lookat - bekijk 1.2
lookat (or bekijk in the Dutch version) is a ncurses based file, STDIN viewer.
It can be used as manual page viewer and supports colored manual pages
lookat is successor of "see" and has the following improvements:
- the name is changed to "lookat" instead of "see" since the name "see" is
already used in Debian GNU/Linux 2.X
- cursor support
- configuration files
- types
- BUGFIX: if you try to open .tgz or .gz that contain faults or
aren't gzip/tar files see 1.1 will crash with a segmentation fault
- BUGFIX: pulldown menus weren't always correctly updated in see 1.1
- BUGFIX: memory leaks
lookat is available at
http://www.digibel.org/~staf/topic.php.lang=eng&top=lookat
debian packages are available at http://www.digibel.org/~staf/debian

Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 15:37:29 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
http://www.tummy.com/krud/
While the 7.0 release of Redhat has gotten some bad press, our testing
has shown that this is by far the best *.0 release to date. It was
nearly 6 months before Redhat 6.1 was in a state that we felt we could
update KRUD to use it.
We're happy to announce the November release of KRUD 7.0. It's so big,
it's now on two CDs.
Highlights:
OpenSSH, mod_ssl, PHP-4.0.3, MySQL, Postgres, LDAP integration,
Amanda, all the latest errata, QMail SRPMs, wireless ethernet tools
piranha, OpenSSH, OpenSSL, OpenLDAP, aalib, bladeenc,
many CD burning-related tools, dnscache, FreeCIV, Gnapster, Grip,
GPW, jpilot, junkbuster, lftp, parted, rebootonpanic,
SSLWrap, Sudo, Unclutter, vacation, VNC, XEmacs
Visit http://www.tummy.com/krud/packages/ for a detailed list of
all packages on KRUD.
Every month Kevin merges in the latest and greatest errata into a standard
RedHat distribution (currently version 7.0). To fill the remaining space
on the CD, he adds a huge number of Extra packages (currently nearly
100 updated/extra packages).
What ever will you do with the time you save not having to find, download,
and apply the latest errata to your newly-installed system? Well, it *IS*
July, I would vote for the pool. ;-) A full list of packages is available at
http://www.tummy.com/krud/packages/
CD-ROMs available for $7US (includes domestic shipping and handling)
or a years subscription for $65US. Also available for international
orders (for an additional shipping fee).
For more information or to order: http://www.tummy.com/krud/

Subject: Linux driver for DC10plus/LML33/Buz video capture cards V 0.7
Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 15:47:08 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
November 20, 2000.
Thanks to Wolfgang Scherr, who was the first maintainer of this driver,
we now have support for Iomega Buz cards again. There are no changes for
current DC10plus and LML33 cards users (besides that dc10.[ch] files
have been renamed to zoran.[ch]), however I would like to ask them
together with owners of Iomega Buz cards to download and try this
driver. Please, read file README from this distribution before driver
compilation and installation.
The driver is Video4Linux compliant and contains extensions to provide
a full motion MJPEG compression and decompression in hardware using
Zoran chipset features. Since this driver initially was a derivative
from the driver for Buz Iomega cards written by Dr. Rainer Johanni,
http://www.johanni.de/munich-vision/buz/, they both have compatible
API. I hope that this API will become a part of V4L standard.
Since version 0.5 the driver compiles and works with 2.2.x and 2.4.x
kernels. (I used 2.2.14, 2.2.16 and 2.4.0-test6 kernels for testing).
Please, be aware that some Linux distributors supply modified kernels
with their distributions and with such kernels the driver compilation
may fail. Unfortunately, I don't have time and other resources to keep
the driver compatible with every Linux distribution, therefore, only
official Linux kernels from www.kernel.org and its mirrors will be
supported.
To download the driver and for other news and updates, please, visit
http://www.cicese.mx/~mirsev/Linux/DC10plus/
Supported Formats
=================
Card: DC10/DC10plus LML33/Buz
TV standard: NTSC/PAL/SECAM NTSC/PAL
Format: Square pixel CCIR.601
640x480 NTSC 720x480 NTSC
768x576 PAL/SECAM 720x576 PAL
Frame rates: 30 frames/60 fields per second NTSC
25 frames/50 fields per second PAL/SECAM
The driver can be used by two programs at the same time. Using XawTV
you can watch what you are recording or playing back with lavtools.
(please, see warning note in README file supplied with the driver
distribution regarding this feature).
Good luck.

Announcing release 3.0 of Poppy. Poppy is a simple perl script to
view each header of your mail from a POP3 or IMAP server. You can
then chose to read, delete, save, or reply to the message.
This offloads most of the work on to the mail server itself.
It is most useful for "limited resources environments" whether that
is low disk space, slow internet connection, or no graphical
environment.
It is also useful for repairing server mailbox by deleting emails
that are to large to download reliably or perform quick checks on
new email accounts.
New in this release is the ability to reply to a message using
an SMTP server.
It may be download from:

Subject: Xquote 2.2 - stock ticker
Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 15:50:14 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Nov 19, 2000
Announcing the release of Xquote 2.2. This release contains
enhancements that allow logging of stock ticker quotes to a file in two
different formats.
One can choose Xinvest format so that quotes may be appended to Xinvest
account files, or a semicolon separated list format (comma separation
was not used as many quotes contain commas as 1000's or decimal
indicators).
Xquote is now uses Open Motif as the source of statically linked
libraries. Xquote can be built with Open Motif (available at
http://www.motifzone.net/download/) or with LessTif
(http://www.lesstif.org/).
See the ChangeLog file for what's new. See the TODO file for what's
coming up.
Check out the Xinvest home page at http://sunsite.dk/xinvest/. Here
you can find the latest source and Linux binary along with other helpful
information on using Xquote and Xinvest.

The XPM library -> ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/libraries

Subject: Research survey on cross platform development
Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 15:50:42 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hello, we would like you to help us in a research project studying
cross platform software development.
The purpose of this survey is to find out why most software programs are
not written as cross platform compatible.
Most software is written to run on one specific platform. A platform is
usually a different operating system or computer type. Targeting a program
for a specific platform limits the use of the program and the amount of
users that can access the software. We wish to find out why developers are
constrained to create software in this fashion, limiting use of the
software.
Less used operating systems are now becoming popular and new operating
systems are being developed, therefore, we believe that cross platform
software design needs to become common practice in software development.
We hope to provide solutions to common cross platform design issues or
present reasons why cross platform software design is a useful concept.
The survey can be found at
http://www.wpi.edu/~mongoose/mqp/poll/
Please help out and take the survey!
