========== Forwarded message ==========

==================================================================

We are happy to announce the release of Sarovar.org to the world!

Sarovar.org is a portal for hosting FLOSS projects, similar to
sourceforge or Savannah. As far as we are aware it is India's first
and only site to offer such facilities. Sarovar.org has all the
features that you will expect from such a site, including web space,
mail lists, cvs etc.

The root of the idea to have such a site can be traced back to the
Indic computing meeting at Bangalore, where there was a desire to have
some hosting space for Indic computing projects. We had some
discussions about it back in Trivandrum and we thought we can make
such a space for developers in India for hosting their work. The
result is sarovar.org.

Sarovar.org is a Compaq machine running Debian Woody and a customized
gforge. It is hosted in Trivandrum and connected to BSNL, VSNL and
SingTel. All the traffic from it should come without leaving
India. We are also planning to mirror some important sites right here,
including Linux kernel and mail lists. We are also open to other ideas
to use this resource. Please let me know if you have any.

Please feel free to pass this news to other lists or people who might
also be interested in such a facility.

With warm regards,

Radhakrishnan

Subject: Obelix./.MobiliX - Linux on Mobile Computers, details about the appeal

Obelix./.MobiliX:
details about the appeal to the highest German civil court

On May 27th 2003 Prof. Dr. Achim Kraemer has send a detailed request to
permit an appeal to the highest German civil court the Bundesgerichtshof -
BGH.

The new German civil law allows only a very few cases for an appeal to the
BGH. There must for example general public interests strongly be
concerned. In his long and detailed argumentation Prof. Dr. Kraemer
writes: "The commercial usage of domain names leads already at the time of
their registration to preventive reactions by holders of older trademarks,
which claim their trademarks as violated. Particular risks exist for
so-called word-trademarks, which contain parts of the common language, if
they are combined with suffixes or prefixes used in certain groups. If
trademarks are protected to much excessive, as the appeal court has done
in our opinion, some very famous but fancy names may occupy a wide range
of the language and it will become impossible for others to create new
word-trademarks." A decision of the BGH to permit the appeal is expected
at the end of 2003. A final verdict will probably not be available until
2005.

In autumn 2001 Les Edition Albert Rene, the owner of the trademark Obelix
has charged Werner Heuser. He is the owner of the wellknown open source
project MobiliX ( now TuxMobil http://tuxmobil.org ) . This project
provides a plenty of information about UniX operating systems like Linux,
BSD and Solaris on mobile computers. Therefore he has choosen a name,
which expresses this by a combination of the words "Mobile" and "iX".
According to the plaintiff he has choosen a word very similar to their
trademark Obelix, because he wants to take advantage of their famous name.

A detailed documentation of the case, containing information about other
projects under siege and the written statements of the lawyers JBB
http://jbb.de , is available online
http://tuxmobil.org/mobilix_asterix.html

At the 4th Libre Software Meeting Metz (France) July 2003 Werner Heuser
will give a talk about the case

Subject: ITShield Firewall based on Linux is released
Date: 29 May 2003 00:05:01 GMT

ITShield Networks Inc.(http://www.itshield.com) has released a
wonderful firewall - ITShield Firewall:

ITShield Firewall, a transparent firewall, contains the advantages of
all three critical firewall architectures - packet-filtering, Stateful
Inspection, and application gateway firewall. By using some advanced
technologies, ITShield Firewall can handle more than 5000 TCP
sessions, unlimited UDP sessions, and unlimited IP sessions at
application-level in parallel. Because application proxy provides the
highest level of security and flexibility, ITShield Firewall handles
all the sessions in application-level by default. Furthermore,
ITShield Firewall can drop the unwanted requests at packet level. If
the high-speed network traffic keeps the firewall very busy, the
administrator can enable Stateful Inspection.

ITShield Firewall supports PPTP VPN and IPSEC VPN. It is very easy for
you to configure them.

You can use ITShield Firewall for free before Jan 1, 2004.

From: will 18 <will@opaline.demon.co.uk>
Subject: blackhome-0.3.2.1 - blackbox wm theme manager
Date: 29 May 2003 00:05:05 GMT

Blackhome-0.3.2.1: a blackbox WM theme (un)installer and desktop design
tool for integrating apps and themes.

Requirements: blackbox (untested with 0.49.x; 0.50.2 up - tested to
0.65.0); GNU bash.

Blackhome provides a way to use blackbox themes with associated default
resource file sets for customisation of applications; each theme has its
own specific application resources, extending the theme concept to allow
individual applications to be 'themed'.

A utility is included to enable easy installation of blackbox themes and
images/pixmaps; uninstallation of these is supported via menu buttons.

Default resource files for some commonly-used applications are generated
automatically by the install utility; these can be customised to taste.

Colour resources are easily handled without manual editing of resource
files with resourceFileEditor, an application to assist you in harmonising
colours in your apps with those in your themes.

GTK themes are also supported, selected via menu buttons; these may if
required be either pre- or post-merged with the blackhome default GTK
resources, enabling GTK themes to be applied to gnome applications running
in the blackbox environment.

The generation of X applications' resource files for themes can be easily
modified to enable more applications to be supported, or for unwanted
support to be removed.

Two themes are provided as examples, 'alpha 'and 'omega'.

Subject: bogofilter-0.13.3 available
Date: 29 May 2003 02:45:01 GMT

Bogofilter version 0.13.3 has been released on SourceForge. This is a
minor bugfix release.

In addition to the usual source tarball and rpm, this release includes:

bogofilter-0.13.3-1.i586.rpm contains dynamically linked binaries that
require glibc-2.3.

bogofilter-static-0.13.3-1.i586.rpm contains statically linked binaries
named bogofilter_static, bogolexer_static, bogoutil_static. When
installed, symlinks are created so old names ( bogofilter, bogolexer, and
bogoutil ) can be used.

The big change for bogofilter-0.13.0 is in message parsing. Improvements
suggested by Paul Graham were tested, found to be useful, and have been
added. File RELEASE.NOTES-0.13 has more info.
