=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hash: SHA1
MIMEDefang is a MIME mail scanner designed to run on Linux or UNIX
systems, and intended mainly to protect Windows e-mail clients from
mail-borne viruses. It can, however, be used for many other purposes,
such as restricting access to certain e-mail addresses to specific mail
relays, diverting large attachments to a Web server instead of keeping
them in the message, and so on. MIMEDefang requires Sendmail 8.11 or
later.
MIMEDefang is available from:
http://www.roaringpenguin.com/mimedefang/
and is released under the GNU General Public License.
Version 2.1 fixes an obscure but potentially serious bug in 2.0;
you are strongly encouraged to upgrade.
Changes since Version 2.0
o If a slave dies unexpectedly, the multiplexor handles it gracefully
rather than entering a non-responsive busy loop.
o Red Hat "init" scripts were cleaned up.
o More information logged to syslog (you may want to avoid logging
messages of "debug" priority.)
o Default filter is less aggressive and more appropriate for most
networks with Windows e-mail clients.

Version 2.0 is a major enhancement over the previous version (1.4);
you are strongly encouraged to upgrade.
Changes since Version 1.4:
o Complete overhaul of the architecture. Rather than starting a new
Perl process for each incoming e-mail message, you can maintain a
pre-forked pool of Perl processes which are re-used for subsequent
messages. This approach is similar to Apache 1.3's architecture, and
significantly reduces CPU consumption (by a factor of 5 or more on my
test machine.) Even modest machines can now scan hundreds of thousands
of messages per day. See mimedefang-multiplexor(8) for details.
o Compatibility with Sendmail 8.12.
o The communication protocol between mimedefang and the filter is
documented; you can now replace the Perl filter with a filter written
in the language of your choice by following the protocol documented in
mimedefang-protocol(7).

in real-time, including information on the process performing the
access, result code, time of access, and other information. It allows
you to highlight, filter, and save logs, making it a powerful tool for
tracking down problems or understanding system or application

Subject: LessTif Release 0.93.14 is out
Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2001 19:55:40 CST
The LessTif Core Team is pleased to announce
Release 0.93.14
of the LessTif library!
This is a test release, using these auto* tools :
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.52
automake (GNU automake) 1.5
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.4 (1.920 2001/04/24 23:26:18)
XmContainer is being worked on, also this release fixes a 1.2 build
problem.
About LessTif:
LessTif is a "free" (LGPL'd) implementation of the OSF/Motif standard
GUI toolkit for X11. LessTif aims to be source compatible with the
OSF/Motif versions 1.2 and 2.1.
We're almost done with the 1.2 part, but we still lack some substantial
parts of the 2.1 functionality. (Actually most 2.x applications do already
build, but may not work properly yet.)
So at this point, all Motif 1.2 apps compile out of the box with LessTif!
Some run-time problems however may still exist. The LessTif Core team is
interested in hearing about Motif applications which don't work with LessTif.
Bug reports are welcome; patches are even more welcome!
More information, source code, and binaries for several platforms
are available at:
http://www.lesstif.org

Subject: xpdf 0.93 - a PDF viewer for X
I've just released a new version of xpdf, my Portable Document Format
(PDF) viewer for X.
Xpdf runs under the X Window System on Unix, VMS, and OS/2. The non-X
components of the package (pdftops, pdftotext, etc.) also run on Win32
systems.
Noticeable changes:
* Embed TrueType fonts in PostScript output. (Added a "-noembtt" flag
to pdftops.)
* Implement PDF 1.4 (128-bit) decryption.
* Bump supported PDF version number to 1.4.
* Text output for Simplified Chinese. [Thanks to Cheung Siu Fai.]
* Read an app-defaults file for Xpdf. Read a system-wide config file
(<prefix>/etc/xpdfrc) if ~/.xpdfrc doesn't exist.
* Accept and verify owner password; if correct, allow all actions.
* Added a "-level2sep" option to pdftops to generate Level 2 separable
PostScript. The PostScript separation convention operators are used
to handle custom (spot) colors. [Thanks to Thomas Freitag for help
on this.]
* Add support for FreeType 2 to the configure script. Warning: this
requires FT 2.0.5 or newer (see the INSTALL file for details).
See the `CHANGES' file for a complete list.
Source (C++ and C) is available, and it should be fairly easy to
compile for UNIX, VMS, OS/2, and Win32.
More information, source code, and precompiled binaries are on the
xpdf web page and ftp site:
http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/
ftp://ftp.foolabs.com/pub/xpdf/
Source and Linux binaries are on sunsite.unc.edu, currently in
the incoming directory, but they will be moved to:

Subject: Catastrophic bug in LILO alpha and beta version 21.1
Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2001 19:56:31 CST
Reply-To: johninsd@hotmail.com
A catastrophic bug has been discovered in:
lilo-22.1-alpha4
lilo-22.1-alpha5
lilo-22.1-beta6 -- latest as of 10/24/2001.
lilo-22.1-alpha3 and earlier do not have the bug.
The tarballs for these releases were posted on the developer's (my) site at:
http://brun.dyndns.org/pub/linux/lilo in directories alpha and beta
The affected tarballs have been removed from the site.
The bug involves writing more code to the boot sector than is allowed. This
causes trashing of the first partition table entry, with disastrous results if
the boot loader is written to a Master Boot Record, or an Extended Partition.
The bug does not affect systems where the boot record is written to an 'ext2'
partition.
