From: "M. Leo Cooper" <thegrendel@theriver.com>
Subject: Advanced Bash Scripting Guide: version 1.5 update
Date: 24 Jul 2002 03:00:16 GMT

Announcing the version 1.5 release of the "Advanced Bash Scripting Guide."
This e-book tutorial and reference is the equivalent of a 512-page print book.
With 250+ illustrative examples, the book covers virtually every aspect of
scripting.

This update adds coverage of "colorizing" scripts using ANSI escape sequences.

The author invites comparisons with *any* of the commercially printed books on
shell scripting.

"This tutorial assumes no previous knowledge of
scripting or programming, but progresses rapidly toward an
intermediate/advanced level of instruction ...all the while
sneaking in little snippets of UNIX wisdom and lore. It serves
as a textbook, a manual for self-study, and a reference
and source of knowledge on shell scripting techniques. The
exercises and heavily-commented examples invite active reader
participation, under the premise that the only way to really
learn scripting is to write scripts."
                -- from the Introduction

License: Open Publication License
This means the book is *free* and freely distributable.

From: Anthony Johnson <anthony_nospam@storix.com>
Subject: ANNOUNCE: Storix System Backup Administrator for Linux!

Storix now provides full-featured system
backup and recovery software for Linux systems.

San Diego, CA -- July 22, 2002 Storix Software has now expanded their
expertise of system backup and recovery to Linux systems with the
availability of Storix System Backup Administrator (SBA) for Linux
Version 4.1. The software is currently available for all major
distributions and supports Intel (x86) and PowerPC-based systems.

Unlike several "bare-metal" restore techniques, SBA understands Linux
and your specific system configuration allowing it to rebuild the system
from the ground up. SBA supports all major filesystems, Logical Volume
Manger (LVM) and software RAID (meta-disk) devices.

Storix System Backup Administrator can be used to manage backups of a
standalone system or all Linux systems on the network. SBA’s intuitive
graphical user interface provides all the features you would expect, as
well as advanced features such as backup scheduling, tape labels, tape
striping, overwrite and retention policies, performance statistics
reporting and support for sequential autoloaders.

SBA's system installation process allows you to restore onto the same or
a completely different hardware configuration. Plus, you can
re-customize your system by changing filesystem types, adding software
RAID devices, converting to LVM partitions and much more.

“SBA’s provides a system recovery process that others can’t - because
we know Linux like no one else.”, explains Storix President, Anthony
Johnson. "We are confident that our product is so intuitive and reliable
that any support needed will be provided free of charge."

SBA is available in a free "personal edition" as well as a commercial
version (available for a free 30-day evaluation). For more information
or to download the software, visit the Storix web site at
http://www.storix.com.

About Storix Software
Storix was founded in 1998 for development of a system backup and
recovery solution for AIX systems. Until recently, Storix remained
exclusively in the AIX market. While Storix plans to further expand its
system base in the future, its policy is to never rush to provide a
backup and restore product without complete and flexible full system
recovery.
