Reply-To: alain@linux.lu

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I would like to announce a new release of mtools, a collection of
utilities to access MS-DOS disks from Unix without mounting them.

Mtools supports Win'95 style long file names, FAT32, OS/2 Xdf disks
and 2m disks (store up to 1992k on a high density 3 1/2 disk). Mtools
also includes mpartition, a simple partitioning programing to setup
Zip and Jaz media on non-PC machines (SunOs, Solaris and HP/UX).

Mtools can currently be found at the following places:

http://www.tux.org/pub/knaff/mtools
http://mtools.linux.lu/mtools

 and soon at:

ftp://tsx-11.mit.edu/pub/linux/sources/usr.bin/mtools-3.9.8.tar.gz
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/Incoming/mtools-3.9.8.tar.gz
 (will be moved to ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/utils/disk-management/mtools-3.9.8.tar.gz)

 The md5sums are:

383538ac2df83871ce18628e132fcb10 mtools-3.9.8.tar.gz
f3fc45a3d70a8fba9dabb9b3db216008 mtools-3.9.8-1.i386.rpm

This is mostly a maintainance release which fixes a couple of bugs in
the following areas:
 - Portability issues (Solaris large disks, AIX, Hurd)
 - A number of floppyd fixes
 - Zip250 support
 - Fixed file overwrite bug, which can happen on almost full disks
 - Added mode to translate file contents from Dos to Unix
 - Some minor documentation fixes

There is an mtools mailing list at mtools@www.tux.org. To subscribe
to it, send a message containing 'subscribe mtools' in its body to
majordomo@tux.org. Mailing list archives are at
http://www.tux.org/hypermail/mtools

Before submitting a bug report, check whether your problem has not yet
been fixed in one of the patches at:

                              PROCMETER V3.3a
                              ===============

The ProcMeter program itself is a framework on which a number of modules
(plugins) are loaded. More modules can be written as required to perform more
monitoring and informational functions.

The statistics that are displayed are grouped by module, with a menu allowing
selection of module and a sub-menu for each output available for that module.

APM
Advanced Power Management information. These outputs are only available
if you have configured the kernel to have the APM feature.

Biff
Monitors the e-mail inbox (in /var/spool/mail/<username> or
/var/mail/<username>) and indicates the number of e-mails that are
        waiting and the size.

Date_Time
The current date and time and the amount of time since the system was
        last booted.

DiskUsage
Shows the percentage of the disk that is used and the amount of free
space for each of the local disks that it finds are mounted or can be
        mounted when the program starts.

LogFile
Monitors the size and number of lines and the rate of increase of these
in a set of log files.

Memory
The amount of memory that is used for programs, buffers, cache and the
        amount that is free.

Network
The network devices and the amount of traffic on each of them. It will
automatically pick up available devices when it starts.

Processes
The load average and the number of processes running and starting.

ProcMeter
Information about the procmeter program itself.

Sensors
Hardware sensors for temperature and fan speed. (Requires lm78 hardware
        and kernel patch from http://www.netroedge.com/~lm78/).

Statistics
Low level system statistics. For example CPU usage, disk usage,
        swapping and paging.

Stat-CPU
Statistics about individual CPU usage including support for SMP
        machines.

Stat-Disk
Statistics about individual disk usage including support for up to 4
        disks.

Stat-Intr
Statistics about individual interrupts including support for up to 32
        interrupts.

Uname
The system information from the uname program, hostname and Linux kernel
        version.

Changes
- -------

Since version 3.2:

Now compiles with GTK or Athena Widgets.

GTK version is mostly working, not quite same configurability as Athena.

Since version 3.3:

Minor fixes for kernel version 2.4.x.

Tridia Corporation has an ambitious marketing plan that pits its open
source remote access hybrids head to head with industry leader Symantec.

This is the beginning of a strategic marketing campaign to introduce the
logical benefits of Tridia Corporation's open source hybrids over its
closed source competitors. We are confident that this is the first time
that open source products have so aggressively targeted closed source
competitors.

Three announcements are planned beginning with a FREE TridiaVNC (virtual
network computing) downloads promotion that's linked to a contest.
Called the "pcAnywhere Is Nowhere This FREE Contest" Tridia stakes out
ground that's presently occupied by market leader Symantec. The news
release follows.

