NO STARCH PRESS TO SPONSOR CODECON 2004:
One of the Few True Hacker Conferences

San Francisco, CA - For the second year in a row, No Starch Press will
sponsor CodeCon (www.codecon.org). Internationally recognized as the
premier showcase of innovative software development projects, CodeCon
attracts many of the Internet's most prominent developers. The 2004
conference takes place February 20 through 22 in San Francisco, California.

Founded in February 2002, following the infamous "dotcom crash," by
technologists Bram Cohen (creator of Bittorrent) and Len Sassaman (Internet
privacy and anonymity expert), CodeCon has redefined standards for quality
technical conferences.

"It is a pleasure to once again have No Starch Press sponsor CodeCon," says
conference producer Len Sassaman. "Our attendees find great value in the
timely and high-quality books published by No Starch."

"CodeCon may well be my favorite conference. It's all content and no fluff.
You really get the sense that you're in the thick of things, and the list
of presenters is very cool. I hear they might even serve coffee this year,"
said fabulously uncool No Starch Press Publisher Bill Pollock.

CodeCon's program offers a prescient look at the direction of technology in
the digital era. CodeCon is the premier showcase of active hacker projects,
and a workshop for developers of real-world applications with working code
and active development projects. All presentations are given by one of the
active developers, and accompanied by a functional demo.

Pre-registration for CodeCon is recommended, and is $95 online or at the door.

ABOUT NO STARCH PRESS

ABOUT CODECON
2004 marks CodeCon's third year. CodeCon (www.codecon.org) is the premier
showcase of active software development projects, offering an excellent,
low-cost opportunity for programmers to meet and discuss the cutting edge
techniques being developed by the most creative members of their
profession. CodeCon 2004 takes place February 20 through 22 at Club NV, 525
Howard Street, in San Francisco.

Subject: Privoxy 3.0.3 is available

Hello,

This is to let you know that version 3.0.3 of Privoxy has been released
and is ready for download from http://www.privoxy.org/.

We hope you like the new release! As always, we are thankful for your
feedback and bug reports.

==========================================================================
About Privoxy:
==========================================================================

Privoxy is a web proxy with advanced filtering capabilities for
protecting privacy, modifying web page content, managing cookies,
controlling access, and removing ads, banners, pop-ups and other
obnoxious Internet junk. Privoxy has a very flexible configuration and
can be customized to suit individual needs and tastes. Privoxy has
application for both stand-alone systems and multi-user networks. It is
based on Internet Junkbuster (tm).

==========================================================================
Release Notes:
==========================================================================

This is the another maintenance release of Privoxy which fixes more
bugs, further refines the configuration and works around some known
third-party problems. Upgrading from 3.0.2 is recommended.

==========================================================================
ChangeLog for Version 3.0.3:
==========================================================================

- Fixed yet another two memory leaks. Process growth looks stopped now.
- Further tightened security against malicious toggle-off links.
- Excluded text/plain MIME types from filtering. This fixes a
   couple of client-crashing, download corruption and
   Privoxy performance issues, whose root cause lies in
   web servers labelling content of unknown type as text/plain.
- Assorted fixes for POSIX compliance, signal handling, graceful
   termination, compiler warnings, OSX support, Win32 systray,
   error logging, hostname wildcards, correct detection of NetBSD.
- Workarounds for client (iTunes etc) and server (PHP < 4.2.3) bugs
   including the notorious "blank page" problem.
- Various filter improvements; most notably the unsolicited-popups
   filter became less destructive
- Major revamp of the actions file

  NOTE TO UPGRADERS:
==========================================================================

 Upgrading from 3.0.2 shouldn't require any particular caution. Note,
 however, that you can dump any exceptions that you might have made in
 user.action to work around the (now-fixed) "blank page" problem.

 Upgraders from 3.0.0 should look out for the new (and gone!) filters, and
 adapt their custom configurations accordingly. Most notably, the "popups"
 filter is gone and has been replaced by two variants: "all-popups" that
 kills all popups, and the new "unsolicited-popups" which tries to spare
 the requested ones.
