HUMBUG, the Home Unix Machine Brisbane Users Group, exists to get
fellow Unix users in contact with each other, to introduce people
to Unix and Unix-like operating systems, and to help users in
operating those systems. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Meetings tend to be informal. We socialize, discuss Unix and
computing, solve Unix problems for new and experienced users
alike, and these days have regular talks.

unless they are going to use club services such as our
        network access during meetings.

Food: The eating places (ranging from take away to a la Carte)
at 'The Ville' are usually open until about 10pm Saturday
night. There is also the Pizza Cafe on-campus near the

(BoF) or "The Guru is In" sessions throughout the conference.

The SANE 2004 conference seeks original and innovative papers about
the applications, architecture, implementation, performance and
security of modern computing systems and networks. Papers that
analyze problem areas and draw important conclusions from practical
experience are especially welcome. Presentations are being solicited

KLocate is a highly configurable KDE front end to the standard Linux
slocate utility, which uses index files to quickly locate files by
path and name.
Klocate dramatically enhances slocate's usability by allowing targetted
searchs as well as an easy management of index files for local and
remote file systems, including offline collections of removable drives,
CDROMs and data DVDs.
KLocate makes a distinction between read-write and readonly volumes
for a more accurate management of index files, sorts output and avoids
unnecessary long match lists.
Comparing to previous release 0.23, KLocate 0.24 contains some bug
fixes, more functionality and comfort of use (see Changelog).
You won't have to rescan your volumes to upgrade
from previous versions, since all DBs are still slocate standard.
You'll need KDE 2.1 or later 2.x installed (libs and support) to install
and use klocate-0.24.2.
You'll need KDE 3.03 or later 3.x installed (libs and support) to
install and use klocate-0.24.
Of course that does not mean that KDE Kdesktop must be your window
manager !
(Rather give a try to Afterstep)

KLocate is GPL.

I hope it will save you time and headaches.

Subject: GLLUG Installfest
Date: 14 Jun 2003 02:35:16 GMT

The Greater London Linux User Group is set to have an Install Fest.

 Date: 21st June 2003
 Time: 12:00noon - 5:00pm
Location: Westminster University (New Cavendish Street campus)

We will be meeting in the New Cavendish Street campus of Westminster
University. This is in the shadow of the BT Tower, the nearest tube stations
are Great Portland Street, Warren Street and Goodge Street. You will find a
map at [ http://www.wmin.ac.uk/static/maps.asp ] or via www.streetmap.co.uk

NOTE: you will need to sign in at the front desk to gain access to the
building. There are building works at the moment but we'll post signs if the
entrance has moved.

Schedule

TBA - A screening of "Revolution OS" is in the works, and will be shown in the
last half of the meeting. A speaker was scheduled but after review of their
schedule a cancellation was needed. Don't worry the search continues and we
should have a definite schedule by next week.

Other activities

Away from the formal lectures, we have two rooms set aside, both on the second
floor, same level as main lecture room.

The network lab, as it is known, can be used for rolling demos of Linux being
installations and to experiment with configuration.

We also have the Multimedia room. This will be used for people to set is up
their own machines. You can do this if you have something to show off, or you
are looking for a solution to some problems. If your are bringing in your own
machine, make sure you sign it in when you arrive, otherwise security won't
let you take it when you go! We'll have monitors, keyboards, mice, and
powerleads available. [So no need to lug all that stuff].

We will have access to some of the latest iso images and a CD-Burner.

If you decide to bring a PC, please have the serial number written down ahead
of time, in case it needs to be registered at the ground floor Reception. We
may also take a picture of you and your PC as proof of ownership.

The network lab and the multimedia room are the places you can go to, should
you be looking for sanctuary away from the formal talks. If we're lucky the
Refectory on the ground floor will have its food and drinks machines
restocked.

After

After the meeting, for those that want, the group will move off to 'The Green
Man' public house, very close to Great Portland Street. We have it booked
from 5:30pm, downstairs. Even if you were unable to make the daytime meeting,
please feel free to join us at the pub. To help you find the pub have a look
at this external streetmap link.

Announcing wxWindows 2.4.1: a cross-platform GUI toolkit
================================================================

June 13th, 2003 -- the wxWindows team is pleased to announce
an official 2.4.1 release of the mature cross-platform C++
application framework.

The following platforms are supported:

- Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP
- Linux/Unix with GTK+ 1.x and 2.0
- Linux/Unix with X11
- Linux/Unix with Motif/Lesstif
- VMS with GTK+ 1.x
- MacOS 8.6, 9.x and 10.x
- OS/2 (alpha release)

A non-GUI subset of wxWindows called wxBase is also supported
on most of these platforms.

To get wxWindows, go to the Download page at:

   http://www.wxwindows.org

This is a bug-fix release. Improvements include
better border and theme handling under Windows XP,
additional XRC resource types, and removal of
some memory leaks.

*** About wxWindows

wxWindows is a comprehensive open-source, multi-platform C++ GUI
framework, that can be used to build commercial and free
software. First released in 1992, it's increasingly used by
organisations and individuals all over the world due to its
winning combination of sophistication, wide platform coverage,
ease of use, unrestrictive licence and vibrant user community.

For most ports, wxWindows adopts the native look and feel of
each platform since it uses the native widget sets. There is also
a generic widget set, used for the wxX11 port - no other widget set
is required, giving the potential for embedded use.

An extraordinary range of classes is provided - but don't be put
off by this because most people find wxWindows easier to learn
and use than MFC and other frameworks.

As well as comprehensive support for the usual widgets, advanced
features include: HTML viewing/printing, wxImage class providing
handlers for eading and writing many image types, resizeable panels
and dialogs on all platforms, document/view, OpenGL support,
HTML-based and context-sensitive help, wizards, drag and drop,
a grid class, ODBC support, threads, sockets, container classes,
a styled text control, and much more. An 1800-page reference manual
is provided in HTML, MS HTML Help, WinHelp, wxWindows Help and PDF
formats, and there are over 70 samples and demos.

If you're an MFC user, you'll find many wxWindows concepts
reassuringly familiar, while often clearer and more consistent.
If you're not, you should still find it intuitive from the start.

wxWindows bindings for several other languages are available,
including Python, Perl, Basic, Lua, JavaScript and Eiffel.

Linux Journal and the UK's PC Plus magazine.

Have fun!

=====

A small selection of the comments from the Feedback page:

"wxWindows 2.xx has been an absolute dream; putting together a
nice interface has been quite easy, and I'm especially pleased
that I can do most of our development on *nix with confidence
that only minor issues will have to get cleaned up when we build
on Windows."

"I use wxWindows as a GUI Toolkit for Python. Its stability,
flexibility and speed are the base of industrial strength
cross-platform GUI application design with interpreted languages
like Python. Porting is child's play. Thanks for this great
piece of software!"

"Excellent, stable and intuitive API. Very straightforward to
learn and easy to port Java, X11 and Win32 code to."

"Thanks heaps for the best piece of software I've ever come
across (wxWindows)."