Thank you for the opportunity to introduce this news item. I look
forward to discussing it in more detail. DK

Tridia Corporation Launches “pcAnywhere Is Nowhere Near This Free”
Contest
Contest Offers Grand Prizes To Promote the FREE Download Of TridiaVNC
The First Commercially Supported Open Source Remote Control Software

ATLANTA—MAY 23, 2001—Tridia Corporation, a global provider of eSupport
tools that empower remote system administration today announced its
“pcAnywhere Is Nowhere Near This Free” contest. The contest offers grand
prizes to promote the FREE download of TridiaVNC, the first commercially
supported, open source remote control software. Tridia’s “pcAnywhere Is
Nowhere Near This Free” promotion is a stake in the ground to illustrate
how its commercially supported, open source remote control products are
a logical choice over the high cost and like features of market leader’s
pcAnywhere remote control product.

Contestants participate by providing two e-mail addresses of IT
professionals at www.tridiavnc.com/econtest1 that might have interest in
TridiaVNC or actively use high cost, commercial, remote control products
like pcAnywhere. Participants will have a chance to win one of five Palm
Pilot m505s valued at $450 each during the first 60 days of the contest.
120 days into the contest, 3 Panasonic handheld DVD players valued at
$1,000 each will be awarded. A Sony VAIO 170FX laptop grand prize valued
at $2,500 will be awarded 180 days from the start of the contest.
Winning contestants from each prize category will be drawn at random by
“Remo”, Tridia’s recently named remote control alien ambassador.

“Contests are a perfect reward mechanism for the growing number of IT
professionals that endorse and recommend the use of commercially
supported open source products for remote eSupport,” says Vince Frese,
chief executive officer at Tridia Corporation. “We’ve had more than
30,000 downloads of TridiaVNC since it was first launched. It’s clear
that this is only the tip of an iceberg. Its downloads continue to
escalate as word spreads about the reliability and value of TridiaVNC.
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see how logical a FREE, fully
supported remote control product is when its compared to commercial
offerings with high license fees.”

Unlike closed source, remote control products, TridiaVNC provides
cross-platform support and functionality from a single open source
product. This open source model gives users the freedom to customize,
integrate and enhance TridiaVNC to meet their specific needs. Its small
footprint is another advantage. The Win32 viewer is about 184K in size.
In addition, VNC uses minimal resources when not in use. And, since
TridiaVNC requires no license fee, it is a cost effective choice for
company-wide deployment.

About Tridia Corporation

Tridia Corporation has long been a leading developer of Unix-based
eSupport technologies. Tridia brings this experience to the Open Source
and Microsoft Windows communities where it provides value priced
eSupport solutions that empower remote system administration for live
support, collaboration, and training. Founded in 1987, Tridia
Corporation is a privately owned, Atlanta-based software development
company.

Internet Exchange Messaging Server 5
Offers cc:Mail Users Worry-Free Migration

With the impending demise of cc:Mail, most users have started to look
seriously for a more suitable replacement for the soon-to-be orphaned
system. Software developer International Messaging Associates (IMA), offers
a timely and relevant solution for this dilemma.

IMA's latest offering, the Internet Exchange Messaging Server (IEMS) 5, has
migration tools that offer cc:Mail users easy and trouble-free migration to
an Internet-based environment -- the cc:Mail Address Book and Mailbox
converters. The cc:Mail Address Book converter allows the user addresses
from the cc:Mail address book to be translated to a format supported by the
IEMS 5 LDAP-based Directory Server. Meanwhile, IEMS5's cc:Mail connectors
converts cc:Mail mailboxes into the format that can be recognized by the
IEMS 5 Message Store.

Through this process, system administrators can now conveniently enter the
needed information while easily directing the steps of migration. This can
be done online with minimal disruption to the users. A wide variety of
information including messages, attachments, folders, distribution lists,
archives and bulletin boards, address books and directories can be migrated
seamlessly. In addition, IEMS 5's logging facilities allow system
administrators to track which users have been moved to the new system,
giving full control over the entire migration process.

With the migration to the IEMS 5's Message Store, users can conveniently
access their mailboxes via POP3- and/or IMAP4-capable clients such as
Outlook Express, Eudora, Pegasus, Netscape, among others. Their e-mail can
also be accessed remotely using any web browser via IEMS 5's Web Mail
Client.
While in migration, cc:Mail users are given convenience to continue the use
of their own cc:Mail client to send and receive Internet messages. This is
made possible through the cc:Mail connectors. Thus, IEMS 5 provides the
users with ample time to migrate comfortably into their new system.

IEMS 5's 24x7 technical support assures users continuous technical
assistance through the migration process. Running on both the Linux and
Windows platforms, IEMS 5 also supports a distributed messaging environment.
This feature allows each software component to be run on different machines.
This efficiently distributes computing capacity and resources, resulting to
faster and more flexible processing of required task. Other significant
features include virus scanning, spam control and distribution list
management. All these make IEMS 5 the choice solution for cc:Mail emigrants.
