especially for target applications in handheld, wireless, consumer,
networking and telematics systems.

With the combination of Hitachi's processors and MontaVista Hard Hat Linux,
and associated development tools, the companies provide embedded systems
designers with the necessary elements to speed high-performance embedded
solutions to market.

"Embedded Linux is a very important OS for our SuperH deployment program.
MontaVista has a solid reputation within the embedded-Linux community for
providing innovative software solutions and superior technical expertise,"
said Tadahiko Sugawara, manager, Embedded System Solution Dept.,
Semiconductor & Integrated Circuits Group at Hitachi Ltd. "We will work
together to support the growing class of embedded-Linux designers.”

"Our alliance with Hitachi is further proof of the acceptance of Hard Hat
Linux for embedded applications,” added Hitoshi Arima, Japan country
manager, MontaVista Software. “Now, Hitachi SuperH-based embedded designs,
in Japan and worldwide, can benefit from the scalability, robustness and
openness of Hard Hat Linux."

MontaVista Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Professional Edition (see accompanying
release) targets the Hitachi SH-3 and SH-4 processors with a comprehensive
tool set of compilers, debuggers, configuration utilities, and the Hard Hat
Linux kernel for Super Hitachi CPUs, and supports the Hitachi Solution
Engine 7709A (SH-3) and 7751 (SH-4) reference platforms out of the box.
The Hitachi SH series joins four other microprocessor architectures to give
MontaVista unrivaled CPU breadth and depth for embedded Linux development
solutions.

Availability
Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Professional Edition is available direct from MontaVista
and MontaVista distribution channels worldwide as a product subscription,
providing the MontaVista Hard Hat Linux kernel, utilities, development tools
and one year of technical support. It is open source, royalty-free, and
built from 100 percent pure Linux sources.

Also available for Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Professional Edition are expanded
add-on capabilities, including packages for embedded Java,
High-Availability, legacy RTOS porting and emulation, and embedded GUI
development.

MontaVista will also make the Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Journeyman Edition freely
available for technical evaluation and other uses. A subset of Hard Hat
Linux Professional Edition, it targets a sampling from all Hard Hat Linux
CPU architectures and hosts on Red Hat Linux. It can be downloaded from
MontaVista’s Web site or obtained on CD-ROM for a nominal charge.

Hard Hat Linux 2.0 Professional Edition will be available the last week of
April 2001, and will be joined by additional functionality and add-on

Subject: COMMERCIAL: epcEdit 1.0 XML/SGML editor released
Date: Wed, 11 Apr 2001 18:08:39 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

After almost one year of public beta-testing, the final version of
epcEdit 1.0 has been released.

epcEdit is a fully featured, cross platform XML/SGML editor
application based on the powerful TkSGML toolkit.

epcEdit provides a structure-sensitive view of XML or SGML documents
and allows editing of a document while keeping it in conformance with
the document's DTD. An integrated table editor helps in visualizing
the layout of tables conforming to the CALS or HTML table models. The
hierarchical structure of a document is represented by a tree view
that is updated while the document changes.

epcEdit contains an enhanced validating XML/SGML parser with full support
of SGML-Open catalog files. The ability to perform a complete
validation on demand simplifies the maintenance of XML and SGML
documents and allows for easy detection of potential problems, even in
invalid or incomplete documents.

epcEdit's unique railroad diagrams support the user in understanding
the intended structure of unknown or rarely used DTD
constructs. epcEdit focuses on providing the user with information
about the document, the allowed content of XML/SGML elements, their
attributes, and their content model as defined by the underlying
DTD. By constructing a temporary DTD on the fly, epcEdit enforces
consistent use of elements and attributes even for DTDless
XML documents.

epcEdit's powerful attribute editor supports conformance checking of
attribute values and has special support for ID and IDREF attributes.
Together with the ability to verify and enumerate the usage of IDs and
IDREFs in a document, documents with references to undefined IDs can
easily become a thing of the past.

Download a free, time-restricted evaluation copy of epcEdit for
Windows, Linux or Solaris from:
