The Internet: An industrial Revolution
Keynote: How to make money with Linux: The Master's Course
I keep hearing the question "How can you make money with free software?",
and while the value proposition has changed somewhat since the early days of
Linux, the answer is still the same. This talk will cover the do's and

Jon "maddog" Hall - Keynote
Linux International
Bio: Jon has been in the computer industry for over a quarter century, 17
years of that with UNIX. He has been a software engineer, systems
administrator, product manager, marketing manager and professional educator.
Before accepting a job at VA Linux Systems working full time for Linux
International, Jon was employed by Compaq Computer Corporation in the
Digital UNIX Marketing group and Bell Laboratories. Before that he was
Department Head of Computer Science at Hartford State Technical College,
where his students lovingly (he hopes) gave him the nickname maddog. Maddog
as he prefers to be called, has an MS in Computer Science from RPI (1977)
and a BS in Commerce and Engineering from Drexel University (1973).
About Linux International: Linux International is a non-profit organization,
residing physically in the United States. Our organization is made up of
many people contributing from all areas of the globe. We distribute
information about Linux, and how it will benefit business and personal
users, reserve places at major computer expos, and accept donations to
distribute to programmers who need money to test out applications.
Who's Who lists Linux International Members' personal information, including
a small description on what role they play in the Linux market. LI Sponsors
are the companies behind Linux International. They provide many resources
for LI, and they are required for LI to function correctly, if at all. Linux
Development Grant Fund is a way to fund programmers in need of money, to
test their software on other equipment, and to generally help development in
many ways.
For information about participating in any of our marketing programs,
contact marketing@li.org.
For press inquiries, contact marketing@li.org.
To become a member of LI, contact membership@li.org.

New high quality professional CAD and visual modelling software
=================================================================
a must have for every professional Linux user
http://www.linuxcad.com
Freedom of Choice CAD ( or also known under title LinuxCAD ) is a Computer Aided Drafting
package in many aspects analogous to well known product AutoCAD of Autodesk Inc.
LinuxCAD has been developed absolutely independently from scratch , it is a native Linux
application.
The outline of the main features:
1) LinuxCAD provides great variety of entity types ( lines , circles , ellipses , traces , text ,
polylines , solids , doughnuts , arcs , user defined entities and 3D entities ) ,
2) LinuxCAD implements all necessary editing features ( scale ,
rotate , mirror , offset , array , copy , move ... ).
3) Allows up to 1000 layers, with ability to control layer color and visibility independently.
4) All entities are transferable to and from AutoCAD through DXF exchange format.
5) Supports user defined line types and load able fonts in SHX format.
6) Supports a hardcopy to printers.
7) Parts of the drawing can be copied between different instances of the LinuxCAD using X-Clipboard.
8) LinuxCAD has industry standard Motif GUI.
9) Allows users to write custom applications for automating typical editing and drafting tasks
using industry most popular C-compiler GCC.
To learn more about LinuxCAD ( or Freedom of Choice CAD ) visit web page
http://www.linuxcad.com
Although sold as a commercial software LinuxCAD is still priced at very competitive low price
of $75 and $50 for full time students.

Subject: SHAREWARE: txt2pdf 5.2
Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2001 11:46:21 CST
Most of your documents are text files. Usually, your reports from
legacy applications, DBs, ERP applications and datawarehouse are
textual. txt2pdf allows you to take those old text files and turn them
into PDF's using only PERL, which means you don't even need to pass
the data through PostScript first.
You can run txt2pdf on any system that runs PERL, but it has been
tested and is verified to work on many operating systems.
etxt2pdf is the executable version of txt2pdf. It's been specially
compiled for those users who simply can't or don't want to run PERL on
their systems. It has all the functionality of the original perl
version, and is merely distributed in binary form for your
convenience.
We currently have 5 executable versions: Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX,
HP-UX
If you're interested in a binary for another operating system, such as
FreeBSD please let us know, and we'll send you one. With enough
requests, we'll also add one here permanently. Please note that the
Windows version comes with an extra tool known as Visual txt2pdf.
Here are some of the things that you can achieve with txt2pdf:
You can mark coloured (using PERL regular expressions) phrases in the
produced PDF files.
You can mark bold, italic and bold italic phrases in the produced
PDFfiles.
You can add page numbers on every page.
You can add text at the beginning and at the end of every file.
You can add a border to every page.
Internet specific phrases such as http://... ftp://...
mailto:...file:... ldap:... news:... will automatically be made into
clickable URL's.
You can create a link to a specific age within a PDF document by
simply adding http://...pdfdocument#pdfmark
Every word like MIME:... will automatically become a link that will
launch the correct application to open that file.
You can use background and foreground layers.
All predefined encodings (WinAnsiEncoding, MacRomanEncoding,
MacExpertEncoding, PDFDocEncoding) supported by the PDF format and the
Unix default are supported by txt2pdf.
It's possible to rerun txt2pdf infinitely (every configured second,
sleep feature) on a specific directory (and also it's recursive
directories) moving the produced PDF to a specific directory, and the
original text to a specific directory.
txt2pdf supports STDIN and STDOUT.
EPD 1.0 support. You can use EPD inside the background layer.
A License is ONLY $99.
SANFACE Software is going to give you a free license for every good
idea or good modify to txt2pdf.
txt2pdf is shareware
The txt2pdf source code is our company core business.
We trust you.
You can test text2pdf and modify it.
You can't use a modify version of txt2pdf for production purpose. You
can't resell txt2pdf or a modify version of it without SANFACE
Software authorization.
You can't copy part of it to include in your source without SANFACE
Software authorization.
What's new in this version
Now you can execute txt2pdf without txt2pdf.cfg. It'll use the default
parameters. The program will advice you but it doesn't abort the
execution.
-default to print the default parameters
Test txt2pdf 5.2!
You can find it at http://www.sanface.com/txt2pdf.html
Don't forget txt2pdf 5.x PRO at
http://www.sanface.com/txt2pdfPRO.html
