Hello everyone,

I'm pleased to announce new TightVNC 1.2.9 release.

TightVNC is an improved version of VNC, free cross-platform remote
desktop package. It offers many new features, improvements and
bugfixes. TightVNC can be used to perform remote administration tasks
in Unix/Linux, Windows, and mixed network environments. It can be
useful in distance learning and remote customer support. TightVNC is
freely available under the terms of the GNU General Public License,
and is fully compatible with the standard VNC. For more details,
please visit the TightVNC Web site:

                    http://www.tightvnc.com/

Both Win32 and Unix/Linux versions exist. RPM packages for Red Hat
Linux 7.x are available (built and tested under Red Hat Linux 7.2).
To download new release, follow the links at the download page:

              http://www.tightvnc.com/download.html

As compared to the previous version, TightVNC 1.2.9 fixes a number of
major bugs. Also, Unix/Linux version includes an improved "vncpasswd"
utility.

Here is a summary of changes introduced in the Unix/Linux version of
TightVNC 1.2.9 (more detailed change logs are available on the
TightVNC Web site):

  - New "Request refresh" button has been implemented in the viewer's
    F8 popup menu.

  - New vncpasswd -f command-line option has been implemented. It
allows providing passwords on stdin and writes encrypted passwords
to stdout. In addition, the password file name "-" now denotes
stdout. Finally, a buffer overflow has been fixed in vncpasswd --
it could be caused by a long file name in the command line.

  - Xvnc compilation fixes for HP-UX and MacOS X have been applied,
    from Ki NETWORKS, Inc.

  - A patch to fix input focus problems in the X11 viewer has been
    applied.

  - A patch fixing Xvnc crashes on Sparc has been applied, from the
    RealVNC distribution.

  - A problem with incorrect port interpretation has been fixed, in
    the vncviewer's -tunnel option handling.

  - The Java viewer should allow passing through X keysyms for foreign
    currencies.

  - In the Java viewer, the problem with initial keyboard focus not
set to the desktop on some JVMs has been fixed.

  - Other minor improvements and bugfixes.

With Best Wishes,
Constantin
