Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2001 07:23:02 CST

The LessTif Core Team is pleased to announce
      Release 0.93.18
of the LessTif library!

This is an official release:
Main issue is to have a release based on current libtool.
In addition various bug fixes have been applied and
the Container widget has been worked on.

About LessTif:
LessTif is a "free" (LGPL'd) implementation of the OSF/Motif standard
GUI toolkit for X11. LessTif aims to be source compatible with the
OSF/Motif versions 1.2 and 2.1.
So at this point, all Motif 1.2 apps compile and work out of the box
with LessTif! But we still lack some substantial parts of the 2.1
functionality, however most 2.x applications do already build at least.

Some run-time problems however may still exist. The LessTif Core team is
interested in hearing about Motif applications which don't work with LessTif.
Bug reports are welcome; patches are even more welcome!

More information, source code, and binaries for several platforms
are available at:

                               Latest Report about CHPC
Please visit us at http://www.dyrefrigeration.com

We are glad to introduce an advanced product--CHPC. It absorbs the merit of environmental protecting and energy economizing. It uses DY heat energy adsorption refrigeration technology.
This technology solves some problems, which exists in the traditional adsorption technology, that is to say, to shorten time for heating; to narrow the range of temperature fluctuation; to continuous refrigerate successfully. According to the world\'s trend, CHPC will attract people\'s attention in the future. If you acknowledge and use this product, you will earn profits. It is undoubted that we have a broad cooperative prospect.

The definition of CHPC (Combined heat power and cold)
CHPC is one of good solutions to utilize energy scientifically. Based on central heat supplier system whose heat comes from tri-generation, DY Refrigerator is added to produce cold and to fulfill various cold needs in the meantime when power is generated and heat is provided. CHPC makes full use of low-class surplus heat discharged by thermal power plant simultaneously with generation and refrigeration, raises energy utilization rate, and therefore is the system to use energy efficiently. It greatly reduces energy consumption as well as abating pollution of waste heat.

Characteristics of CHPC:
1.Prominent characteristics of CHPC are energy saving and environment protection. It uses various forms of waste heat and surplus heat at temperature above or on ˇÝ120C and adopts ammonia as refrigerant to obtain refrigeration with efficiency. Especially during the operation of small or middle sized power plants with capacity ranging from 30KW to 200KW and fuel batteries, DY Refrigerator System can recover 30%ˇ«40% of energy. It achieves recovery of waste heat, economizes on electricity to refrigerate, and also conduces to improvement of atmosphere and promotion of living standard of people.
2.Compared with those tri-generation taking Lithium-bromide refrigeration or ammonia-water absorption refrigeration, CHPC can be applied in more widely fields.
1)CHPC can provide cold with temperature from -25C to 18C to cold storage, skating rink and air-conditioning, etc. Obviously, it can be more widely used than lithium-bromide refrigeration that only provide temperature above 0C.
2) CHPC also can attain small refrigeration capacity besides large capacity.
3.CHPC with capacity as 12KW, 16KW and 20KW are available now. But we can design and produce those with capacity below 150KW to satisfy your specific requirements.

An important mark of DY technology maturity:
The first worldwide DY adsorption product was exported to Japan in Nov. 2000, which is matched with the exhaust from the 30Kw Micro Gas Turbine. The second one was sent to Japan again in Oct 2001. And the result is that the Japan Company will give an order for 50 sets in 2002.

If you are interested in the above-mentioned, please contact us immediately for detailed information about DY technology and relevant products. It\'s believable that our cooperation will bring great social and commercial benefit and will form a revolution in the refrigeration field.

IBM and GeneFormatics Partner to Accelerate Drug Discovery
      Agreement puts information technology to work in determining protein
                             function and structure

      ARMONK, N.Y. and SAN DIEGO, Calif., December 18, 2001 . . . IBM and
GeneFormatics, Inc. today announced an agreement that could pave the way
for more efficient drug discovery.

      Through the agreement, IBM becomes GeneFormatics' preferred
information technology and services partner. IBM will provide a range of
hardware and software products and services to support GeneFormatics'
cutting-edge work in rapidly discovering the functions and structures of
thousands of proteins, including hundreds of human proteins that may be
associated with various diseases. IBM is also participating in
GeneFormatics' third round of equity financing.

      "Understanding proteins is key to the future of drug discovery, and
GeneFormatics is on the cutting edge of proteomics research," said Caroline
Kovac, Ph.D., general manager, IBM Life Sciences. "This agreement will
enable GeneFormatics to expand its work, building on a rock-solid IT
foundation that can easily manage the complexity and volume of proteomic
data involved."

      GeneFormatics is transforming structural proteomics by employing a
unique and cost-effective "function first" approach to protein analysis.
Using a combination of proprietary computational and experimental
technologies, GeneFormatics' "function first" approach identifies the
functions of proteins before using resource-intensive methods to determine
the high-resolution structures. This integrated approach allows
GeneFormatics to prioritize the proteins of greatest interest, generating
valuable information, such as biochemical function, protein structure and
identification of lead compounds to accelerate drug discovery.

      "The relationship with IBM validates the significance of
GeneFormatics' "function first" approach to proteomics research and will
enable us to further develop and commercialize our technologies and
products," said John Chiplin, Ph.D., chief executive officer of
GeneFormatics. "IBM's IT infrastructure combined with GeneFormatics'
engineering and scientific expertise will allow us to use and offer unique
tools to help researchers identify and prioritize potential protein targets
for new drugs."

      IBM will assist GeneFormatics in building the information technology
infrastructure necessary to support development efforts. The
infrastructure will include a cluster of IBM eServer* xSeries* 330 systems
running Linux**; IBM's Enterprise Storage Server* (code named "Shark"); and
IBM DB2 Universal Database*. Future directions for the partnership include
IBM's DiscoveryLink* data integration software. DiscoveryLink will allow
researchers to easily integrate proteomic data, including amino-acid
sequences, from a variety of sources, formats and file types into a
'virtual database'.

OpenSSL version 0.9.6c released
===============================

OpenSSL - The Open Source toolkit for SSL/TLS
http://www.openssl.org/

The OpenSSL project team is pleased to announce the release of version
0.9.6c of our open source toolkit for SSL/TLS. This new OpenSSL version
is mostly a bugfix release and incorporates at least 40 changes to the
toolkit (for a complete list see http://www.openssl.org/source/exp/CHANGES).

The most significant changes are:

    o Various SSL/TLS library bugfixes.
    o BIGNUM library fixes.
    o RSA OAEP and random number generation fixes.
    o Object identifiers corrected and added.
    o Add assembler BN routines for IA64.
    o Add support for OS/390 Unix, UnixWare with gcc, OpenUNIX 8,
      MIPS Linux; shared library support for Irix, HP-UX.
    o Add crypto accelerator support for AEP, Baltimore SureWare,
      Broadcom and Cryptographic Appliance's keyserver
      [in 0.9.6c-engine release].

We consider OpenSSL 0.9.6c to be the best version of OpenSSL available
and we strongly recommend that users of older versions upgrade as
soon as possible. OpenSSL 0.9.6c is available for download via HTTP
and FTP from the following master locations (you can find the various
FTP mirrors under http://www.openssl.org/source/mirror.html):

  o http://www.openssl.org/source/
  o ftp://ftp.openssl.org/source/

[1] OpenSSL comes in the form of two distributions this time.
The reasons for this is that we want to deploy the external crypto device
support but don't want to have it part of the "normal" distribution just
yet. The distribution containing the external crypto device support is
popularly called "engine", and is considered experimental. It's been
fairly well tested on Unix and flavors thereof. If run on a system with
no external crypto device, it will work just like the "normal" distribution.

The distribution file names are:

    o openssl-0.9.6c.tar.gz [normal]
    o openssl-engine-0.9.6c.tar.gz [engine]

The OpenSSL Project Team...

This is an announcement about a new LUG in CREC, Kerela, India.

We run a LUG in CREC (Calicut Regional Engineering College, Kerela,
India) called CREC-LUG. Although there have been Linux users in the
college since about 1995, paradoxically the LUG was founded in Nov 2001!
That partly explains why we haven't had any meetings yet, the other
reason being the exams :-/.

The DNS to our server (called tux.reccal.ernet.in) is shaky and slow
(almost like the whole ERNET), so the site better be accessed at the IP
address. Mail however would come through.

Lug Name : CREC-LUG

Hi. I'm hoping to find other Linux users in the Waco/Temple/Killeen
area who would like to join an informal Linux User Group and visit
about Linux. I have no idea how many Linux users there are in the
Waco area, but this way, we could meet and maybe share information and
howto's on this wonderful operating system.

My idea is to have a monthly (or however often) meeting where we could
discuss Linux, have presentations on installation and configuration,
and maybe have speakers when available.

If this sounds like something you'd care to participate in, let me
know. I've setup a website (just did it tonight, so it might be
several days before it's available) to post current information on
this venture and meeting times when we have enough interested.

Thanks for your time,

Subject: Guikachu 1.1.1 "OMFG": GNOME Resource editor for PalmOS projects
Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2001 07:24:26 CST

Dear users of both large and small computing tools,

A new development release of Guikachu is available.

About Guikachu
==============
Guikachu is a GNOME application for graphical editing of resource
files for PalmOS-based pocket computers. The user interface is
modelled after Glade, the GNOME UI builder.

Catch it all from http://cactus.rulez.org/projects/guikachu/

Features
========
 * libXML-based I/O
 * Exporting to PilRC .rcp files (compile with pilrc -H)
 * String and string list resources
 * Dialog resources
 * Menu resources
 * Form resources
 * Per-application resources (e.g. version number)
 * WYSIWYG Form Editor, with drag & drop capability
 * XSLT style sheets and shell script to generate RCP files from
   Guikachu documents
 * Sample file with sample GNU PalmOS SDK-based application
 * Documentation (a complete user's manual)

About these releases
====================
1.1.1 has some user interface improvements, mainly the ability to
change the colors used by the form editor to render previews.

Note that 1.1.x is the development series. Bugs may occur, the
documentation may not be in sync with the real features, build may
fail. Download the latest 1.0 release for serious use.

Guikachu uses GTK-- and GNOME-- for its user interface. File I/O is
implemented via the libxml package. Dialog windows are loaded via
libglade. GConf is used to store user preferences. You will need the
versions of these packages available in the GNOME 1.4 bundle (with the
exception of GNOME-- which you will need to upgrade to version 1.2.0)
To actually create the PalmOS resource files, you will also need PilRC
(part of the GNU PalmOS SDK) to compile the .rpc files produced by
Guikachu.
To use the stand-alone Guikachu-to-RCP converter program, xsltproc
(part of the libxslt package) is required.

Beware of bugémons!

Subject: satcom v0.6 bugfix release

Hi,

I have uploaded satcom-0.6, a bug fix version of my SGP4/SDP4
satellite tracker application. In the previous v0.5 release,
there is a segmentation fault problem caused by an uninitialized
pointer (used before malloc) which somehow never caused me any
crashes. There is also a potential seg fault problem that can be
caused by a malformed satcom.sat file which has also been fixed.

If you have tried satcom (successfully or not) and intend to use
it, please download version 0.6 from my homepage:
http://leonardo.spidernet.net/Copernicus/22420/

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year, hopefully more peaceful!
