Subject: OpenScheme 1.3.7 released
Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 23:07:14 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Erian Concept is glad to announce OpenScheme 1.3.7

SITE:
http://www.open-scheme.com

NEWS:
- - Bug fix release
- - Very first release of the OpenScheme WEB Server

REGISTRATION
OpenScheme does not now require a license number to run. Therefore,
registration is required to obtain a free support.

WHAT IS OPEN-SCHEME ?
OpenScheme is a Scheme interpreter/compiler/debugger conform to the
R5RS standard (only scheme-report-environment, null-environment are
not supported)

It is available for Intel PC with Linux, BeOS [(r) Be, Inc], FreeBSD,
Solaris, or Windows [(R) Microsoft]. Since the user sees the same API
interface, cross-development is easy and immediate.

OpenScheme integrates a lot of interesting features, such as a regular
expression parser, object oriented system, CLOS based, console Object
Oriented interface, an standardized Operating System access, a
preemptive timer library that is thread compatible.

A low-level set of primitives and a OO graphical library are now
available. The OO graphical library is entirely written in Scheme. It
provides all the common Widgets.

OpenScheme is open to the net: A NET plugin provides all the necessary
functions to access to the net, such as Sockets, Crypt, Encode, Mail,
CGI, ...

A fully relational database engine is also provided in the
professional edition. It allows to handle any number of files, large
objects, objects with variable size, files larger than 4Go.

OpenScheme includes an interpreter that performs on-flow compilation
and a compiler that produces pure ANSI C. It also includes a command
line symbolic debugger.

OpenScheme allows to put in the same source file high level Object
Oriented code, standard Scheme, C and assembly (that breaks
portability). This feature provides an impressive power to the
development environment.

Therefore, OpenScheme does not have yet an integrated graphical user
interface. This is planned.

OpenScheme is commercially supported by:

        Erian Concept
Le Stella, 155 bd de la Madeleine
        06000 - Nice - FRANCE
        Phone: +33 493 441 806
        Fax : +33 493 441 806
        WEB : www.erian-concept.com
        email: osm.support@erian-concept.com

OpenScheme is distributed in four editions:

- -Free WEB edition: fully functional interpreter version, with plain
HTML documentation. This version does not include the development
kit. It can be freely distributed (distributor may request a special
license number).

- -Standard edition: This version allows to have profits and to sold all
derivated products, royalties free. A technical support is provided by
Erian Concept.

- -Professional edition: This edition includes the paper manuals, the
OSD database engine. OSD is a native relational database kernel with
an unlimited number of simultaneously opened tables, wide files
(>4Go), variable length fields, b+tree indexes, memory tables, etc.
In addition, free updates for the next three minor and major releases
of OpenScheme.

Our sponsors are NetUltra (www.netultra.com), Iverson Softwares
(www.iversonsoftware.com) and Linux Magazine (www.linuxmag.fr) and
Tornado Technology, Inc (http://www.3dtwister-aec.com).

From: Kai Vehmanen <k@eca.cx>
Subject: ecasound 2.0.0 released!
Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 23:12:25 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

1. A short summary of changes

New disk subsystem optimized for streaming under high system load,
ECI - a new library interface with implementations in C++, C and
Python, a redesigned MIDI-subsystem, support for ALSA 0.9.x, 32bit
OSS-devices, effect preset improvements, and the usual set of bug
fixes.

2. What is ecasound?

Ecasound is a software package designed for multitrack audio
processing. It can be used for simple tasks like audio playback,
recording and format conversions, as well as for multitrack effect
processing, mixing, recording and signal recycling. Ecasound supports
a wide range of audio inputs, outputs and effect algorithms.
Effects and audio objects can be combined in various ways, and their
parameters can be controlled by operator objects like oscillators
and MIDI-CCs. As most functionality is located in shared libraries,
creating alternative user-interfaces is easy. A versatile console mode
interface is included in the package.

