Subject: New File Partitioner - fpart
Date: Sat, 5 Aug 2000 21:18:53 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hi, August 2, 2000
This is a file partitioner program. It lets you split a file
into pieces and combine pieces back into 1. It was rated a top
10 shareware program in a Japanese OS/2 magazine.
This program was originally written for OS/2. I brought it
with me to Linux a little while ago but have not had time to
continue with it yet. I thought I would put it out there
for people to look at and see what they think.
A few options do not work yet as I did not figure out how to
do them in Linux yet, like -p for prompt (it does not wait for
an answer to the question if I remember correctly).
Let me know what you think. Let me know how you find it useful,
i.e. what you use it for.
Where to get it:
http://members.home.net/stantowianski/
Stan.
Examples of how to use it:
To Split a file:
==================
cd /usr/lib/netscape
use the netscape-communicator for example
Giving a filename:
fpart -s -from netscape-communicator -to xx
Using stdin (-from -):
cat netscape-communicator | fpart -s -from - -to xx
These create files: xx.0 thru xx.9
To Combine files:
==================
fpart -c -from xx -to ss
You can diff netscape-communicator ss
and they should be the same.

Subject: COMMERCIAL: Extensys - Linux based communications application development platform
Date: Sat, 5 Aug 2000 21:12:04 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
On behalf of TelcoSoft, I am pleased to announce the availability of
our flagship product ** Extensys ** for the Linux x86 operating system.
Extensys is a powerful and complete environment for developing and
deploying production-grade communications applications in a distributed
environment. Using Extensys, a C++ software developer can develop
complex and robust communications applications at a rapid pace without a
deep understanding of the underlying devices, protocols and practices.
When these applications are deployed, the services provided by these
applications can be accessed by the end-users (or subscribers) either
from a telecommunications network (via phone) or from the service
providers web site. For more information on Extensys, please visit our
web site at:
http://www.telcosoft.com
We want programmers to embrace Extensys for developing communications
applications. Hence we are making the platform freely available to the
developer community. You can download a free version of the software
from our web site to check out its capabilities and to develop
applications using it. We are also developing some reference
applications ourselves which we are making it available for free from
our web site along with the source. Currently, the only application that
is available is an E-mail reader. This application allows subscribers to
listen to their e-mail messages over the phone.
We are still in an early stage in the development of Extensys. We have
put most of the telecommunications services in place but we currently
support only a few devices. Also our web access services are at an early
stage of implementation. Remember, this is just the beginning. We will
come up with new releases of this software in quick succession to expand
the basic infrastructure and add new devices and protocols. We were
debating whether to announce the product at this stage of development.
But we decided to go ahead with it anyway since we are excited about the
capabilities of this product and want people to know about it.
The current release is a beta version and still under system test. If
you decide to wait till we release the software for a general release,
please send us an e-mail (info@telcosoft.com) and we will send you a
notification when we are ready with the release. If you are planning to
check out the telecommunications capabilties of the system, you must own
one or more supported voice boards. Please check out our web site for
details. In a future release, we will support virtual devices that
simulate telephony devices without requiring the actual hardware.
Extensys is also currently available for the Unixware operating system
from SCO.
You can contact us at info@telcosoft.com for further information. You
can also contact our marketeers at sales@telcosoft.com.
Thanks.

vmanpg is an svgalib-based pager designed for viewing man pages, which
shows them in much the same way as `xman' (i.e. in a proportional
font, using bold and italic ones to show emphasis). It uses the mono
640x480 mode, and should work on all VGA cards. It supports only a
subset of the keys/commands supported by `less' but all the most
commonly-used ones are available. It comes with a wrapper script
`vman' which is what you'd normally run for the actual man page
viewing.
vmanpg's homepage is here:
http://www.svgalib.org/rus/vmanpg/
You can also download it from Metalab:
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/apps/doctools/man/vmanpg-1.1.tar.gz
There's only really one addition in 1.1 - you can now invert the
screen, giving a white-on-black display suitable for console junkies
and other nocturnal forms of life. :-) The VMANPG environment variable
also supports this setting, so it can easily be made the default if
you prefer it.
Here's the LSM entry:
