Subject: CGIpaf 1.2.0 released
* What is CGIpaf?
"cgipaf" allows users to change their un*x Password, Autoreply and mail
Forwarding by a web interface.
CGIpaf 1.2.0 is the latest "stable" release.
CGIpaf is available at http://staf.patat.org/cgipaf/
Debian ( woody ) packages are available at http://staf.patat.org/debian/
* Requirements
o a Un*x server
o a mailserver that uses procmail
( vacation is supported by an external perl mailcfg script )
o webserver
o gcc, ndbm or gdbm
* License
GNU General Public License.
* Changelog
o version 1.2.0 ( 7 Dec 2002)
+ 1.2.0RC1 has been released as 1.2.0
o version 1.2.0RC1 ( 26 Nov 2002 )
+ setreuid(user_uid,0) added in cgipaf.c
passwd.cgi should now support all pam options in the PAM configuration
(cracklib, minimum/ maximum password length etc.) on all systems with
PAM support.
+ The set_PAM_CHANGE_EXPIRED_AUTHTOK directive is obsolete and will be
removed in the next releases of CGIpaf
o version 1.2.0pre1 ( 24 Oct 2002 )
+ Access Control List added ( AclOrder, AllowUsers, AllowGroups, DenyUsers
DenyGroups directives )
* Overview
cgipaf is a combination of three cgi programs:
+ passwd.cgi : allow users to update their password
+ viewmailcfg.cgi : allow users to view their current mail configuration.
+ mailcfg.cgi : update the mail configuration
o All programs use PAM for user authentication, systems without PAM are only
supported if they use the standard password file location (/etc/passwd ,
/etc/shadow) and the standard crypt or md5 passwords.
o If a password is changed it is possible to run a script to update SAMBA
passwords, NIS configuration, etc.
o The mail configuration is done by procmail, mailcfg.cgi creates a
.procmailrc in the user's home directory. If autoreply is enabled the
autoreply message is stored in ~/vacations.txt. When a user enables mail
forwarding the user can choose to keep the messages.
o For user authentication viewmailcfg.cgi creates a cookie, this cookie is
stored in the accessdb. mailcfg.cgi reads the cookie out the accessdb and
compares it with the cookie send by the users browser.
o User with too many invalid logins can be locked.
o The minimum and maximum uid can be set in the configuration file, so you
can specify a range of uid's that are allowed to use cgipasswd.
o You can specify html files with a few PHP extensions for the login screen
and error messages.
o It's possible to use a redirect for the error messages, instead of plain
html files.
o It's is possible to define an external script to update the the mail
configuration to support other mail configurations than procmail a
sample script with vacation support is included.
o CGIpaf also contains the "changepass" utility which is basically a clone
of the chpasswd(8) Linux command, it might be useful on platforms that
doesn't have such a command like Solaris.
regards,

Subject: [ANNOUNCE] SMSTerm 0.6.1
hi ppl.
this is announcing a new version of my software - SMSTerm 0.6.1
Since 0.5 was the last version i announced here, let me inform you
of the changes from 0.5 to 0.6.1:
Changes in 0.6:
* fixed receipt bugs introduced in 0.5: smsterm.pl had a
bug. It resulted in not allowing smsterm to work
when ICQ messed up with SMS receipts. Now we dont do
ANY receipt checking. If ICQ says its sent, its
sent. That's that.
* Reconnect on disconnection: when smsterm and icqsmsd will
attempt reconnection when they're disconnected from
ICQ, not just die.
* icqsms-send: can send SMS directly as an argument
on the command line. Now, both methods - reading through
STDIN and reading on the command line are supported.
* PHP script:
a PHP script has now been included to allow sending an
SMS from your webpage. (thanx Dieter and Niek!)
* proxy support:
support for both HTTPS and SOCKS v5 proxies are now
supported. The modified version of ICQ2000.pm by vICQ
is used now.
* minor code restructuring
Changes in 0.6.1:
* included the new vICQ.pm version 1.10: the earlier version
had some serious bugs in receiving SMS which prevented SMSTerm
from working at all. I released SMSTerm 0.6 in a hurry during
my exams so I couldn't test it thoroughly. Apologies to everyone
who couldn't get it to work. This time everything is tested and
tried, and it works. :)
* delay modified: the default delay time has been increased from
10s to 20s in SMSTerm. This is because ICQ was giving me RATE_LIMIT
errors if i set it too low. Anyone who get a RATE_LIMIT can try
bumping it somemore. :)
If someone has any problems with it, do drop me a mail.
Nikhil.

Margao is the main headquarters town of South Goa. When someone suggested
setting up a LUG there, the response was: why not? Today, this LUG is
doing well for itself, attracting more people to GNU/Linux in Goa, and
bringing in those who would have probably not made it for the main group's
meetings in Panjim. This is a small note from them... FN
PS: Goa is India's smallest state on the west coast....
========== Forwarded message ==========
Key highlights:-
** www.ilug-margao.org is the first GNU/Linux related site in Goa..
** The contributions section contains easy to read how-to's contributed
by members..one dosent have to go through tonnes of material to
install/configure the stuff. A quick read should do the trick!
** A chat channel for GNU/Linux enthusiasts. Impatient geeks could get
their queries answered instantly! (Perhaps, Saturday night could be
fixed to hold virtual discussions?)
** Project section will hold projects that have been coded by members.
** A neat and slick Photo Gallery to show off GNU/Linux activities!
** Tutorials section for other resources/tutorials found around the web
** CD/Book management will be added by the end of JAN to facilitate
borrowing of Books/CD's around South Goa.
