client and server support, X.509 certificate authentication,
fast session resumption, and implementations of RSA, AES, 3DES, ARC4, SHA1,
and MD5.
MatrixSSL is not dependent on any specific transport layer, operating
system, or hardware configuration. It is designed to allow straightforward
integration with existing applications without threading, sockets or file
system constraints. MatrixSSL includes sample client and server
applications. PeerSec Networks also offers custom integration services if
customers have additional security requirements.
MatrixSSL is available now under either an open source GPL license or a
royalty free commercial license to maximize the adoption of security in
devices. The GPL license allows open source projects to freely incorporate
MatrixSSL into their application. The royalty free commercial license is
available for purchase and allows proprietary projects to incorporate
MatrixSSL. The commercial license includes the government standardized
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) cipher and IETF ratified Transport Layer
Security (TLS) as well as Quick Start Integration support and security
updates. A free download of MatrixSSL is available on the open source
project site at http://www.matrixssl.org.
ABOUT PEERSEC NETWORKS
PeerSec Networks was founded in 2002 to provide a software solution that
combines security, Web services, and presence based messaging to solve
current challenges in device management. With PeerSec Networks' software,
devices can provide authenticated, secure management features through public
networks, WiFi hotspots and unknown network topologies. MatrixSSL is part
of PeerSec Networks' Device Web Services product suite.

Subject: sysstat-5.0.3 - System performance tools for Linux
Hi everybody,
Various fixes and improvements have been included in this new stable sysstat
release (see ChangeLog below for details).
Also remember that beginning with sysstat 5.0.2, iostat can look again for
extended statistics in /proc/partitions if available.
Sysstat 5.0.x can be used with *all* Linux kernels, including recent,
cutting-edge 2.6.x ones.
Sysstat 5.0.3 is available for download from my web page at:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/sebastien.godard/
It is also available on ibiblio's Linux archive site:
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/system/status/
118kB sysstat-5.0.3.tar.gz
96kB sysstat-5.0.3.tar.bz2
121kB sysstat-5.0.3-1.src.rpm
85kB sysstat-5.0.3-1.i386.rpm
The sysstat utilities are a collection of performance monitoring tools for
Linux. These include sar, mpstat, iostat and sa tools.
Feedback always welcomed . Send your remarks and comments to:
<sysstat[at]wanadoo[dot]fr>.
To learn some more about sysstat, check out
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/sebastien.godard/
Enjoy!
Changes vs 5.0.2 are:
* iostat now reads the number of sectors in /proc/diskstats or from sysfs as
64-bit unsigned values.
* iostat and mpstat now read CPU data and the number of interrupts in
/proc/stat as 64-bit unsigned values.
* sar uses "%u" instead of "%d" to read unsigned integer values _everywhere_.
* sar and sadc are now a little bit more verbose when dealing with invalid
activity files.
* Network interface name size is now read from include file <net/if.h>.
* FAQ polished up.
* Slovak translation added. NLS updated.
* Typo fixed in iostat manual page.
* Makefile and CREDITS file updated.
* isag upgraded to version 1.26 (isag package release 0.81.0).

Linux Professionals:
The May 2004 issue of Linux Magazine (http://www.linux-mag.com) will be
available on newsstands beginning April 13th.
May's feature stories introduce Subversion 1.0, take an in-depth look
at open role-playing games, and review the state of Linux on the
PowerPC processor architecture.
In addition, the May issue of Linux Magazine adds two new monthly
columns: Law student and MBA Nicholas Well's "On the Docket" focuses on
legal issues, such as vendor indemnity and flavors of open source
licenses, while MySQL guru Jeremy Zawodny pens "Advanced MySQL". The
new columns join Randal Schwartz's clever "Perls of Wisdom", Jerry
Peek's instructive "Power Tools", Rod Smith's system administration
"Guru Guidance", and more than eight other columns focused on putting
Linux to work.
A table of contents appears below.
Back issues of Linux Magazine are available for free (registration not
required) at http://www.linux-mag.com. The magazine is available on

The "Other" Linux by Dan Burcaw
Move over, Intel. Linux and PowerPC are in the fast lane. Linux on
Intel is driving the commoditization of computing. But it's not the
only game in town, nor is it the only combination of software and
hardware with influence. Linux also runs on PowerPC processors --
including IBM's POWER series, Apple's G5, and other embeddable cores --
and runs well. Here's a look at the "other" Linux, the one that runs on
PPC.
Subversion 101 by William Nagel
The new open source version control promises to obsolete CVS. While CVS
is the de facto standard for revision control in the world of Open
Source, that doesn't mean CVS is popular or perfect. To some
developers, CVS is simply a necessary evil. But now there's an
alternative to CVS. Read on for a look at the just-released Subversion
1.0.
Brave New Worlds by Howard Wen
Open-source game developers work hard to play harder. A number of open
source projects, including WorldForge and NeL, are redefining the
frontiers of massively-multiplayer gaming. Take a peek at the games,
the gearheads, and the gizmos that make play work.

Subject: Samba-3 by Example
Prentice Hall PTR has just published my latest book, "Samba-3 By Example",
which is the follow-on companion book to "The Official Samba-3 HOWTO and
Reference Guide", which PH PTR published last November.
I wrote this book in response to demand for real-worked examples of Samba
configuration files. Before writing this book I conducted extensive market
research to discover what information would be most helpful to network
administrators.
The Samba-3 by Example book presents a number of real networks, each fully
documented from the network requirements perspective, discussion of technical
and political issues, and then provides a detailed installation guide. Each
installation guide starts with a freshly installed Linux system and covers
complete network configuration including DHCP, DNS, Samba, OpenLDAP, Windows
XP desktops (including roaming profiles and folder redirection) and is
packaged with a CD that includes the config files as well as some useful
tools and utilities. Samba-3 by Example may be purchased from:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0131472216/qid%3D1077225188/sr%3D11-1/
ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-8804968-9612156
These books are part of the official Samba-3 documentation and were fully
committed to the Samba-Docs code repository on April 5th. The Official
Samba-3 HOWTO and Reference Guide is known as the Samba-HOWTO-Collection
and is available from the Samba.Org web site in both PDF and HTML formats. The
Samba-3 by Example PDF and HTML documents will be available by April 14th.
