financial and central banking issues in the Caribbean) while enhancing
efforts in the area of central bank training, and the creation of a
specialist regional repository of information. The CCMS has since
evolved to include the improvement of the Caribbean's research and
forecasting capabilities, permitting better responses to the rapidly
changing Caribbean environment. The Centre's web site is at

About the Trinidad and Tobago Linux Users Group:
The Trinidad and Tobago Linux Users Group was founded in 1999 with the
goal of learning and teaching ourselves and others about open source
software (including the Linux kernel and the GNU/Linux utilities). We
promote Open Source Software in Trinidad and Tobago by demonstrating
to those within the public and private sectors that open source
software is not only a cost effective solution, but is also in many
instances a better technical solution. We also educate members and the
general public concerning the availability and benefits of using and
working with Open Source Software. Finally, we offer a forum on which
IT professionals can meet and discuss the benefits of open source
technology with other professionals, who can offer support to and deal
with different aspects of open source in different sectors. The
TTLUG's online home is at http://www.ttlug.org .

Constant Data Completes Comprehensive Testing Under
IBM’s TotalStorage™ Proven Program
UPDATE: March 10, 2003 – Constant Data, Inc.(www.constantdat.com), a leading
provider of high availability storage software for the enterprise server
market, today announced that its Constant Replicator™ product has
successfully completed comprehensive interoperability testing with IBM
xSeries servers running Linux using IBM TotalStorage FAStT storage products
and has earned IBM TotalStorage Proven.
The IBM TotalStorage Proven program builds on IBM’s already extensive
interoperability efforts to develop and deliver products and solutions that
work together with third party products.
"This program provides Constant Data with pre-tested solutions and
configurations to simplify the adoption of our continuous real-time data
replication technology for Linux," said Paul Sustman, President & CEO of
Constant Data. “Our participation in the program demonstrates that Constant
Data and IBM are working together to increase customer satisfaction by
promoting greater interoperability.”
The hybrid replication technology of the Constant Replicator product line
allows businesses that run in open operating system environments that
presently include Linux, Solaris and AIX to keep one or more up-to-date hot
spare copies of critical data online and offsite. Constant Replicator
reliably mirrors any size file system over any IP network, increasing the
availability of an organization's irreplaceable information.
“The TotalStorage Proven program is an important means for our customers to
have confidence in the solutions that we provide for them to run their
business,” said Jaime Gmach, President of Evolving Solutions, Inc., an IBM
TotalStorage Solution Center and IBM Premier Business Partner. “Since the
products we selected had been pre-tested for interoperability, we also had a
higher comfort level that these components work together, simplifying our
customer’s installation and implementation.”
“With the increased visibility of Constant Data’s solutions to the IBM
Business Partner and sales representative community, Constant Data can have
greater visibility with customers and look towards smoother, reliable
implementations. This can lead to reduced sales cycles and ultimately
increasing customer satisfaction,” said Kathleen Smith, Vice President for
Emerging Business Markets, IBM Systems Group.
The IBM TotalStorage Proven program supports the ability of Independent
Software Vendors (ISVs) to build high-quality solutions with the latest
technology on leading storage platforms as well as reduce solution design
time when multiple, tested building blocks have already been pre-tested.
About Constant Data
Constant Data, Inc. delivers scalable, high availability storage management
software focused on enterprise data protection and distribution. We develop
real-time hybrid replication and automated fail-over solutions for
heterogeneous server and operating environments. Constant Data's product set
presently runs on Linux, Solaris and AIX and is rapidly expanding to support
all open operating system environments. Constant ReplicatorTM is the
industry's first continuous real-time data replication solution for the
Linux server market.

The New York Linux Users Group presents
Paul DesOrmeaux of RealNetworks
- Helix DNA, the First Open Source Digital Video Platform -
March 19, 2003
Wednesday
6:30pm-8:00pm
IBM Headquarters Building
590 Madison Avenue at 57th Street
9th Floor, home to the IBM Linux Center of Competency
** RSVP Instructions**
Unless you have already rsvp'ed for a prior meeting, everyone
should RSVP to attend. http://rsvp.nylug.org
Check in with photo ID at the lobby for badge and room number.
One of the most positive and significant legacies of the dotcom boom was the
profiliferation of broadband to the home. Even though this "last mile" is
now widely installed, there has been no viable open source platform to deliver
digital media. In fact, we have all seen competing proprietary media players
grapple over a video file once we've clicked on it. The game changed forever
when RealNetworks open sourced its core technology, called Helix, this past
fall.
Join us as Paul DesOrmeaux of RealNetworks and Mark Murphy of Collabnet present
the Helix DNA Platform, a collaborative effort between RealNetworks, independent
developers, and leading companies to create and extend the first open platform
for digital media delivery.
Helix DNA is source code and a comprehensive project to accelerate the
development of digital media applications. Free source code distribution
to the community enables free software delelopers to solve problems that are
unique to them, while RealNetworks solves the problems that are common to everyone,
such as providing standards-compliant media encoding, transport, and
playback.
The Helix DNA is comprised of three components:
* Helix DNA Client, for media playback
* Helix DNA Server, for media distribution and streaming
* Helix DNA Producer, for media encoding
Source Code Licenses
Helix DNA is made available under two licenses. The first is the RealNetworks
Public Source License (RPSL), which has been submitted to the Open Source
Initiative for certification as an open source license. It allows you to use
and distribute the Helix DNA for free. However, any applications you make with
the Helix DNA must be made available as open source themselves. The second
is the RealNetworks Community Source License (RCSL), which is more like a
traditional commercial source code license.
About Paul DesOmeaux
Based in NYC, Paul DesOrmeaux has been a Senior Systems Engineer with
RealNetworks for six years. RealNetworks is the pioneer of streaming media
and the leader in the delivery multimedia over IP based networks. The
RealPlayer, which is based on the Helix Client DNA, is one of the most
popular client applications ever written, with over 750 Million unique users.
About Mark Murphy
Mark Murphy is a Senior Systems Consultant with CollabNet, which provides
the SourceCast system that powers HelixCommunity.org.