3. Changes since last release

* Features a new disk i/o buffering system that makes drop-out
free audio streaming possible even under high system loads.
For even more reliable operation, enabling realtime scheduling
and using a low-latency optimized kernel is recommended.
* This is the first stable release to include ECI, a library
interface aimed at scripting, developing ecasound frontends,
alternative user-interfaces and similar uses based around
libecasound functionality. ECI is well defined and documented,
and is easily portable to new languages. Implementations are
provided for C, C++ and Python.
* A complete redesign of the MIDI-subsystem. New features
include support for multiple MIDI-devices, sending MIDI
  start/stop/continue and MMC messages.
* New audio object types: ALSA 0.9.x, 32bit OSS devices,
Ogg Vorbis and MIDI (using Timidity++).
* New chain operators: pulse gate, LADSPA based metronome,
  tremolo and audio stamps.
* New controller types: generic oscillator, amplitude-to-control
  gate and generic linear envelope.
* Support for parametrized effect presets. This feature makes
ecasound's preset system a very powerful tool for sound processing.
* New utilities: ecasignalview, a ncurses-based app for monitoring
  signal levels.

Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 23:10:33 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

MIMEDefang is a MIME mail scanner designed to run on Linux or UNIX
systems, and intended mainly to protect Windows e-mail clients from
mail-borne viruses. It can, however, be used for many other purposes,
such as restricting access to certain e-mail addresses to specific mail
relays, diverting large attachments to a Web server instead of keeping
them in the message, and so on. MIMEDefang requires Sendmail 8.11.

MIMEDefang is available from:

        http://www.roaringpenguin.com/mimedefang

and is released under the GNU General Public License.

Changes since the last announcement on this newsgroup:

o Ability to limit the number of concurrent running filters

o Support for NAI and HBDEV virus scanners

o Ability to add headers to e-mail messages

o Support for ORBS and MAPS-style real-time blacklists

Subject: ferm-1.0 stable released - for easy (firewall) rules making
Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 23:09:15 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi,

I would like to draw your attention to ferm-1.0, after a couple of months
circulating as development release it has moved to stable!

Description:

ferm is a tool to maintain and setup complicated firewall rules. It allows
one to reduce the tedious task of carefully inserting rules and chains,
thus enabling the firewall administrator to spend more time on developing
good rules, and less time on the proper implementation of those rules.
These rules will be executed by the preferred kernel interface, such as
ipchains and iptables, and in one pass. Firewall rules can also be split
into different files and loaded at will.

Changes: Fixes for iptables addr/port combination errors, removed
'reverse' for iptables, new filter and NAT cleaning for the clearall
option, a major update on chain-administration in iptables, and moving to
stable release and version numbers.

Date: Fri, 4 May 2001 23:11:13 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

You can now get xtrs version 4.5, a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I/III/4/4P
emulator for Unix and the X Window System, from my TRS-80 Web pages:

  http://www.tim-mann.org/xtrs.html

Version 4.5 adds emulation of the remaining undocumented Z-80 instructions,
along with several other small improvements. See the included ChangeLog
for details. This may be the final version, since I'm running out of
ideas (and documentation) for TRS-80 peripherals to emulate.

General xtrs blurb:

xtrs is a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I/III/4/4P emulator for Unix and the
X Window System. It includes lower case, the real time clock, hi-res
graphics, serial port, parallel printer, mouse, cassette, sound and music
output (requires OSS), 5" and 8" floppy disk drives in single and double
density, and even hard disk drives. The emulated floppy and hard disk
file formats are compatible with the popular MSDOS-based emulators by
Jeff Vavasour, Matthew Reed, and David Keil, and (if you choose a capable
enough file format), all features of the original TRS-80 floppy disk
controller are emulated. Under Linux, physical floppy disk drives are
also supported. Physical cassettes can be read and written too. The
user interface is a bit spartan, but it gets the job done.

on most UNIX platforms, including Linux! Some of its features include:

- - Tck/Tk programming interface
- - Portable database format
- - Easy to use, you can have a DB application completely up and
running in about 5 minutes, using nxqddb.
- - CGI interface for quick and easy online databases/guestbooks/etc...
- - Fast, and powerful searching capability
- - Report generator
- - Barcharts and graphs
- - Mass mailings with Email, letters and/or postcards
- - Lots of prepackaged applications are available
- - Much, much more...

Qddb is a database suite that allows you to create relations,
add tuples, modify tuples, delete tuples, and search for tuples
in a fast and very flexible way. Qddb revolves around the
idea of a "tuple tree," where tuples are stored and manipulated
in an intuitive, pre-joined way.

Qddb supports the following search techniques: regular expressions,
words and word ranges, numbers and numeric ranges, and dates and date
ranges. Approximate matching is coming soon. Qddb 2.0.0 can use Tcl as
its configuration language, so you can build custom interfaces to your
Qddb databases with it. We provide a reasonably nice generic interface
so you can be up and running quickly.
