their mailing list is still active at lugj@yahoogroups.com
for now that will suffice...but that is not all soon we shall have our
own webserver ,mailing lists, anonymous ftp server et al (the college

Would love to buy the book, but all you unenlightened people always act
like everyone that use's Linux use Redhat. PostgreSQL is a database that
works on all Linux distros. Maybe if you acted like it you would sell
more of your product.

Group Meeting Wednesday February 06, 2002 7:00 PM PST Posted By:
Jason Cox LUG Meeting - Feb 06, 2002
WHERE: Room 9, Weber State Library
note: room 9 is in the basement. Enter the library through either the east
or west doors and take the stairs located just north of the east doors. I'm
not sure exactly which room is 9 but it should be marked.
WHEN: 7pm-9pm (The room will be available at 6:30p for those who wish to
bring computers. Limited outlets are available so please bring your own
power strips. One outlet per person.) Please be prompt so we can start on
time.
WHAT TO BRING: yourself. I spoke with the library and they said it wouldn't
be a problem if people wanted to bring thier own computers.
This is the biggest room that they have available. It has tables but I think
it will only fit about 10 people. This should be fine for atleast this
meeting. We could discuss alternate meeting locations during this meeting.
We should also discuss future meeting times. I know atleast a couple of
people have suggested that we meet once on wednesday and once on saturday
each month.
As far as parking goes, everything is free after 5pm. With reference to the
following map: Map of Weber State
(http://weber.edu/weberstatemap/default.html) , the best place to park would
be the spot labled "PPL" just right of the contsruction zone. This is
normally a pay lot but I believe it to is also free after 5pm. It's just a
quick 100 yards or so to the library from there. (The library is "37LI" on
the map)

Subject: The CREC-LUG announcement

Reply-To: sood aaditya <ec98310@matrix.reccal.ernet.in>
This is an announcement about a new LUG in CREC, Kerela, India.
We run a LUG in CREC (Calicut Regional Engineering College, Kerela,
India) called CREC-LUG. Although there have been Linux users in the
college since about 1995, paradoxically the LUG was founded in Nov 2001!
That partly explains why we haven't had any meetings yet, the other
reason being the exams :-/.
The DNS to our server (called tux.reccal.ernet.in) is shaky and slow
(almost like the whole ERNET), so the site better be accessed at the IP
address. Mail however would come through.
Lug Name : CREC-LUG
Co-ordinator : aaditya sood <ec98310 at matrix.reccal.ernet.in>
Mailing List Url: http://202.41.105.20/mailman/listinfo/lug
Mailing List Subscribe : <lug-request at tux.reccal.ernet.in> or from the Mailing list Url
Mailing List Archives : http://202.41.105.20/pipermail/lug
Lug Website : http://202.41.105.20/
First Meeting : Sometime in Jan 2002
Local Resources : A mailing list+website+~150 people:)
So any of the alumni of the college, anyone near Calicut (or anyone
at all:)) is invited to join. Just send a mail to me for more info.
Happy hacking!

Subject: A Plea for High-level Descriptions in Postings
Dear cola poster,
I think many of you are short-changing both yourselves and us naive
linux users by the type of messages you post to this list. It seems that
most of the ones I read (and I read them all) consist of two sections:
what's changed, and where to get it. That's great for your established
user base, and I know that your web page has great detail about the
product.
But a typical update to cola has ten or twenty messages. I often don't
have the time to look through the referenced web pages, and I think many
other readers don't either. I am sure that I have missed out on several
packages that would be useful to me but I was not smart enough to
realize it. Just a few short sentences could make a big difference.
Pseudo-example:
Potrzeebie is a grobswitcher client. It lets you download grobs and
switch and browse them locally. Its advantage over switchgrob is that it
is smaller and much faster, although less flexible.
I know your program represents hundreds or thousands of hours of effort.
It deserves the largest audience possible. Please spend one or two extra
minutes telling us what your creation does. It will help you, and it
will help us.
Thank you,
Gerry
