instant access to all source files, setting/clearing breakpoints while the
program is running, watching variables change as you step through code,
instant access to all stack frames, and a command line window that provides
full access to the underlying gdb debugger. Beta release 1 of version
1.1.0 incorporates these exciting new features:
* Configurable menu of gdb commands
* Configurable button toolbars
* Functions menu in source windows, as in Code Crusader
* Share all relevant preferences from Code Crusader
Both programs also provide the following enhancements:
* On-line help is now searchable.

Subject: Compaq Fortran for Linux Alpha - Beta test 1.1 and 1.0-2 update
Date: Sun, 28 Jan 2001 16:02:04 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Compaq Computer Corporation announces a free public beta test of Compaq
Fortran 1.1 for Linux Alpha Systems, as well as version 1.0-2, a free
downloadable update of the current version 1.0.
Compaq Fortran 1.1 incorporates the latest generation of Compaq's exclusive
GEM optimization technology for improved run-time performance, plus new
features and corrections to reported problems. Update 1.0-2 includes new
features and corrections to reported problems.
New features in both 1.0-2 and 1.1 include:
- - Unformatted records may now be up to 2**63-1 bytes in lengths. Records
shorter than 2**31 bytes are written using the previous method, using a
32-bit length, and longer records are written in segments.
- - The utilities fsplit, fpr and fpp are now provided, as they are on Tru64
UNIX.
- - New -assume noprotect_constants switch specifies that writeable copies of
constants are to be passed as actual arguments. The default is that
constants are in read-only storage and cannot be modified.
- - Elimination of most unnecessary array copies during routine calls.
- - Support of the !DEC$ PSECT NOWRT directive
- - Significantly improved compile-time performance when very large MODULEs
are used
- - General run-time performance improvements
Compaq Fortran 1.1 has been tested on RedHat 6.0 and 6.2 and SuSE 6.1, 6.4
and 7.0, Debian 2.1 and TurboLinux 6.0 Note that version 1.1 does not
support RedHat 5.2.
Compaq Fortran 1.0-2 has been tested on the above distributions plus RedHat
5.2.
If you wish to beta test Compaq Fortran 1.1, fill out the registration form
at http://www.compaq.com/fortran/linux/beta-register.html The registration
form includes a license agreement which must be agreed to in order to
download or use the software. The beta test version of the compiler will
"time-out" in July 2001.
If you have Compaq Fortran 1.0 for Linux Alpha and want to download the
1.0-2 update, go to http://www.compaq.com/fortran/linux/te-download_.html

Subject: Zile 1.4 - Zile Is Lossy Emacs (Emacs clone)
Date: Sun, 28 Jan 2001 16:07:34 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Zile is another Emacs-clone. Zile is a customizable, self-documenting
real-time display editor. Zile was written to be similar as possible to
Emacs; every Emacs user should feel at home with Zile.
Zile features:
- Small but fast and powerful. It is very useful for footprint
installations (like on floppy disk) or quick editing sessions.
- 8-bit clean. Zile can operate with binary files.
- Looks like Emacs. Most Zile key sequences and function names
are identical to Emacs ones.
- Multi buffer editing w/multi level undo. Zile can open an
infinite number of files and can record an infinite sequence of
undo operations.
- Multi window. Zile can display multiple windows on the screen.
- Killing, yanking and registers. The typical killing, yanking and
register features of Emacs are available under Zile.
- Minibuffer completion. Zile can complete the user written text.
This is very useful for `M-x' commands and for selecting files.
- Colors. Zile makes use of the color capatibilities of the
terminal if available.
- Source highlighting ("C" and "C++" only for now). Zile can
highlight the "C" and "C++" source files for better reading.
- Auto fill. Zile automatically breaks the lines when they become
too wide (if the Auto Fill Mode is enabled).
Latest version can be found at the address:
http://web.tiscalinet.it/ssigala/sandro
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
NEWS:
Changes between Zile 1.3 - Zile 1.4
* Added support for `F1'..`F12' keys.
* Implemented the following functions:
tabify
untabify
copy-region-as-kill (bound to `M-w')
* Added support for xterm resizing (SIGWINCH signal).
* Added `text-mode-auto-fill' variable that automatically turns on the
Auto Fill Mode in Text Mode.
* Now `set-variable' suggests the possibile variable values.
* Added `-f function' command line option for calling internal functions
at Zile startup.
* Bug fixes.

* chkar: Add "make check" test case for argp.
* autoproject.1: In documentation of -L, use "DIR" in all three
places. Minor wording and emphasis fixes.
autoproject may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mv.com/ipusers/vanzandt/
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/devel
from README:
autoproject - create a skeleton source package for a new program
autoproject interviews the user, then creates a source package for a
new program which follows the GNU programming standards. The new
package uses autoconf to configure itself, and automake to create the
Makefile. `make distcheck' succeeds.
The idea is that you execute autoproject just once when you start a
new project. It will ask a few questions, then create a new directory
and populate it with standard files, customized for the new project.
The version number for the new program is initialized as 0.1.0, and is
set in configure.in. It is available in C programs as the macro
VERSION, and in the Makefile as $(VERSION).
Optionally, the new package will use an external command line parser
or a parser generator. Currently, autoproject supports:
argp by Miles Bader, included in GNU C Library 2.1
clig by Harald Kirsch <kir@iitb.fhg.de>

I would like to support graphical user interface (GUI) as well as
command line interface (CLI) programs, but I have very little
experience with them. Contributions would be welcome.

Japanese WordMage is a complete Japanese productivity package for MacOS, Windows
95/98/NT/2000 and Linux
which does not require any Japanese operating system software to run (it
contains its own Kanji fonts, Japanese input
system, etc). It received a 5-star rating from reviewers on both ZDNet and
Tucows, two of the biggest and most
well-respected software download sites on the Internet. It also received a
'Recommended' rating from AccessEd in
Australia (the software review division of the Queensland Department of
Education).
Japanese WordMage includes nine highly integrated functions:
* a Japanese wordprocessor
* a multilingual HTML web page editor / viewer
* various study systems (with authoring):
- interactive storybooks
- auto-revision flashcards
- 'Kanji Safari' multiplayer game
- reading, aural and visual comprehension
* a powerful Kanji reference dictionary
* a grammar library builder
* a text translation aid
Please visit http://www.lavasoft.com/productinfo.html for further information.
We are currently running a fantastic download discount offer which makes the
Japanese WordMage (Standard Edition)
download price only USD59.00! This is incredible value for such a full-featured
package and great for budget-conscious
students. All the usual benefits are included such as unlimited free Internet
upgrades, 30 days of email support, access
to all platform versions, access to new extensions, etc.
The Classroom Edition of Japanese WordMage is suitable for educational
institutions and starts at US$199 for a
5-machine licence (10, 20, 40 and 80-machine license packs are also available).
A major extra benefit of Japanese
WordMage is that we include access to free program upgrades and extensions via
Internet download in the price - this
means your school only needs to buy Japanese WordMage once, yet can enjoy
continued access to the latest versions
of software and resources! This a fabulous way to get the absolute best value
from your school budget. In addition, you
get one full year of premium email support bundled with each Classroom Edition
pack.
