CACHÉ Database to be Offered on Mac OS X

                   InterSystems Gearing Up To Deliver
Post-relational Enterprise Database Software On Mac Platform
__________________________________________________________________________________________

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—December 9, 2002—InterSystems Corporation today
announced that the high performance CACHÉ database will be available on
the Mac OS X platform early in 2003. A favorite technology choice for
developers building innovative transaction processing applications on
Windows, UNIX and Linux platforms, post-relational CACHÉ features an
advanced object database as well as robust SQL and a multidimensional
database engine.

“With CACHÉ, Macintosh developers will finally have the ability to build
and deploy massively scalable high performance applications across even
the largest enterprise,” says Robert Nagle, InterSystems director of
software development. “CACHÉ is the database software professional
developers select when they’re creating new Web applications that push
the curve for transaction processing performance and scalability…the
applications for which legacy relational databases simply can’t deliver
optimum results because of their static two-dimensional design.”

Industry experts view the synergy between CACHÉ and the Macintosh
platform as likely to deliver positive results. “Mac developers are
noted for delivering user-friendly object-oriented applications,
especially in the creative arts and education, but difficulties in
accessing scalable relational databases are a prime cause of the Mac’s
inability to take its fair share of corporate desktops. By using the
‘post-relational’ architecture of CACHÉ, which enables developers to
build both SQL and object-based systems that are high performance on an
enterprise scale, these developers can provide applications that link
Mac end users’ creativity with enterprise customer and supply-chain data
for competitive-advantage innovation,” notes Wayne Kernochan, senior
vice president of Aberdeen Group, a leading Boston-based market research
firm.

Enterprise Functionality On the Way

Going far beyond the typically limited feature sets of database products
currently available for Mac OS X, CACHÉ provides the sophisticated
functionality needed for enterprise applications.

Highlights of the product will include:

   * Real-time Data Analytics—New Transactional Bit Map Index technology
provides the query performance benefits of advanced indexing
technology with update performance equal to that of traditional
indexes. CACHÉ is the first database provider to deliver real-time
     data analytics for transaction processing.

   * CACHÉ Web Services—Built-in support for Web Services, without
requiring a separate application server or other complications.
CACHÉ is fully compatible with both .NET and Java frameworks for
     Web Services.

   * CACHÉ Enterprise Java—Another breakthrough in database technology,
CACHÉ automates Bean Managed Persistence, making it easy for
developers to work with Java Enterprise Edition while enabling very
     high performance.

   * CACHÉ Enterprise Cache Protocol (ECP)—Including a new distributed
concurrency engine and support for massive distributed cache
memory, ECP delivers top-tier performance and scalability for
     multi-server configurations.

CACHÉ pricing for Mac OS X is expected to start at US$200 in a
single-user version and about US$1,000 for a multi-user configuration.

FYI The Fargo Moorhead area now has a Linux Users Group(LUG). What is a
LUG you say. Well a LUG is a place were you can go and get help and
information on using the Linux operating system in your local community.
The url for the LUG is http://fmlug.org check it out and let us know
what you think. We have a forum and mailing lists for you to use. Also
we have a section called tips and tricks were you can learn how to use
some of Linux more advanced features. If you don't need help and have
been using Linux for awhile and think you can help others or have an
idea for article join the mailing list and let us know.

Thanks

From: ckwu@cheerful.com (C K Wu)
Subject: CK-Ledger v.0.4.1 released
Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 09:58:03 CST

A new major release, v.0.4.1, of CK-Ledger, has been posted at
SourceForge.Net, http://sourceforge.net/projects/ck-ledger. New
features include a new Bank Reconciliation module, embedded
installation manual, embedded features list and new icons for
idsociety theme.

Please note that Konqueror/KDE3/RedHat7.3 has problem accessing the
various features of CK-Ledger, while Konqueror/KDE3/RedHat8.0 and
other browsers have been tested to work fine under similar
circumstances. KDE/Mandrake 9.0 also functions properly.

CK-Ledger (with 13 modules, Ledger Admin, Ledger, Bank Reconciliation,
Inventory, Service, AP, AR, PO, SO, Quotation, POS for Cashier, POS
for Manager, HR) is modeled on an Open Source accounting software and
runs on top of phpGroupWare. Operating platform can either be LAMP or
LAPP. It provides accounting and back office functionalities to SMEs
and utilizes phpgw to administer accounts/groups. Installation Manual
and Features List are available at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ck-ledger (Just click on the [Docs]
label at the header menu line above the brief project description).
Please report error and suggestion to the mailing list,
ck-ledger-users@lists.sourceforge.net. General history and expected
development of CK-Ledger is available at the mailing list's Archive.
