Subject: qflib 0.97.1 - free Java library - bugfix release
Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2000 21:46:22 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Quality First Software announces the new release of our free Java
library qflib available from
http://www.qfs.de/en/projects/qflib/index.html
This is primarily a bugfix release.

What is qflib?
==============

One of the key factors in the development of our products is the
reusability of their components. For that reason, many parts have been
separated into a library which has grown into a project of its own
under the name of qflib.

Packages include:
  - elaborate logging system with tool support
  - configuration management for user settings
  - lots of GUI stuff, especially a JTable extension that supports
    sorting and filtering with only a few lines of code
  - a collection of miscellaneous utilities, e.g. a command line
    parser, a thread pool, an extension to ResourceBundle and many
    more

Apart from the source code, complete Javadoc API documentation is
available as well as introductory documentation and examples in
English and German.

New features:
=============

- - A TextOptionEdit now has an optional scroll pane.
- - The updateUI method was added to SortedTableHelper. It must be called
  when the sorted table's UI changes in order to get a proper header
  renderer for the new UI.

Bugs fixed:
===========

- - Saving the selection of a sorted table could miss one row in some
  cases.
- - Better handling of the initial and restored divider settings of a
  MultiPane and a JSplitPaneConfigWrapper.
- - The DynamicClassLoader was leaking open InputStreams. Thanks to
  Florian Rodler for fixing it.
- - Support for XEmacs menus in qflib.el was there but didn't get activated.

Subject: LPU 0.9-24 - The Label Printing Utiliy (update)
Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2000 21:47:08 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

This is to announce version 0.9-24 of LPU, the Label Printing Utility.

LPU is a tool for creating labels and forms of any kind from a textual
description. For a maximum of flexibility, output is created in the
Adobe Postscript(TM) format.

It is written in plain C, so it should build and run on most flavors
of UNIX and (with a minimum of changes) many other systems.

The main new features compared to 0.9-22, the last official release,
are support for the inclusion of EPS files, and - some of you may
have waited for that - an English manual ;-).

For further information and to download the latest version, please
visit the LPU home page at

    http://home.mainz-online.de/~jschrade/lpu.html

Have fun!

News of Interest to Open Source Developers:
SourceGear Releases Open Source Toolkit for Community Portals
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------

SourceGear Corporation has released version 0.3.0 of its Open Source
software toolkit for creating community portals, codenamed "lloop". The
latest release of the project includes, among other features, more extensive
support for WML, the markup language used by WAP phones and other wireless
devices.
"lloop" consists of a server platform and a collection of ready-for-use
ASP-like scripts that produce dynamic content for display on a variety of
devices, such as desktop PC's, WAP Phones, and the Palm VII handheld. The
entire project is based upon Open Source technology and is licensed under
the GNU Public License.
Organizations in need of an information portal with wireless access can
download lloop free of charge and quickly install the framework to launch
their own portal. In addition, lloop can be easily customized for each
organization's own look and feel. The portal supports many popular
relational database engines, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and InterBase and
works in conjunction with the Apache web server.
For more information, visit the lloop website at http://www.lloop.com.
The latest release of lloop can be downloaded at:

Subject: Acv 0.1 - Asynchronous copy and verify
Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2000 21:56:50 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

ACV - ASYNCHRONOUS COPY AND VERIFY
- ---   ----------------------------

ACV is a utility intended for use when copying data where there is
a mismatch between the rate at which the source can provide data
and the rate at which the consumer can swallow it, such that this
has a significant performance affect.

A typical example is tar-ing and gzip-ing to a streaming tape
drive on a machine where the tape drive can swallow data much
faster than the machine can execute tar/gzip. In this situation,
the tape will have to stop and rewind regularly.

ACV copies data via a large internal buffer. It is always prepared
to read, provided that there is free space in the buffer. However,
it does not start writing until the amount of data in the buffer
reaches a set level. It will then write data continuously until
the buffer is emptied (and will continue to read in the meantime).

In addition, provided that the output is not standard output,
acv can re-read the output, and compare checksums, to verify that
the data was correcly written. It uses the same algorithm as the
sum command, and can handle the situation where the output does
not preserve exact file lengths.

Title:          acv
Version:        0.1
Entered-date:   07-Dec-98
Description: Acv is a data copying program intended to enhance
                performance when there is a mismatch in the rate
                at which a produced provider data, and a consumer
                can swallow it (for instance, tar-ing and gzip-ing
                to a fast streaming tape drive). acv can also
                re-read and verify the written data.
