DinoStor and Reliaty Team Up to Deliver Network Data Protection Solutions
Reliaty Backup and DinoStor TapeServer combine for easy, cost-effective
network backup operations
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – January 14, 2003 – DinoStor™, a pioneer in network
enabled backup solutions, and Reliaty, a prominent developer of advanced
data protection solutions, today announced mutual certification for Reliaty
Backup and for DinoStor TapeServer.
With DinoStor TapeServer and Reliaty Backup, enterprises can create an
easy-to-deploy and manage storage solution that is less expensive to operate
than traditional storage methods. Customers can use TapeServer to attach
tape backup devices to gigabit Ethernet and back up to them via Reliaty
Backup. The combination of Reliaty Backup and DinoStor TapeServer enables
users to take advantage of distance and speed enhancements by attaching tape
storage devices on a network instead of directly to a dedicated server. This
storage management solution is easy to deploy and manage, and less expensive
to operate.
Reliaty Backup is the first data protection solution that allows backup and
recovery of data from any point within a storage environment to any device,
regardless of the server and storage platforms or location of the
connections. It is the only data protection solution to offer this seamless
methodology for multiplatform environments, creating a new level of cost
savings, ease-of-use, and faster data recovery.
DinoStor TapeServer is the first product in the market that allows users to
share backup devices among servers on the Ethernet easily and inexpensively,
with SAN-like performance without a SAN.
"Reliaty wanted to follow its philosophy of backup and recovery from any
point in a network and offer customers with escalating backup needs an
alternative to attaching tape storage to the network, without the expense
and problems of dedicating a server," explained Jim Ward, president of
Reliaty. "Once attached to the network, users can improve backup
performance, and, sharing resources on the network reduces cost."
"We are privileged that Reliaty has certified our TapeServer," said Srini
Sankaran, CEO of DinoStor. "DinoStor wants to make it easy for users of
network storage management software to use backup devices on the network,
and our teaming with Reliaty has taken a large step in that direction."
About Reliaty
Reliaty delivers the industry's first data protection software founded on
NDMP to safeguard vital enterprise information and ensure business
continuity. Reliaty is a leader in the NDMP Backup Working Group, defining

WI-FI MADE SIMPLE: From shopping for parts to making it all secure
No Starch Press Releases “The Book of Wi-Fi”
San Francisco, CA—No Starch Press, the publisher that makes computing fun
and accessible, has released “The Book of Wi-Fi” (by John Ross, $29.95,
ISBN 188641145X). This practical and plain-English guide to wireless
networking discusses the entire process of setting up and using 802.11b in
the home or office.
Wireless technology has come a long way, but it still has its quirks and
problems. “Unfortunately, the current state of Wi-Fi design is still
confusing—setting up a Wi-Fi network and configuring a computer to use the
network involves a lot of obscure jargon and setup options that can
challenge the novice. And these challenges aren't always consistent from
one brand of hardware and software to another,” explains John Ross, author
“The Book of Wi-Fi.” “My goals with this book is to clear up that
confusion, help new users get their networks up and running, and explain
how to connect to public networks. I also want to help my readers
understand how Wi-Fi works, so they can troubleshoot their own networks.”
Despite these challenges, Wi-Fi is gaining mass appeal. High-speed Internet
access has never been so affordable, and hardware prices are plunging. “I
got my SMC wireless router two years ago for about $400,” says John Mark
Walker, Marketing Manager at No Starch Press. “Now you can get everything
you need for less than $200.” Too, the number of public hot spots is
increasing, making it more convenient for people with Wi-Fi equipped
laptops and PDAs to get online from hotels, airports, conference centers,
and coffee shops. More than 2,000 Starbucks locations nation wide now offer
wireless to their customers.
“The Book of Wi-Fi” shows non-technical people how to:
* Choose the best place to set up access points to improve their network’s
performance
* Extend their network to offer wireless to their entire neighborhood
* Design and use point-to-point wireless network links to move data across
several miles
* Find public networks and surf the Internet from hotels, conference
centers, and airport passenger terminals
* Use sniffer tools to find unprotected wireless networks
* Secure access points with encryption, password protection, and virtual
private networks (VPNs)
“When it’s working properly, a wireless network should be invisible,” adds
Ross. “Nobody needs a wireless network; they need a way to read their
e-mail and browse the Internet at relatively high speed.” With “The Book of
Wi-Fi,” this complex technology is made simple and accessible to even the
beginning computer user.
“The Book of Wi-Fi” was technically reviewed by Mike Kershaw, an expert in
the Wi-Fi community and author of Kismet--an Open Source 802.11 sniffer tool.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
JOHN ROSS has been writing about computers, data networks, and radio
communication for over 20 years, and has written more than two dozen books.
He has worked as a consultant on wired and wireless networking for several
manufacturers, including Motorola and AT&T.
