February was a very interesting month over at the StepByStep website. The
linux.nf domain was unroutable for a majority of the month, prompting us to
register our new domain at linux-sxs.org. All subsequent web content, mailing
lists, and newsgroups were subsequently moved to the new domain as well. You
can find out news server at news.linux-sxs.org now, and our mailing lists are
at http://www.linux-sxs.org/mailman/listinfo/. Please everyone update all
your references from the old domain (linux.nf) to the new one (linux-sxs.org).

February also saw the launch of our new job board! We went live with
http://jobs.linux-sxs.org on the 18th and already have over 1245 jobs and 612
resumes in the system! The site specializes in employment opportunites in the
Linux, Unix, and Embedded marketspaces. Job seekers can even elect to sign up
for our new jobs list so they are notified of each new position on the site.

February also the addition of a new format for the offline copies of the
site. You can now download the entire site in either HTML or PDF format The
PDF format is now generated nightly and available from the 'offline copies'
link on the main page. The PDF version also includes the images and diagrams
used in the howtos.

The following new content was added to the site in February:
Dual-Mice howto
Netgear NICs addenda added
a review of Libranet 2.0
our new job board
further tweaks to installing Sendmail 12.x howto
chrooted Bind 9 howto
Installing Bind 9 howto
KDE3 howto
"Random" email signatures howto
USB Printers quick tips
dual-boot linux and Win2k howto
updated to Installing Xfree86 4.x howto

Linux File Systems and Underlying Block Devices

Wednesday March 13, 19h00, Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, room B-505

Michel Dagenais, professor at Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal,
will describe several filesystems (ext2, ext3, Reiserfs, Intermezzo)
and block devices (LVM, MD, ENBD).

Ext2 is the most widespread filesystem, while Ext3 and ReiserFS are newer
journaling filesystems which reduce considerably the reboot time after
a crash. Intermezzo is a distributed read/write replicated filesystem.

LVM is used to distribute a filesystem among several devices, enabling
live device additions and removal. MD is a software RAID 0-5 implementation,
and ENBD allows devices to be accessed remotely and may be combined with
MD for interesting applications.

The presentation will be in French.

FS: BLOWOUT:Only 1 case left arley Hahn's "Open Computing Unix
Unbound" - $3+ shipping.

Published by Osborne
ISBN 0-07-882050-2

I have a short supply.
These books originally sold for $27.95 and are considered by many to
be one of the best books ever written as an introduction/reference to
the Unix Operating System (also applies to Linux, the BSDs, and
Solaris ).

They feature info on Unix, X windows, multiple shells, the Vi editor
the Emacs editor, etc.

The Apendixes and Quick Indexes are tremendous resources for finding
commands. There are summaries of commands for unix, vi, and emacs:
it's worth the price for this alone.

I'm asking $3.00 plus a flat rate shipping/handling charge.

Total price shipped at book rate: $7.00 total in Lower 48 states.
Total price shipped Priorty mail: $10.00 total in Lower 48 states.

For immediate shipment use Paypal; I will, also, accept a prepaid
*Postal* Money order but the books will we be shipped in the order
that I receive payment (I'll return MO's for unfulfilled orders).
Use Paypal and be sure. All sales final.
